  • In this initial impressions overview, I go hands-on with A Pup Above. This cooked dog food differentiates itself from many of the other subscription/delivered cooked dog foods by improving upon its ingredient composition, placing a focus on transparency, and utilizing a superior cooking method with sous vide. Furthermore as opposed to a varied QTY, A Pup Above standardized the amount of food in each bag. Each bag is 3lbs and comes with multiple packs of 16oz loaves of the corresponding recipe. This allows you to have flexibility in how much you serve your dog. In my personal experience, I have found dogs have better energy levels, superior health, and skin and coat alongside better weight balance and smaller stools. It also carries the benefit of generally allowing for less food to be served, so while it is more expensive than most kibble it carries many many more benefits and can be fed less. As always review your feeding strategy with your vet and balance against the life stage of your dog alongside their breed, age, and activity level.
    They have four different protein options and all include an organ meat protein which is great as a natural taurine source and also provides additional nutrients that are not as biologically appropriate or digestible as found in other sources.

    I'm using the farmers dog right now, approved by my holistic vet. listening to all of these reviews about all these different companies, I'm starting to realize that anything is better than kibble. you get what you pay for, and i have heard good and bad about all of them. whatever works and whatever your dog likes. don't drive yourself crazy over finding the best like I did! 😅

      Thank you so much. Thankfully me and my family are doing OK alongside the all three of the pups. I will be looking to return to content on a consistent basis sometime in late July. So stay tuned. I also we be looking to possibly host weekly live stream with general "news and findings on new treats, chews, foods and items that be of interest".

    I work for a pet store. I love a pup above and so does my dog! I also put kelp, a joint supplement, ultra oil for healthy coat microflora probiotic and Ziwi meal boosters.

      @@ExperiencesWithMyDog also hopefully information about joint and teeth health, please!
      I have a pup that is exactly half blue heeler and half Australian shepherd. He loves frisbee and I'm worried about his joints because he does so much jumping, and he jumps super high.
      Also, the frisbee catching has worn down all his front teeth to little nubs and I can see his nerves it looks like =(

    Thanks for this info! Are the animals used in this product pasture-raised?

    • @ExperiencesWithMyDog
      @ExperiencesWithMyDog  3 года назад

      No, but most protein ( animal protein eaten by humans or pets is no grass-fed / pasture-raised ). I would still say this is a superior offering as you do have access to see sourcing information per their look-up option but keep in mind with formulated compositions like this you can have two different sources where you have one grass-fed and the other not. In addition, you can still have a high-quality protein that could be pasture-raised but grain-finished or a mix of such. Currently, few companies have invested in the cost associated with GAP or AGA certification.
      If this is critical look at OpenFarm, Evermore Pet Food, or animal foods that are sourced from New Zealand whether it be beef or lamb. There are other options but will move you more towards a raw option than a cooked one. Ultimately with the exception of a handful of companies the best option to ensuring high-quality pasture-raised protein use is DIY cooked.
      Hope this helps, enjoy your Sunday.

    HiA! I have a pit bull who struggles with allergies and have beeb told that a cooked dog food would be ideal for him. How do you know how much to feed your dog of this food if no online profile exists for feeding?

      Yes, I actually did cover Raised Right. They are an outstanding choice alongside Answers and Evermore Pet Foods are right up there at the top of a product I really feel comfortable and confident about recommending. It is expensive so a home prepared option I feel may be a better option for those on a budget but if you can afford it is a great choice. I really appreciate the focus on essentially no carbs and the focus being on high quality animal protein.

      Started with Farmer's Dog then tried Ollie, here's how it went. My maltese babies, well one if them is pickier than picky, so we were using farmers dog and the first shipment was great, my babies ate it and it was great. So the next ones start coming in and my poor babies stopped eating it and I noticed we started only getting mostly broccoli and watery liquid. It was just mostly chunks of broccoli stem stalks. The food from farmers dog aesthetically does looks better than these at Ollie to be honest. So we switched from farmers dog because my dogs can't live off of broccoli so I really hoped this Ollie stuff looked better and tasted better than it looked, yikes!! **** update Ollie was a disaster. Everyone of my packs were sliced open on my very first delivery so every bit of that dog food had to be trashed and wasted. I cannot believe they have that piss poor quality control JUST SAY NO TO OLLIE and now I'm back looking for a new quality company

      @ExperiencesWithMyDog  2 года назад

      Modok's collar is from Buckle Down there is a review on the channel as well. They offer them in a range of sizes and designs.
      In regards to supplementation yes I usually do have a few others Items I include in their meal outside of the "primary food it's self". This will rotate on occasion but there some consistent items.

    JJ, what are you giving your dog regularly right now?

    • @ExperiencesWithMyDog
      @ExperiencesWithMyDog  3 года назад +1

      I do adhere to a rotational diet so do look to change up my dogs food at a min protein wise at least every 4 to 6 months.
      Modok is raw diet - Currently Tuckers Raw with addition of supplements and other fresh foods
      Bowie is also on a raw diet - Currently the same as Modok
      Ultron was on a DIY cooked dog food rotating between Bison, Vension and Beef and gets the same supplementation as Bowie and Modok.
      I am trying out Wild Earth with Ultron currently.

    What else do you add to your dog’s food bowl other than the cooked dog food?

    • @ExperiencesWithMyDog
      @ExperiencesWithMyDog  3 года назад +1

      Bone broth is a consistent staple along with pumpkin and generally at least twice a week goat's milk. I also will rotate in fresh toppings this can include items using from real dog box ( toppers like beef liver, sardines, anchovies, tripe ). Depending on the season I may also rotate in some colustrum and krill oil.

    What do you think of pro-biotic and mushroom powders for strong immune system & getting gut health back to normal? Would raw Goats Milk and Colostrum be just as effective for leaky gut or dogs with yeast / allergy skin issues? I would think feeding this food & Goats Milk / Colostrum would be enough?

    • @ExperiencesWithMyDog
      @ExperiencesWithMyDog  3 года назад

      Sorry I missed this comment. I think if looking to boost immunity that goat's milk and moderate colostrum are great options. Ideally if your dog is dealing with this issues I would look to begin to integrate this but also look to shift down to a limited ingredient recipe with ideally a novel protein.

    love everything about it except the Sous-Vid cooking method what means the food is in a sealed plastic bag in warm water

      @@ExperiencesWithMyDog Why do some companies add vitamins when the food already contains many veggies? Looks like Evermore contains just as many veggies that a Pup Above has?
