If you need some help strengthening your upper abdomen try placing your feet underneath a couch or something heavy in order brace your legs down and isolate your abdomen. exhale and engage your abdomen to bring yourself up and get those shoulder blades off the ground. Start with a crunch and then work your way up to the sit up. make sure you do not strain your neck and spine. holding a plank form is another great way to build full body strength. This is really helpful and way more informative than the other videos, except, trying to lift myself up is absolutely impossible as if I'm superglued down 😭 I have scoliosis, I had the spinal surgery and my torso is incredibly weak now! Do you have any tips for people like me? If 1 is beginner level, then i'd be -100 🥺

    • @FitnessForTransformation
      @FitnessForTransformation  3 года назад +30

      Hello 👋🏼 willow thank you for reaching out and I’m sorry to hear about your scoliosis. If you are recovering from surgery your body will require some physical therapy.
      Tip 1:
      If you’re doctor has cleared you for physical activity I would start with a “sit back“
      Start sitting on your rear with your legs extended straight in front of you.
      Place your feet under a couch 🛋 or have a partner brace your legs.
      Inhale and engage your abdominal muscles as you slightly lean back, reclining with control as far back as possible. Start with small recline and hold that pose when your abs are challenged but still in control.
      Then exhale out through your mouth and sit back up returning to your starting position.
      This is one of many ways to build up your core strength. Try it out and let me know how it goes!
      I hope this helps! Thank you for much for watching!

      Check out the "knees-over-toes" guy. He believes you can rehabilitate virtually any part of your body. After years of knee pain (starting as a kid) and multiple surgeries (one knee even has a partial fake bone in it) he now has incredible knee strength and performance. Check him out on RUclips and watch ALL of his mini-clips. I think it would be worth checking him out.

    • @FitnessForTransformation
      @FitnessForTransformation  3 года назад +28

      hello Lily! That’s no problem you got this! When I began my fitness journey I couldn’t do single sit up at all!
      We can do this!!
      If you need some help strengthening your upper abdomen try placing your feet underneath a couch or something heavy in order brace your legs down and isolate your abdomen.
      First let’s Start with a crunch and then work our way up to the sit up.
      1. Lie on your back and take a take a deep breath to Engage your abdominal muscles this is your starting position. (Place those feet under something heavy)
      2. exhale and engage your abdomen to bring yourself up and get those shoulder blades off the ground.
      3. Inhale and return to starting position
      Once ready move up to the sit ups:
      1. Lie on your back and take a take a deep breath to Engage your abdominal muscles this is your starting position. (Keep those feet placed under something heavy)
      2. exhale and engage your abdomen to bring yourself up as far as you can and Hold
      3. Inhale and return to starting position.
      make sure you do not strain your neck and spine When crunching or sitting up. Take it nice and slow and move with control.
      Another great exercise to help build that core is a plank. If you want to learn other moves that will help you build the strength necessary to do a sit up check out my HOW TO PLAYLIST for more instructional videos!!
      I hope this helps and please stay in touch! I would love to help!!

    • @FitnessForTransformation
      @FitnessForTransformation  3 года назад +21

      Hi friend! Sorry for the delayed response! What’s happening here is that your lower abdomen needs a bit more strength in order to perform the sit up without raising your legs. Try adding flutter kicks to your core routine and you’ll see that when you develop more of your lower abs, you’ll have more control with your sit up!

    • @FitnessForTransformation
      @FitnessForTransformation  14 дней назад +1

      Hi JJ, The main difference between a sit-up and a crunch is the range of motion and the muscles they target:
      1. Sit-up:
      • Involves lifting your entire upper body off the ground until your chest is near your knees.
      • Targets the rectus abdominis (the front of your abdomen), but also engages other muscles like the hip flexors, lower back, and obliques.
      • It involves a larger range of motion, which can put more strain on the lower back.
      2. Crunch:
      • Involves only lifting your shoulders and upper back off the ground while keeping the lower back on the floor.
      • Focuses more on isolating and working the rectus abdominis without engaging the hip flexors as much.
      • It’s a smaller movement with less risk to the lower back.
      In short, sit-ups are a full upper-body movement with more muscle groups involved, while crunches are a smaller, more controlled motion that primarily targets the abs.

    Any tips for really boney people? My spine always pushes against the ground and kills my back lol I'm 13 yrs old

    • @FitnessForTransformation
      @FitnessForTransformation  3 года назад +3

      Hi 👋🏼yes definitely! If your spine is hurting try using a yoga mat or another soft surface to lay on and put on some thick sweat pants or shorts to protect your tail bone.
      I have excess skin on my rear from loosing so much weight and it causes me pain. the pants really help.
      when you lay back between reps keep your back and shoulders off the ground and come back up. Don't rest your back on the ground in between repetitions.
      I hope this helps! please let me know how it goes!

      Exhale slowly to bring yourself up and inhale slowly to bring yourself back down.
      Start moving slow and feel your muscles work together. Create a connection with your mind and your muscles.
      Once you’ve mastered moving slow you can begin to speed it up. Be careful with your form and make sure you don’t hurt your neck.

      Hi Mariah! I totally understand. Sit ups can be a bit advanced but you can do it! Have you tried my breathing techniques? On my how to sit up
      video I mention the breathing pattern I use to get the most out of each repetition.
      breathing is key in order to activate your abs and bring yourself up and down with control.
      First - try placing your feet underneath a couch or something heavy in order brace your legs down and isolate your upper abdomen.
      Second - exhale and engage your abdomen to bring yourself up and get those shoulder blades off the ground. Start with a crunch and then work your way up to the sit up. make sure you do not strain your neck and spine.
      a few variations to help you develop the core strength to do a sit ups are crunches, flutter kicks, planks, and standing abdomen workouts like steam engines and knee raises. If you need more help feel free to reach out and don't forget to check out the HOW TO PLAYLIST for more instructional videos!! I hope this helps! and thanks again for watching!!
