Wow that area does look like europe. Cute geese. Whoa fresh coffee and organic farm fresh breakfast at lakeside. Selva Negra seem so far out there, it's a great find and worth the trip.
It is off the typical foreign tourist trail but certainly worth the trip! We are currently discovering Northern Nicaragua and it is great! The weather is cooler (slightly!) and the coffee here is fantastic!

Hi Henry, there was so much to like about Selva Negra! They really set the benchmark for sustainability in everything they do. The food and coffee was great too!
This is such an awesome place! It is beautiful, we have Nicaragua on our list when we get back to that side of the world so it was great to see such a beautiful place to visit :)
Hi Amanda and Seth, welcome to our channel! Love your RUclips name, we are 'Elder Millenials' as well! We are likely to be in Panama later this year and I saw that you both lived there! Did you know that Panama have launched a digital nomad visa for 18 months? I'd love to pick your brains more when we are in the 'Panama' headspace. Btw, Nicaragua is awesome and perfect for people like us on 'airbnb budgets'.
@@BucketListTravellers Awesome :) We lived in Panama for 18 months then we were in Colombia for 6 months. Then we headed over to Europe and now are in Thailand. That's awesome I had not heard about the digital nomad visa for Panama :) We have been following the ones in the Caribbean for when we eventually get there :)
@@ElderMillennialDigitalNomads Cool! That was our original plan for 2020 too but covid meant that we are still in Nicaragua. I hear covid isn't great right now in Thailand. We hope you are safe and well there.
What a beautiful finca! I have never been there, but my mum has, and she said Selva negra is a relaxing and tranquil sanctuary getaway! I’m So proud to see my fellow Nicas taking care of nature once again- All the organic food produce, (many produced locally) the almost zero wastage of raw materials, like plastics, and food packaging, and the fact that ecotourism is so promoted in these beautiful places not to mention the other beautiful places like: Ometepe 🌋 🌋 and Treecasa!🌲Gracias for showing this amazing Nica-German finca! Saludos❤️
You are most welcome Michelle! This finca really sets the standard for conservation and we hope the practice spreads more widely here in Nicaragua and yes we have seen other pockets, like in Ometepe.
Thanks for watching! This is an amazing place, and a little off the beaten track for most travellers to Nicaragua. It is definitely worth seeing this different side to Nicaragua!
Q lindo lugar, ojalá, así conservarámos la naturaleza, en toda Nicaragua, nuestro país es precioso, pero tenemos que cambiar nuestra mentalidad, y preservar el medio ambiente,
I love Selva Negra, I stayed in this lodge on a short visit and i must say i really enjoyed doing the hikes, also did a trail horse ride, and coffee tour. Thanks so much for sharing, hope you enjoy your stay there. 😊
We loved the hikes as well! We did most of the trails and we wanted to do a horse ride as well, however they were only available on weekends. We had a wonderful time here and so glad we decided to visit!
Hi Michael, thanks for watching! There is so much variety to discover here in Nicaragua, it is amazing to see how dramatically different it is for a relatively small country.
Such a beautiful place! How lucky to get a lift for the 2km. I laughed out loud when you mentioned Jon and the goose 😂 The food looked amazing, especially the chicken with mushroom and rice... how much were the evening meals? Zero food miles for the coffee equals a great score! Thank you for another wonderful video.
We were extremely lucky! Those geese were scary! The dinner meals were really expensive for Nica standards at around AUD$20 each, but organic and large servings. Breakfast was more reasonable at around AUD$7-$8, which was consistent with the cafes back in the nearby city of Matagalpa.
This place looks Amazing! We are totally physicked to go, minus the geese (Tovah has a bit of a fear of geese). We really enjoy being in nature and the food looks delish.
What amazing footage!! Did you find the coffee tasted different? And distraction moment - did you wear long sleeve shirts because of mosquitos or the weather? We can't wait to see your upcoming video!
Thanks! All we know is that the coffee tastes amazing! I (Jon) am more of a coffee drinker than Jay, but she is quickly becoming a convert! Very observant of you re: the long sleeves. It was more because of the weather. We were even using 'long johns' to sleep in. It was cold up there! There were mosquitos in the forest and you would get bitten if you stopped moving! We tend to wear long sleeves in Nicaragua as sun protection (useful when you don't have umbrellas! 😜 ). You will see locals in hoodies and long pants in 35C (95F+) heat too!
Looks amazing! How long would you recommend staying here if you're interested in birdwatching nature? I'd be a solo traveler and would probably arrange for a private taxi to get me there from the airport.
We would recommend that a weekend (2 nights) should be sufficient for travellers looking to experience Selva Negra, however you might want to spend a couple more days to make sure you get the opportunity to find as much as you can. You would love our second vlog about Selva Negra - we were lucky enough to meet scientists who were tagging birds. We got to meet a toucan! Hi Ken, yes there are plenty of places that speak English here. You will find the most English friendly areas to be Granada, Leon and San Juan Del Sur. Our tour guide at Selva Negra spoke English, as well as the owner Mausi. In general, the further North and rural you go, the less English is spoken.
English is also spoken in the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua due to English settlers back in the 17th century. Notice the names of towns like Bluefields and Corn Islands. Also, the English brought slaves from Africa with them for their settlements to labor in, which is why there are a lot of blacks in that region as well. The area is really beautiful and people are really friendly. Their English sounds broken, kind of Jamaican English.
Thanks for watching Robert! We had saved up for a year abroad in 2020 and renting out our home back in Australia is also a big help as it covers our budget lifestyle here in Nicaragua. Given it is still hard to return to Australia, we have decided to try the 'digital nomad' lifestyle with the aim of being able to eventually fund our travels around the world.
Hi, thanks for watching. Yes it is great for foreigners with dollars, however there are plenty of locals who are able to enjoy the country as well. During 2020 and early 2021, all the locals who could afford to travel overseas would travel locally instead, which was great for local tourism. We were the only foreigners here at Selva Negra and the place was filled with locals on the weekend from all over the country.
The worst restaurant service that I have ever experienced in Central America and that is saying much and the restaurant is not cheap or even reasonable !
