@@jhennessyde-la-fuente7193 yes! Sorry. I think the correct phrase would be "cabbage salad" 😅, it's typically made with white vinegar (or lemon) and salt. It also includes shredded carrot, onion and diced tomatoes. Are you nicaraguan?

@@BucketListTravellers haha. No problem I actually know it as Yuka. I learned it's name after watching a video on the most calorie dense plans for farming. Haha.
Hi Hayam, depends on how comfortable you want to live. You could get by in a one bedder for $500 a month or a 3-4 bedroom house for $1000 a month. For $1500 a month you will live like royalty. Stay tuned because we will be answering this question in a lot more detail soon!
@Haya300 for a small house about 30 dollars for power and water bill, food another 150 and like 50 for local transportation. Ofcourse will not be a fancy house.
Thanks for the helpful info in the video guys! May I ask how do you guys receive the post or get any parcels/packages if you order anything online, do you have mail boxes at each property or do you have to go to a local post office to collect the mail/parcels? Would love to know. Thanks so much :)
Hi, thanks for watching! We have limited experience with the postal system here, however I did get a package delivered from Australia, albeit 4 months after it was dispatched! It was delivered to my door. I think though that generally you need to go into the local post office to check to see whether your parcel has arrived. You don't have mail boxes at each property. There are ways of getting online purchases delivered, however they are a bit complicated and there are typically large import taxes added on from what we have read. So long story short it is possible to get online things ordered, but it is complicated and can be costly!
You're welcome and I'm glad we can help you travel virtually! I see you are also nearly at the magical 1000 subscriber mark, so congratulations in advance for that!👏👏
@@BucketListTravellers me too I was born in Nicaragua my mom move back a few years back now ... I would love to go visit soon wow your videos are so beautiful thank you for sharing 💞
Aww 🥰 my favourite like you are the fried plantains they’re just so addictive! The pork cracking is also my favourite as well and are quite a popular snacks too. Oh I love the Yucca con chancho and the Nacatamales 🫔 that’s so yummy! Try the special nacatamales (or in Spanish nacatamales especiales) they’re a little more pricey but have more stuffing in them. Saludos
Oooh, nacatamales especiales, a mi me gusta! We will keep an eye out for that. We have gained a taste for nacatamales and love them now. I (Jon) love anything with yucca too! We love all Nicaraguense food, well except for huevos del Toros!
@@BucketListTravellers Sorry for the long comment. Well as for Huevos de Toros, I don’t like them either jajaja 🤣 I am happy to know Joh that you both gained and grown to like the favours of Nacatamales 🫔 they do take time to get used to for foreigners specially when they first try these foods because they’re have never tasted these new favours (the spices that are used in many Central American and Mexican dishes is the achiote paste/powder which is red in colour) and is used in making Nacatamales. While on the topic of food, I read in another comment in one of your other videos about Nicaraguan food restaurants in Australia unfortunately we don’t have but the closest to Nica food is a Salvadoran and Central American restaurant in Camden (mostly Salva food) But some dishes cross over with ours and they’re also popular with their Mexican dishes. They also have the food truck called ‘Raza Central’ that goes around Sydney but you need to follow their Facebook page for location, time & dates, for all the info. Nicaraguan food is unfortunately only sold by word of mouth, I can let you know when they have them my mum used to make Nica food but she’s now much older and because making nacatamales 🫔 is so time consuming she hardly makes them now. I’m sending you the restaurant’s link of their Facebook page for you to follow them. Surprisingly, the restaurant’s owner is my sister’s childhood friend Laura or (Laurita as we call her) She will definitely treat you well and is attentive. Saludos y hasta luego! m.facebook.com/RazaCentral/
@@michellea5415 Don't be sorry Michelle, we love reading your comments!! Thank you for answering our Aussie Nica food question, that is good to know when we finally come home! I (Jon) was thinking that a food truck with Central American food could do quite well in Sydney, We will have to do a foodie trip to Camden too! We love pupusas!
Both the restaurant & food truck have been going strong here since they opened! Well, when you both come back you’ll definitely won’t be missing out on all that yummy food you leave behind! Saludos y hasta luego!
@@BucketListTravellers Wow that's impressive, starting a new business with unknown food to Australians. Best of luck with that business and is so flattering that you guys got inspired by Central American food.
I remember my first burger at Mc Donald for 20 cents 35 years ago. lol. LOve to try all the foods you showed today. Sounds like you can eat great and cheap . Whats is the average income in Nicaragua ? Great vlog .
😂 I can remember when large Big Mac McValue meals were $3.95 with a sundae! That would have been 25 years ago now! Not quite sure about the average income for but the minimum wage is around US$8800 a year.
@@BucketListTravellers they are deep fried sacassava with Nicaraguan smoked cheese. Served cinnamon honey 🍯 look for them!! My mum makes em here in Canada but they aren't the same without that Nica cheese
