I think I'm right in saying that the 'Brap' sound from a rotary is caused by port overlap, which is more pronounced when the ports have been extended for longer intake/exhaust durations. The RX8 uses the same platform as the NC MX5, but with an extended wheelbase. They handle amazingly well and rust just like MX5s. I owned an FD RX7 for almost 10 years.
Made it to work on Monday fresh as a daisy 😂 This was a much more sociable release time, was able to partake in a few beers with you 🤙🏻 Bought an RX8 a few years ago after a heavy night with a few mates, it was brilliant. It had a very free flowing cat on it (empty) ran like a dream, single figures MPG when pressing on though, would get back from a quick run out in it, sitting on the couch absolutely buzzing but stinking of unburnt fuel 😂 It was perfectly reliable, didn't use too much oil but it was the rot that got to it, needed a little more than some MOT in a can, nothing that couldn't be sorted by a man of your talents with the metal hot glue gun!
Ive had two RX8s and loved them, lovely gearshift (mx5 box i think), loads of space, comfortable for four, great stereo and this without mentioning the engine. Its massively characterful the 231, fast enough and couple the 9k redline with the fact that rotarys have lower spinning mass the speed in which it revs makes it a right laugh. Can be problematic of course but a few points, they need to turn over at a decent speed so a bad battery or dieing starter can give hot start issues which are often mistaken for engine failure. Same as failing ignition coils. The oil use is because its injected into the engine to lubricate the rotor tips. Failure is usualy due to rotor tip wear and then low compression which can only be tested with a special mazda tool not a normal tester. Of course most importantly -as Smith and Sniff found out- f*cking Sade has/had one, do it Ben be a smooooth operatorrr
Still don’t know how you can make every episode better than the last. Anyway, now you have the ‘ring “Just the Lap”, perhaps you should have ‘Tasty Classics: Just for Scrap’. Wynne should also have a spin-off “Wynne wings it”, or something…
1st … you could if you lived in Australia…the other week there was a chap who broke into an airfield at night (incidentally where he worked) and pinched a helicopter and promptly crashed it into a hotel, killing himself in the middle of the night
