It took me years to realize, Dinobot knew damn well he wasn't coming out of that alive, and didn't give a shit. He had, quite possibly, the biggest set of balls of any transformer
He was the best written character in the entire show: Second in command predacon, a villain who became a hero, powerfull enough to knock Megatron on his ass multiple times, so dramatic that even Shakespeare would've shed tears. And not only did he accept his end (which he saw comming) he confronted and took it like a champ. This guy is the textbook definition of having balls.
The crazier thing is that while the version in the War for Cybertron Trilogy - Kingdom cartoon doesn't nearly hit as hard (the dialogue sucks), the overall *concept* is still the same: Dinobot rushes into a battle he knows he'd never survive, and retrieved the Matrix of Leadership from the Megatrons (and gave them perhaps an even more brutal beatdown than what an already dying Dinobot did to Transmetal Megs in the original's "Code of Hero"). Matrix basically puts up the Bat-Signal, Optimus Prime finds him, then the Autobots & Maximals, ad nauseam.
This scene always makes me cry. Dinobot had a strong code of honor, was the toughest of them all, handled the entire Predacons, and gave his spark for the humans.....and his speech before he goes offline always hits me. 😭

"The question that once haunted my being's been answered. The future is NOT fixed, and my choices are my own. And yet... how ironic. For I now find... I have no choice at all..." *takes a deep breath* "I am a warrior. Let the battle be joined."
I think no other piece of Transformers media could top Code Of Hero, never has a single episode of a cartoon impacted me so heavily. Dinobot’s sacrifice to prevent the destruction of a future species, taking on the Predacon army, and confronting his former master to honour his strict moral code is profound, especially for a kids show. The moment when his spark rises out of his chest reminded me a lot of the scene where Optimus lifts the matrix from his dying self and hands it to Ultra Magnus, both moments of beauty that make me tear up a little.
Not only that. Dinobot suffered an existential and identity crisis throughout whole show. The fact that he realized at the end that his choices were completely his own and not dictated by fate, yet was chained by his own duty as a honorable warrior, it's really tragic. He never got to go back home, and never could, something he knew once he became a maximal. It was either come back a traitor, or die a hero in this unknown planet. They really outdid themselves with Dinobot's story.

Dinobot was more than just a villain turned hero: He was Megatron's right hand and was therefor second only to him. The most badass warrior, the best written character in the entire show (Shakespeare would've been proud despite Beastwars beeing a kids show) and not only did he accept his fate in the end, he faced his end like a champ. Megatron: "One lonely turncoat, battling all against impossible odds. I'm almost touched. Fortunately such moments pass quickly". That's exactly what i've always liked about Beast Wars: even at its most serious moments, it never takes itself too seriously :)
It just shows Dinobot represents the positve traits of being a Predacon while later embracing the noble values of a Maximal, whereass Beast Megatron was a Predacon, but was even more a Decepticon in nature than even the orginal Megatron ever was, who in many ways had more in common with Dinobot (minus the Honor, whereass Megatron valued victory at every cost), while Beast Megatron had more in common with Starscream (minus the cowardice as well being more successful at his plans than the Air Commander). Dinobot shaped me. My concept of honor and the code of a warrior were defined by him. I've rewatched this so many times that I've lost counts. My code of honor will be forever defined by this show
Great character development Dinobot started out as a predacon who wanted on revenge on megatron and frankly who can blame him (even rattrap couldn’t blame him) and then he had compassion for his new maximal friends especially optimus and the humans. In the series finale he never lost sight of who he was even as a transmittal predacon.

It's a cartoon, yet there aren't many shows of any kind that have an episode in their catalog that's as well written and emotionally powerful as this. Job well done
"Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly - the ill deeds, along with the good - and let me be judged accordingly. The rest … is silence..." Quoted by Dinobot
The parallels of Dinobot and Starscream from transformers armada are great as both of them knew they would parish in their final moments but still pushed forward
I saw this episode as a kid, but missed its original air date, but saw all the others after it, so I didn't realize that he even died. I remember wondering where he was and everything. Until that season ended and the entire season started over, and i actually saw what happened. Boy! Had me crying!!
Dinobot’s fight against the Predacons in Protohuman valley ended in a dramatic success with him taking too much damage, unable to transform (because he lost most parts of his Velociraptor form), his downfall, and worst of all… his carcass was taken away to somewhere.
The atmosphere of this episode is flawless, and the tone is set as soon as Tarantulas gets that cheap shot on Dinobot. You immediately notice he has a visible hole in his chest, and his helmet is scratched. In this show, they ONLY show visible damage if it matters, and the big battle hadn't even started yet. Great foreshadowing. This really was the best episode of the show.
This will forever be in my memory... I can still remember the dialogue of this scene from the first time I watched it on television when it first aired yearrrssssss ago. Legendary is all that is.
I know this is a sad vid, but this particular narrative 3:41 is one of my favorites in all transformers lore. David Kaye was a masterpiece and I wish he would have done other TF shows.
"Negative! The question that once answered my being has been answered. The future is not fixed. My choices are my own, and yet... *realises his own code of honour will not allow him to do anything other than fight for the defenceless* how ironic... for I now find I have no choice, no choice at all... *sighs accepting his 'fate'* I am a warrior. Let the battle be joined."
What truly makes Dinobot's sacrifice a true demonstration of his character is the fact that he had no skin in the outcome of this. He was "ethnically" a Predacon. He would have lived even if the humans were destroyed. Yet, he was honor bound to do the right thing, regardless if he went against the interests of his own people. We like to think of Maximals and Predacons as factions but it was more than that. It was a the equivalent of a racial or ethnic division within Cybertronians and there were good and bad among both. Dinobot proved there were honorable and good among the predacons, and Quickstrike shows there were evil ones among the Maximals. Remember Quickstrike was never reprogrammed so he was willingly evil. Also Maximals were into some evil stuff too, with the experiments that created Rampage. Dinobot was proud of his Predacon heritage and would have liked nothing more than to see his people prosper, but he hated what the Predacons as a faction had become with all the deceit and lack of honor. To him, it was the coward's way to win. If you notice, when he became a Maximal he never used deceit or treachery to try and seize power. When he vied for leadership, it was always out in the open and direct. Dinobot embodied what a Predacon should have been and they had fallen so far away from it that to him it was better to become a Maximal.
Dinobot literally overrode Stasis Lock, which is what always allows them to sustain immense damage and still make it out alive. Have you even watched this series?

