    So, who's tried this technique straight after watching the video? 😉

    • @NickRothman1980
      @NickRothman1980 4 года назад +3

      I tried it, but unfortunately I've got a fat bastard belly yet, so I'll give it another go when I've got rid of that. I take it this exercise is for people who have already got a relatively flat tummy, because I can't get right up to the top of the knees.

      Good effort for trying mate! hey I don't think you're the only one, this lockdown and corona virus has made us eat more and move less. At the beginning of lockdown the boxes of cherry bakewells I had demolished didn't exactly help my sit-ups lol. Anyway... answer to your question- Full sit-ups are hard to do, requires quite a bit of core strength. Have you tried doing half sit-ups. It's an easier alternative to help build your core strength and help to eventually do a full sit-up?
      Would you like me to post a video for a half sit-up?

      @@CombatFit Thanks for getting in touch. I've been looking online since I watched your vid and have found a crunch that I am comfortable with. It's a bit easier on the belly. Lol. • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  2 года назад +5

      Great question Inola. Yes it could be down to a weak core, also technique and other muscles such as your hip flexors. However, yes Poking your feet down under a solid object will help you develop some core strength and help improve your technique. Trying other core exercises will also help improve core strength and make your sit-ups stronger. I hope this helps

    What if when you're on the ground, you arch your stomach forward, so that if your face was pointing left, your body makes a kind of C shape (of course not so steep of a curve)? I find that this instantly makes the sit up wayyyy harder and I need to use my triceps to help, just 10 has me burning.

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  Год назад

      Yes this can be more effective as you are contracting your abdominal muscles more. Like you said, you just have to be mindful of arching the back to much and causing strain on the lower back. If it works for you and it doesn't cause back pain, then keep doing this version of the sit-up :)

  • @darkman92

    i still can not do this, i tried doing sit ups, i put my elbows and my spine in the floor put i could not complete step 2 (engaging the core) and i hold my feet in

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  21 день назад

      This might be due to not having the hip flex and core strength just yet. try anchoring your feet down underneath a sofa or bed. Work on this and focus on engaging the core. (Do this for a couple of weeks) x20 reps x 4 rounds. Once this becomes to easy then try without the anchor :)

  • @robotcrusher8924
    @robotcrusher8924 Год назад +1

    I am able to do decline situps holding a 10kg bag behind my head for 10 reps for 3 sets using one of those seats that hold your legs in place, but I can't do 1 singular situp without my feet anchored, not even close either. Why? I believe its because I've got a lanky body, really long legs and really long arms, not sure though.

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  Год назад

      Having your feet anchored is just as effective when doing regular sit-ups. However, reasons why you can't keep your feet down when doing sit-ups could be that you're using improper technique (i.e. keeping your feet too close to your butt), or your body weight or limb proportions make it more difficult for you to do so

      Hi Jack,
      Yes I'm quite confident this will be the form they will be looking for. I have personal trained a couple of clients who have gone into the Royal Marines and I can imagine the form they are looking for is very similar. Have a quick look at the royal marines sit-up bleep test. The difference is you are doing it in a minute and the royal marines is on a bleep.

    • @CombatFit

      Bending your back slightly isn't bad. However, it depends how much you are bending it. If you are bending it more than you're supposed to try this:
      When you come up with your body focus on driving your chest up towards the ceiling and also keep your head slightly up looking up towards the corner of the room. Because as soon as you look down with your head this will begin to curve your back.
      I hope this helps buddy!

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  3 года назад +8

      Great question! Doing sit-ups is great for core strength and building core muscles. However, you don't want to be just doing these on their own. If you're wanting to lose belly fat unfortunately the body can't target an area like that. So the most important thing for you to focus on would be your diet aswell as a blend between cardio/strength training. Fat comes off the body overall and in some areas quicker due to genetics and body type. Have a look at my 40 minute classes, they might help you too. When your doing sit-ups try doing x15 reps x4 sets. Add them into your routine 3 times a week if possible 👍🏻

    I know this video was a while ago, but don't you need to have your hands on the back of your head with your elbows pointing outwards to the sides? And also I heard that you shouldn't be using momentum to push yourself up, could someone clear this two things up please?

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  2 года назад +2

      Putting your hands on the back of your head tends to promote pulling your head forward and causing pressure on the neck and top of spine. I prefer telling clients to have their hands on the side of their head or top of knees. Having your elbows forwards gives you and indicator of how far you go up. Yes you can avoid some momentum by keeping the elbows forward, this tends to be harder and isolates the abdominals. However, these are a good base to start with and also a great overall functional core exercise.

      Thanks for your question! Not being able to do sit-ups without support is quite common. It might be due to a lack of core strength or hip flexor tightness. Focusing on strengthening your core muscles with exercises like planks and leg raises can help. Additionally, stretching your hip flexors might make a difference. Keep practicing, and you'll see improvement over time. If you need more tips, feel free to ask! 💪😊

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  2 года назад

      Hi Daniel, This could be due to a number of things. Most commonly your form (You might be rounding your back too much). OR it could be down to your core strength and endurance. Your core isn't just your abs, its also your back (Middle section of your body).

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  2 года назад

      Yeah they are a very hard exercise. Start with easier ersions of the sit-ups to build your core strength and practice your technique. Then when that becomes easier try making it harder and have your feet pinned down by something and try a full sit-up. Once that gets easier, perform more reps or remove your feet from being pinned down and perform the one shown at the end on this video. Good luck dude!

    How come when I do this my backbone hurts

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  3 года назад +1

      Great question Mike. This could be a number of reasons.
      1.) Usually the most common is performing sit-ups on hard ground. Use a thick yoga mat and this will take away the pressure from the lower spine.
      2.)Technique could be your next problem (Arching your back). Make sure you straighten our back and tense your abs. If you struggle to do full sit-ups then start with half ones and build your core strength.
      3.) Feet are to close causing to much bend in your knees. This will cause more roundness in your lower back. Make sure your knees are 90 degrees.

      It might be because you haven't got the hip flexor and core strength just yet. Try starting with half sit-ups. (Hands on top of your thighs and run them up as close as you can to your knees, lifting your upper back off the floor) Try this for a few weeks and then attempt one full sit-up.

    Honestly, terrible video if you're a beginner. I tried this, my feet instantly lifted off the floor, I struggled to get up, felt my back arching uncontrollably and my back hurt afterwards. Maybe this videos useful for those who already work out a lot, but for a beginner this is a disaster.

      To do a full sit-up as a beginner is always going to be tricky. This video was more aimed at those that have trained for a bit, but still can't seem to figure out how to do one. If you are just starting then your hip flexor and core strength wont be developed just yet. Try starting with half sit-ups. (Hands on top of your thighs and run them up as close as you can to your knees, lifting your upper back off the floor) Try this for a few weeks and then attempt one full sit-up.

  • @petehill8885

    not the best technique, it encourages to much swing and cheating. you need to start with the back at about 30 degrees and go forward only 10 inches. most of this technique is a waste of time and energy

    • @CombatFit
      @CombatFit  2 года назад

      I agree if you are only wanting to isolate the abdominals. However, if an individual is wanting to improve functional movement and target multiple muscles around the core, back & legs then they are better performing the full range of motion. (I disgree this technique is a waste of time and energy). If this was the case then the armed forces such as the Royal Marines would not use this same technique. ruclips.net/video/bWarBnSgo78/видео.html
