I remember when I first started reading this. I was looking for something else for an answer, but then I got caught up in the intensely powerful mountaintop experience to the depth of depression wanting to not be alive. I so appreciate this podcast for the context and depth of understanding I have been searching for.

The way Tim & John explore the scriptures in a thematic way in conversation is great but I just wanted to say thank you to Tyler (hope I spelled your name right) for the sound interludes, they are such a vibe and great way to segway. Thank you all

As Tim was describing Elijah's despair on Mount Sinai, I began to wonder if he was suffering from PTSD? He had been through a three-year drought along with all of Israel, had been in hiding from King Ahab, and had been separated from his fellowship of prophets. What do you think?

Just want to preface this by saying that this is my favorite Bible podcast, and I have loved and learned from it for years!
That said, I'm confused as to why Tim thinks Elijah had "a violent impulse," as stated and elaborated on at 24:40. Isn't it clear that Elijah was enacting the law from Deuteronomy 13 and Deuteronomy 17? If he was following the law set out by God, why does Tim interpret this as Elijah using religious violence against people, especially since the law itself prescribed such actions for specific situations?
Does this mean God prescribed violence to coerce His people into obedience, or was the law not God-inspired, as even Moses' example suggests?
Even John wasn't sold on the idea that Elijah was on a violence streak.
    Maybe I’m missing something?

Doesn't Jesus manifest God as unconditionally loving and merciful? Giving life?

@@oktober06Jesus is not unconditional loving. God is always conditional. Jesus act of love for creation not individuals, came without conditions but even then you need to believe in him, which is to follow him, that is conditional. It is all over the Bible. Because it means trust and only by doing do we know that is faith if not why do it

Tim is commonly wrong. He interprets based on his set understanding not based on scriptures.

It's the portrait of a man who was bold- faithful & faced a king, evil queen & false god, came out victorious but man's heart (woman's too) is still evil & he has no rest or safety... He's over it. I get it.

Hmmm…I don’t usually disagree with you, but I am not convinced that somehow God rejects Elijah and as you said it (in your tone) dismissively replaces him.

You should usually disagree with him actually. I usually don’t quite agree ( in the way that I feel sounds good but there is some thing wrong) with BP but they do have good stuff. But the core of it, I believe the nuances lead to dangerous ideas that is not biblical.

Agreed the rest of the story shows he simply needed to move on to his next stage of life

I wonder if Elijah shadows John the Baptist and Elisha Jesus?

Elijah must appear again based on prophecy before the Christ. This is a big topic.
