But in reality, in 1944 luftwaffe pilots didn't know how to handle a jet, so they would try to dogfight the P-51, BIG MISTAKE. In a one-on-one dogfight, the P-51 destroys the ME-262, and that's because of the ME-262's bad agility. What you're SUPPOSED to do in a ME-262 is kill the bomber plane, and then book-it out of there. This is because you can use the ME-262's superior speed, the ME-262 is MUCH faster than the P-51. So you basically just outrun the P-51. The world's first jet fighter was certainly most effective and successful in her rôle as a bomber destroyer ... and she could do so even while infiltrating her speedy way right through the fighter screen (protecting the "heavy babies"), sending down the selected target(s) and then powering away from the scene and reporting "back to base"!
