    Newbie question here. I currently either use a usb mic into my computer or a wireless lav mic connected to my camera. What is the benefit of switching to XLR and the rodecaster pro?

    • @JaredSpink
      @JaredSpink  Год назад +1

      There are a wider array of better mic's that are XLR, and an interface like the rodecaster allows you to manage multiple audio sources like a couple of mics, music, sound effects, audio from an internet call or phone call. Most computers only allow you to hook up one USB mic so if you need multiple mic's that can make things difficult. Though Rode does have a program that allows you to use more than one USB mic but it's only with specific USB mics of theirs. But if you're only using one mic, there are a ton of great options now, even combo mics that are both usb and XLR, that way if you expand your setup, you're future proof. I'd suggest going and checking out @tombuck he has a lot of great videos on the subject.

    The only bad thing I can see when it comes to ECamm Live is the stutter that happens every 10 to 15 seconds or so, which makes it look like something is wrong with the shutter speed of the camera (picture gets jittery and skips frame).
    I am assuming this is happening because of the processing it is doing on the fly. Other than that...seems like a robust program if you are rocking MacOS.

    • @JaredSpink
      @JaredSpink  2 года назад

      Could be a number of things. Lack of processing power from the computer, wrong frame rate/shutter speed between camera and capture card, wrong frame rate setting in ecamm, just to name a few.

    One thing id mention is that most listeners don't have the proper audio equipment to distinguish from a $400 mic to a $150 option as long as they both are XLR. To hear the very small changes youd have to wear pretty expensive headphones that support the bit rate. The sm7b is the apple of microphones and there are better and cheaper alternatives. One thing i dont like about it is the flimsy XLR connection. also the "mic" portion of the microphone is a $20 unit. Its not worth the $400 price tag and yes audio engineers love it but 99% of the population wont care as in they lack the hardware to actually hear the "full" capabilities of this mic. Better of getting the Rode Pod mic for $100 and a arm for around $50 giving you alot of room to get a audio interface xlr cables and anything else you need. Unless youre recording studio grade audio its a waste of $400 that is better used else where in this hobby. This '"needing the best of everything" is so disingenuous. What makes a good podcast is the content and you. In todays world there are hundreds of avenues to take to get to where you want to be. Also for the people in the comments alot of time they dont have to buy this equipment cause they get sponsored or something else. Ive watched literally over 100 videos on starting a podcast while i wait for my microphone and the most common thing is that the equipment the people are recording on is supplied to them for free. Most of the people who repeat that the SM7b is great mic but dont know why its a great microphone they just repeat what they hear and display it as fact. Yeah its a great microphone if price wasn't a factor but it is and they are far better mics for that price hence the "Apple" of mics.
    Edit: I said all of this before he talked about the budget option but it still stands as far as buying these "top" tier options and doing proper research on these products. For instance you could get the stream deck which depending on the one you get is well over $200 or you could get the Novation Launchpad and get a grid of 8*8 buttons with 8 pages so you get 512 buttons to map that are also RGB.
