  • It's time to get a good stranglehold on all of that neck anatomy. Luckily, learning to draw and paint necks isn't as difficult as trying to repeatedly pronounce sternocleidomastoid and larynx.

    Can’t really underestimate how much help simplifying anatomy provides, especially when most anatomy books load things with detail.

    • @roberto.herber
      @roberto.herber 3 года назад +55

      well at any time you can just study other artists since they already had to pass throught this simplification studies, and I find it very productive to see and apply both ends of detail quality 😳

      I always simplify all to shapes and planes and then add some details that are important xD

      @@roberto.herber probably best to throw in some deliberate studies where you try and understand and copy every aspect of the artist's anatomy, so much nuance that affects the greater whole you could almost never fully appreciate unless you force yourself to find the patterns

      Long necks are a 'sign of beauty'.
      Short-necked models need not apply.

    • @lonestarr1490
      @lonestarr1490 3 года назад +31

      Actually, no. You don't use your whole palm to strangle. It's much easier to apply more force if you shrink the surface by using mainly the area between your index fingers and thumbs.
      You can read all about it and much more in my upcoming book _Expertise That Makes You Look Like a Creep 101_ . So stay tuned for that!

    I actually have a lot of trouble not with the head itself, but with the neck & shoulders positions. For me is the hardest, cuz no one tells you how hard it is to draw this areas and people tend to only focus in the head. But the neck has its own unique shapes that need so much attention as well, so if we cannot understand and don't draw them correctly, the drawing won't be good at all. Thank you so much for this!