@@BucketListTravellers They're a tiny dessert made out of fried Yucca covered in honey and cinnamon, it's a delicious dessert, but you need to eat them prudently because if you eat too many of them you will have a stomach ache, it's colour is golden (kinda looks like fried chicken) and usually it's cost is 5 Córdobas each or you could buy a bag for 15 or 20 Córdobas. ruclips.net/video/pG1WSUB_Ku8/видео.html
Thanks! Yes it is pretty amazing, we've been tucking into grilled fish on the island we are currently staying on all this week for around $3-$5, it is heaven!
😁. Central America is an interesting place to live! Do you mean English as a foreign language? Not sure how it compares with Asia, but there is certainly demand for ESL in Nicaragua. There are English speaking call centres that support US companies based in the capital of Managua and the jobs there are very lucrative. The only catch is that you need to speak english very well.
@@BucketListTravellers I am Scottish , my wife is Nicaraguense and we currently live in the US but would love to relocate Managua only if we could obtain work as her parents live there so my question is are there many jobs available in these call centres and are they obtainable as English is my first language ....thanks for any advice
Yummy and interesting, yucca at least known in the US would be cassava ... and the nacatamales are pretty similar to the Guatemalan ones though consisintency might feel like a polenta, it is more Of corn masa (same we make corn tortillas with ) corn that has been soaked in lime water (nixtamalization)*.plus added fats typically lard . (But my mom uses olive or grape oil takes hours to make ) So cool that you keep trying all foods and showing it’s crazy to see some of the similar things Nicaragua has with Guatemala (differences too ) and yes when I moved to the US I missed the street vendors though in LA you can find many many many hehe so here In France I miss that more ....
Ah we didn't realise nacatamales were in Guatemala too. Looking back on our 2 weeks in Guatemala, we didn't eat that much tipico food and that was a shame. I wouldn't think there would be much Centro American cuisine on offer in France! 😥
@@BucketListTravellers well ours are just tamales but they are very similar to nacatamales . Yeah too bad, and too bad I hadn’t met you when you were there ... as I have a whole list as a czech friend visited a couple of years ago and asked me for it so I saved it just in case . 😂 We are always taking leaps of faith whenever we eat ground meat and this isn't limited to just Nicaragua! I remember a big scandal from the UK a couple of years ago that uncovered that a well known brand of frozen foods was using horse meat in their lasagnes!
Hi Ariesha, we spent 11 months in Granada, but have since been to Ometepe, San Juan Del Sur, Popoyo, Managua and have just spent the last month in the Northern areas of Matagalpa, Jinotega and Esteli. There is so much to see here!
@@BucketListTravellers haha im half Nicaraguan and visit often from Miami, FL, and ive been sick a few times from the water to god knows what else haha i was so envious of you guys eating anything off the local venders. Loveee your videos. Be safe! Happy Christmas
Hi Anthony, Thanks for watching. We agree with your sentiments. However tipping in a culture that doesn't tip skews the economy towards the services and tourism sector which can make people more vulnerable if tourism suddenly dries up, as it has in recent years. It can also inflate prices and make things more expensive for the locals. We'd recommend supporting locals by using the services of businesses that are locally owned and operated.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. We would really appreciate any suggestions from you on how we can make our videos more interesting. 😁
My Nicaraguan wife has been with me in the US for decades now but the first few years she absolutely refused to eat any kind of ground meat. No burgers, no hot dogs….no ground meat, period. She always said “ in my country you have no idea what animal you are actually eating”….and she was very serious. Reason number 1 million we are happy now to be long time Vegans.
Oh dear.... We are just too trusting by the sounds of it! We had heard that you can eat armadillo in some parts of Nicaragua, however we also read that it can give you leprosy, so if eating an endangered animal was enough reason not to try it, then a gross disease is definitely it! Good on you both for going vegan. You wouldn't know from the video, but we were living as vegetarians 90pc of the time when in Nicaragua.
Sorry guys, most of the food that you are reviewing is some of the lowest quality and most toxic, specifically the combinations and just the food itself. As a naturopathic practitioner of 30 years you’re selecting food items that are leading everybody to organ and glandular failure. I’ve been doing this a long time. Why not review all of the fruit and vegetable options, what pesticides are they using if any, I love the family farms and home eateries, but in general what the Nicaraguans are eating is contributing to the serious health issues In the country.
Hi, thanks for your comments. Yes, a lot of the food examples in the video are more fast food options rather than healthy choices. Great suggestions about the fruit and vegetable options and we have been pulling together footage of the different and exotic types available for another video. We are spoilt for great organic produce in Nicaragua and should highlight this.
@@BucketListTravellers you guys are doing a fantastic job, i love all the foods your showing and eating. Although foods are fattening, USA is still leading when it comes to obesity, USA foods are processed and Nicaraguan food is all from local farms that is not processed . Keep up the videos I’m look forward to them