It's a cartoon, yet there aren't many shows of any kind that have an episode in their catalog that's as well written and emotionally powerful as this. Job well done
Even though he was injured, he kept fighting, and that’s what makes him a great Maximal.
"Tell my tale to those who ask. Tell it truly - the ill deeds, along with the good - and let me be judged accordingly. The rest … is silence..."
Quoted by Dinobot
Man. . . I just remembered how much I freaking liked dinobot out of all of em. He carried this show for me.
The parallels of Dinobot and Starscream from transformers armada are great as both of them knew they would parish in their final moments but still pushed forward
I'm 35 now and this still destroys me.
One last roast to the vermin before dying. Truly a warrior.
One of most touching scene of all brand!
It's equal to Prime's Death in G1 movie for feelings...
G1 movie ?
@@GroovyAbzu Yes, "Transformers The Movie".

I remember seeing this on TV in the 90s....still hits home as it did back then 😢
i still cry when i watch this only other death to hit me this hard was primes back in the 86 movie
I saw this episode as a kid, but missed its original air date, but saw all the others after it, so I didn't realize that he even died. I remember wondering where he was and everything. Until that season ended and the entire season started over, and i actually saw what happened. Boy! Had me crying!!
That scream when he uses his last drop of energy to destroy the disk gives me chills.
Dinobot went out the way he wanted with full honour!
He lived a warrior, and died a hero.Let his spark join the matrix,in the greatest of cybertron
This was so sad Rattrap lost his Transmetal form at Dinobot's funeral.
Dinobot’s fight against the Predacons in Protohuman valley ended in a dramatic success with him taking too much damage, unable to transform (because he lost most parts of his Velociraptor form), his downfall, and worst of all… his carcass was taken away to somewhere.
Downfall implies final defeat rather than success and his remains were cremated.
Legendary is all that is.
this was on ytv every morning before school...growing up in the 90's was the best
Dinobot was the most baller character on the show.
He started as a predacon but died as a hero
I know this is a sad vid, but this particular narrative 3:41 is one of my favorites in all transformers lore. David Kaye was a masterpiece and I wish he would have done other TF shows.
Yeeees...
Rattrap was bickering with Dinobot the whole time yet he's the one to salute the fallen warrior first. A true brother in arms.
Rhinox is right: *That guy has bearings of chrome steel!* And he truly proved his mettle to the very end! _(salutes)_
0:11 when your buddy gets declined by his crush...
Holy shit. Good catch
Priceless
"Till all are one"
our favorite character dinobot
The greatest scene in cartoon history 😢
Even after 20 years Dinobot's legacy lives on!
Happy 28th Anniversary "TRANSFORMERS: BEAST WARS" (SEPTEMBER 16, 1996)
If he didn't join the Matrix he sure would have gone to Sto'vo'kor. An honorable death in a battle worthy of story and song!
Or Valhalla.
Dinobot held the future in his hands. So he dared. He dared to keep all of his dreams alive. He took a stand.
And he won because he dared.
Unfortunately he didn’t dare to believe he could survive
He lived a warrior and died a hero. Let his spark join the Allspark, the greatest of Cybertron.
Such a badass scene. Gives me chills every time. I'm so happy that I grew up watching this.
@ 3:02
I love the way the computer emphasizes LOSS OF SPARK!
The greatest ever written character in Transformers, hands down.
Goodbye Dinobot a good soldier, friend and hero...😢🫡
Gotta love how the Predacons all had plot armor here, and still lost. They got their heads blown off, but still live.
Dinobot literally overrode Stasis Lock, which is what always allows them to sustain immense damage and still make it out alive.
Have you even watched this series?
