    As much as “Succession” deserves all the love, I’d really love to see Pedro and Bella win the SAG for “The Last of Us”. They just both did an incredible job, and Pedro has been working for over 20 years in Hollywood-he deserves some recognition!

    Poor things missing ensemble means Oppenheimer is likely winning best picture

    • @rhythmoriented
      @rhythmoriented 6 месяцев назад +5

      Yes. While watching Poor Things and many times since I’ve thought of Poor Things as this year’s The Shape of Water, an auteur directed, female-led fantastical allegorical adult fairy tale that would likely miss SAG ensemble. The difference is that the chief competition was 3BB, and Poor Things is going up against an incredible cinematic achievement expected to win big above AND below the line.

    This year’s awards race reminds me so much of the 2019 awards race. Genuinely great blockbusters competing against small, indie films and genre films was a great time. Seeing Black Panther be a legitimate front runner back in 2019 is like Barbie now. A genuinely great blockbuster competing against smaller films then throw in Oppenheimer and we have one of the strongest years in films possibly since 2018/2019.

    One thing i dont understand and maybe its just the phrasing, but it seens like when you're (mostly Chris) discussing the Emmy, it serms like youre thinking of switching your vote or predictions because of current times, not the energy going on Months ago when the votes were cast. Stick to what you had Especially when it cones to Succession. Succession was Much hotter than The Last of Us when votes were cast.

    Glad that SAG decided to be a little radical and pick a few different nominees. The critics choice need to pick at least 3 different winners for the top 6 prizes than what the Golden Globes did.

      All SAG type of nominees. Nothing radical at all. It’s so predictable that Sandra Huller didn’t get in (being international) and Sterling K Brown did (tv actor).

    I dont understand why nominations for actors that arent in box office hits should matter. Its about the acting.There are many actors who were nominated in films that werent huge box office successes (Nyad, Holdovers. Killer Moon, Poor Things, etc) So Why is Color Purple noted so much for its box office performance?

    • @neomohoto8861
      @neomohoto8861 6 месяцев назад

      I couldn’t agree more. I think there is a unique pressure that Black films face when awards season starts. The box office needs to be good, the films needs to be perfect, the story needs to be a certain way… meanwhile you have films who hardly get any of those things be awards contenders. This double standard is crazy. Like TCP made over 50mil, that’s still good.

    For Color Purple chances stating box office whoas as a reason it wont make best picture I dont think is a good reason. There are other movies that have great chances for best picture with bad box office. With that said, with the attitudes of critics I dont think it has a chance.

    Also for context. They had Cynthia Erivo get in for her terrible portrayal because it was Oscar bait, weak film. They genuinely did like the song and she got bonus points. But it was easier for voters to vote for her over Lupita Nyong'o in US because of the Academys bias against horror. Cynthia took a spot that shoulda went to Lupita or even Alfre Woodard for her brilliant but underseen performance in Clemency. So she got in bc especially with #Oscarssowhite she was the safer and lazier choice. Rememeber Erivo was the only colored actor despite how Jennifer Lopez and Awkwafina and Lupita had immaculate acclaim for their performances. Erivo is also a terrible person and Ironically racist Brit who used Harriet to further her career at the expense of the Black American community.

    • @SS4Luxray
      @SS4Luxray 6 месяцев назад +4

      THANK YOU!!!! I’ve always said Cynthia should’ve NEVER gotten that Oscar nomination when Lupita and Alfre gave far better performances in much better films. Also, JLo not getting in for Hustlers in Supporting Actress was complete popularity bias by voters against JLo.
