    that tip to use your elbows for momentum got me from 8 to 21 situps

    25 without one but if strain. That elbow swing works. I did it properly and used the elbows. Thanks Instructors.

    genuine question: from an exercise science standpoint, why do we still use sit-ups as an indication of as agencies call it “core-muscular strength”?
    much science has been well documented how terrible the sit-up is for the spine. compromises those with existing or nagging back injuries, and is one of the least effective exercises in measuring core stamina or strength. it’s a very outdated exercise that does not indicate true core strength. It’s simply a movement that mostly is a hip flexor activator.
    why not consider doing what military units and other agencies are doing by forgoing on the sit-up and changing it for a plank for time? this is far more indicative of a candidates core strength and will actually allow all participants an honest chance at making their score based on the metric claimed to be tested (core-muscular strength).

    Anyone know if the test is on soft matting like that? I’m really skinny and my butt bones stick out and hurts so much when I do sit-ups

      The minimum number of sit-ups is dependent on the individuals age and sex.

    The fact that people still use situps in a pt test is a joke. Doing fast reps means form is sacrificed and injuries occur. More places are doing a 2 minute plank. It focuses more on the core and lessens injury. This shit is so archaic

      The minimum number of sit-ups for a 31 year old male is 36.

      I must be doing something wrong. I'm going super fast and can only manage to do 35 in a minute. I need to see videos of people doing 50+

      @@kevinr175 I saw a video on here (RUclips) that helped me get better. I went from 30-34 up to 40. Not a big jump but helped. It said to make sure your legs are further down from your body over them being closer so that you use more of your hamstrings to pull you up over your abdominal area.

      I believe for males it is 41, and for females it is 32

      The minimum requirement for each exercise will depend on the age and sex of the individual.