How much money I need for a month ?
Rent a house for one person and food and everything
Hi Hayam, depends on how comfortable you want to live. You could get by in a one bedder for $500 a month or a 3-4 bedroom house for $1000 a month. For $1500 a month you will live like royalty. Stay tuned because we will be answering this question in a lot more detail soon!

@Haya300 for a small house about 30 dollars for power and water bill, food another 150 and like 50 for local transportation. Ofcourse will not be a fancy house.

Nice! We had so many ice cream sandwiches that we should have been on a first name basis with all the ice cream vendors too!

@@BucketListTravellers
Sorry for the long comment.

@@BucketListTravellers they are deep fried sacassava with Nicaraguan smoked cheese. Served cinnamon honey 🍯 look for them!! My mum makes em here in Canada but they aren't the same without that Nica cheese
@@BucketListTravellers
They're a tiny dessert made out of fried Yucca covered in honey and cinnamon, it's a delicious dessert, but you need to eat them prudently because if you eat too many of them you will have a stomach ache, it's colour is golden (kinda looks like fried chicken) and usually it's cost is 5 Córdobas each or you could buy a bag for 15 or 20 Córdobas.

Watching your videos makes me want to relocate to Central America! If only the EFL market were better... ~JB

Can anyone tell me what’s the price of wheat Pr kg in Nicaragua?? Kindly
Hi Mohammed. Do you mean wheat flour or the grain?
@@BucketListTravellers Wheat grain. I heard Nicaragua imports wheat grain from india,
Yummy and interesting, yucca at least known in the US would be cassava ... and the nacatamales are pretty similar to the Guatemalan ones though consisintency might feel like a polenta, it is more Of corn masa (same we make corn tortillas with ) corn that has been soaked in lime water (nixtamalization)*.plus added fats typically lard .
Hi Anthony,
Thanks for watching.

True! We just don't like wasting food, no matter how cheap. I probably ate it anyway!

Masks???? These local people are laughing.
Hi Eric
Thanks for watching.
From our experience the only people that care whether others are wearing masks or not are foreigners not the locals.
