This video provides thorough instructions and is EXACTLY what we did to shorten 3 blinds from 48" to 26" in about 30 minutes. Excellent job, thank you!
It's not as easy as you would think to shorten a cellular blind, so I'm glad I watched the video and I learned a lot. Miche Hacks explained it slowly so I was able to do the job but watch at the same time. Thank you for the video. CG
Needed to do some zooming in on what you were doing. Basically couldn't see a thing. And I agree with the others on here, why bother taking anything off the length of the string?!? 6 inches??
Hello I know this is an old video. Info was just what I was looking for. When you used these on your skylight. Did you use a track? How did you get them to stay in place? Did they sag? If you could send a picture how you attached them would be awesome.
I'm curious... You said that in theory you should only need half as much string, but you like to keep it long so you're only removing 6" of string. Why remove any string at all? Couldn't you just tie the knot in the same spot if excess string is ok? The factory mechanism worked fine with the full length of string originally.
Good point. The problem you are trying to solve by shortening the string is that the fully retracted blind consumes an inch or two less string than it did before you shortened it. In theory, then, you would only need to shorten the string by two inches to make it open as well as it did before the mod.
Invisible Black Dot Photography is from 3 feet away - so no fine details visible... Lighting also was limited during minutes 2-3 - so appears that the video freezes during your talk about measurement ... Not clear that you measured and cut from the top or bottom of the blind. (aka did you keep the bottom 1/2 and remove the top half - or vise-versa). You wanted the final length to be xx inches - so you cut at xx+3 inches - correct... (leaving it longer than minimum. No details on how the knot was tied, or where the black dot was - guessing it should be in a consistent location/knot on both sides.
I agree this video was hard to follow. The work done was not in the center of the video and too far. I lost track when he was sliding in the plastic flat pieces to guide the thread thoigh and an explaination would be helpful. Beautiful wood table and stove though!! LOL

Thanks for this video. Your directions on sliding the plastic along to gather and re-string was genius.

Great Job! Very helpful. Thank you very much.
I still don't understand why you only subtracted 6 inches
Love the video, thanks!!
thank you. great video

Great video. I have the opposite problem. I have a skylight that is nearly 3 metres long. Have you tackled putting two lengths together?
Use a crochet hook instead of the corn cob prong to catch the string ;)
or small tweezers?

What brand of shades do you have? (Great video by the way!)
Bali from Home Depot. They had a crazy sale on these but they were all 72in in length.

Fully retracted as in fully down? Would the same principle apply to faux wood blinds?
Hmm, mine have the little button on the bottom section. My search continues.

Hopefully neither of you attempted this if you needed to be spoon fed more detailed instructions 😂
Painful.
I couldn't hear a dam word you were saying. thumbs down.
Do NOT use this method!!
and why?
What a comment. I few words on why not would be good. Unless you work for a shade sales or manufacturing company. ;)
