I know it's been a while since you filmed this, but it would be worth checking out "SELVA NEGRA Mountain Resort" in Northern Nicaragua (Matagalpa). Yes, it translates into "Black Forest" and you'd be surprised to find its connection to Germany. Saludos!
@@ejnava01 Thanks for suggesting it Edward. You are the second person in a day to recommend Matagalpa and we are thinking of heading up north towards the end of the month to check it out and get out of the heat! We have been recommended Jinotega too, so can visit there at the same time.
Not a secret at all, but surfing outside San Juan del Sur is pretty amazing. Also, I am hoping you make it to the Corn Islands for some diving so I can live vicariously.
wow this location is certainly a hidden gem that most people don't know about. Starts with a good meal and a fun hike through the river. The little swim in the cool waters looks refreshing.
It's crazy to think that only the locals knew of this place until 2004. It was opened up for tourism in 2006, that feels so recent in the grand scheme of things!
Qué maestra esos lugares donde ellos caminan qué lugares más bellos tiene Nicaragua verdad me he quedado sorprendido y algún día voy a conocer esos lugares tan
Wow! 😲😲😲 That place is SO awesome... never been there but I intend to go one day... Generally speaking, I'm very fond of the 'departamentos' in the North for their Mountain Forest climate vs tropical weather of the "occidente'. I LOVE the weather in the northern part of Nicaragua and you may not have experienced it but it GETS COLD in 'invierno' freezing COLD. Can't wait for the next AMAZING adventure!
It is so very awesome, highly recommended! We also like moderate climates and wouldn't mind it right now! We are getting into the hottest part of the year and certainly feeling it. A good thing we are at the beach!

@@BucketListTravellers ha! I’m a devoted subscriber to my channels always hit the like button and watch until the end. It’s so frustrating looking at our analytics “5 min video average watch time 3.5 mins” ughh 😩
@@JohnandCaraRetiredTravellers I know what you mean! Btw I would kill for a 70pc retention rate, well done if you are achieving that! Our $10 challenge video has a retention of 65pc and that is our best. We deem a 'good video' if it is above 50pc.
This is probably one of your best videos, the canyon is amazing and very unique. Coldwater in Nicaragua? Seems almost not possible but it is the northern part of the country.Awesome video!!
Thanks Henry! The canyon was very cool (literally!) and we are very happy that we got the chance to visit it. Yes, the water was definitely a surprise! The weather that day was cooler than usual as well, I'm sure I would have been fine if it was 30C/86F like normal! Nevertheless it was an awesome day.
@@BucketListTravellers despite the cold water, you had a great time!. I really have to go there soon, thanks for the information regarding the tour operators!
The best way I see to get there right now is to go to C.R and then taxi to the border. I prefer American airlines and Delta. Thanks 4 your feed back , be safe guys and God Bless
So happy I found you guys! My parents are from nicaragua and I love going their! What are the COVID restrictions like can you do a video what you had to do before going!
Hi Yerenny, we are so glad you found us too! Welcome to our channel!!🤗🤗 Funnily enough, we entered Nicaragua just before covid in March 2020 and haven't left! Thanks for the idea about doing a video about what is required. We'll have to do our research on that one as we don't know ourselves!
After nearly a year in 90F+ in Granada, 77 is freezing! Being wet and in the shade also added to the cold and it was very surprising to experience this in Nicaragua of all places! Matagalpa will still be pretty hot for you then! Thankfully it cools down at night.
Hi Andrew, thanks for watching! Do you mean how are we able to travel? We got stuck in Nicaragua for 18 months in 2020 and we were able to travel around the country during that time. We've now moved on from Central America and are currently in France. It is much tougher to travel these days and up until very recently we couldn't return home to Australia, so we had no choice but to keep moving between countries.
It's a really beautiful canyon, i hope i can go someday. The northern part of the country is colder than the pacific coast, especially during the months of october, november, december and january, mornings and nights there are different from the pacific, the water is really cold, it's a nice weather. Will you guys visit the caribbean coast?
We are needing some cooler weather right now, it is sweltering here with no breeze! Good question re caribbean coast. We have been tossing up whether to visit Bluefields and Corn Islands next month. Short answer is maybe....
I'm watching your videos and I'm surprised that Nicaragua looks so dry like Australia during summer. I was expecting tropical lush green jungles. I think it looks much greener in wet season.
Hi Peter, you are absolutely right! It gets really dry in the dry season and where we are right now on the pacific coast is reminiscent of the Western Australia coast. There are even eucalyptus trees here too to confuse things even more. In two months time the rainy season will kick in and thats when everything goes green, and muddy!
Last time we looked (back in Jan!) Avianca were the only ones flying out of Miami. Copa airlines (from Panama) have recommenced we believe so you could come via there. Another way to get here that we have heard people do is to fly into Costa Rica (Liberia think...) and then cross the border.

I have lived in San Juan del sur for 5 years 2010-15--. I would never live “over the hill”. Granada, Managua, Leon ,rivas, massaya. . It’s super hot and not that attractive. The ocean area around San Juan is much nicer.
Whilst Granada is hot, you do get a breeze off Lake Nicaragua, so it isn't as oppressive as some other areas. We were only in Leon for 3 days and it was very tough!
