    Hi all, I did this a couple of days ago now and for me it made a huge difference. I was shuddering and bunny hopping like a beginner in a manual when it was cold.
    I have owned the beast for 6 months and the only thing I didn't like (well besides fuel consumption) was the shift.
    A couple of people told me the shift was not as bad as I was saying, and now after the reset I see what they mean!
    So thanks mate, awesome tip! :)

      You may have discovered this by now but in case you haven't... Always let the S85 go through its start up cycle before engaging a gear and moving off. Engine sounds rough from cold, and revs over 1,000 rpm slowly reducing and exhaust note changes becoming quieter. When it settles around 600 rpm you are good to go.
      If you pull away before it has completed this start up cycle it will be jerky and you may be damaging the engine.
      You want all the oil in the right places before you load up. You want your engine hot before you go anywhere near the variable rev limit.
      Hope this helps.

    • @DJizz82
      @DJizz82 6 лет назад

      Interesting, it makes sense. I have also noticed that when the car is "on" and on an incline or decline, while driving or at a stand still; it sometimes jumps from D2 to D1.

    • @b12khx89
      @b12khx89 5 лет назад

      This is because you've got the car at the lowest gearbox setting.... Its assuming you're just taking it easy so no need for quick starts so tries to give you a smoother comfortable ride.... The car will detect inclines and declines and drop to D1 for better pull off without extra clutch slip
      Sometimes the gearbox does behave like a spastic and either drops and then changes its mind and makes you look like a dweeb pulling off

  • @ArthurJGibson
    @ArthurJGibson 4 года назад

    Pretty sure this is how to reset the rear differential, which is something you should do when you change tyres. In order to reset the SMG transmission you need the BMW software and a way of connecting it to your computer, you then run through the 'clutch change' steps and it will recalibrate the actuators and clutch slip point.
    If you haven't done a video on this, I'd like to see that.

      @b12khx89 5 лет назад

      It's a quick reset like when you change a tire or adjust pressures you can set this on the setting on your infotainment system... Its basically the driving version.... The static ones easier on your clutch
      The system then learns how you drive and picks up all the parameters of the sensors

      Never seen a 530 with SMG. There are quite a few 650i and 645i with SMG as they pushed those at the dealers. I have seen a 550i with SMG. But frankly I think that was all a BMW marketing. The S85 revs to 8200 and drinks when it get there. SMG was developed to max the 0-60 times and also to get into high gears early in D to save fuel.
      In rush hour traffic the car feels awkward. I liken it to holding red meat in front of a wild tiger and saying easy kitty.

    My 08 m5 got stuck in 1st gear after it died and I can't put it in neutral or reverse. So I can't start the car. Any idea how to reset it or how to fix it?

      Any idea why it died ? Did you get a code or lights before that ?

      It's probably your slave cylinder on your gearbox for your clutch... It will throw up a clutch position sensor issue and won't normally let you start the engine.... Or you can be stuck in gear
      You can't stall the M5... Only if there's a transmission error it cuts out.... Its trying to save you some money
      Cycle the ignition on off and let the pumps whine like normal so it can build some pressure.... Usually won't let you start... Flick the gear stick into N slowly after about 5-10 whines
      If you're lucky it will let you do it.... Don't put it into gear otherwise you're stuck for sure until you top up the system under the car
      If it's stuck in gear you can temporarily fill it but unless it can build pressure it won't let you select neutral.... Fill it and then flick the gear stick left to right slowly... You might be able to get it into N...
      You will have oil on the pan/floor of the car.... Its the same as your steering fluid but the reservoir is on the right side of the gearbox... The opposite side of the gearbox oil cooler under the car

      @@ECPP normally this kind of problem the car might throw a random transmission error but not cut out... It might skip a gear on the odd occasion and drop into neutral..... But after restarting the car everything can be fine for another thousands miles until it completely fails and you're stuck

    FAKE!! It’s not a reset of the gearbox but it’s just the reset of the difference between the front and back wheel’s when you change your tires.

      You're right... The static version using the infotainment system for tire pressures resets what the car has learnt from your driving style and feedback from its sensors on the wheels and diff
