  • Today, I celebrate my anniversary of living at my home here in Los Altos. I closed on my house 22 years ago today but it did not record with Los Angeles County Tax Assessor until Monday, May 11, 2001. I am so grateful and joyous on this day every year. Thank you to Janet Powell (seller) for choosing me as the steward of your house. She is deceased now. But I will never forget her. There is a story behind my purchase that I can share for whoever wants to hear it. Mrs Powell and I kept in contact for several years after my purchase. And when she passed her family contacted me and let me know.
I was NOT the highest offer on the table but she chose me. I know this for a fact. There is a personal reason for it.
I love my house. I am blessed. God has always taken care of me.
I will post several other videos to share my story of how Mrs Powell chose me. I need to think about what the right message to share that honors her and the situation.
I will share though, when I began to look for a house, I wanted the experience to be a meaningful one. I had heard and seen how ugly people can get when they get into escrow. By way of asking for unnecessary repairs and such.
When I opened escrow, I sent Mrs Powell yellow roses. Why did I do this? Yellow roses for friendship. She was leaving her house going back to Grand Rapids Iowa, where she was born and raised. I wanted to make the experience a good for her.
Her new place was not going to be available for a month or so. So I allowed her to stay in the house post the COE, rent free. This meant that I had to move out of my condo, when I closed on my condo. It was a slight inconvenience but so worth it for me. It was the right thing to do.
Mrs Powell and her husband were the second owners of the house. Although, technically, they were the first owners. The original owner was a Navy officer who had bought the house as an investment. Janet and her house rented it. Then the owner gave them first choice to buy the home.
So I was technically the second owner of this house which was built in 1947.
    Stay tuned more to share.

My home is precious to me because it is mine. Nobody else's. Coming from a home where I was raised and still in my grandfathers name. And my last Aunt alive have given up her rights of ownership to her husband who pretty much is trying to get the house. You appreciate ones own home.
