  • I recently started Slot car racing with a local club. We race 1/32 and 1/24 scale slot cars on various tracks.
I realized pretty quick that it was a difficult hobby to break into, I didn't know some of the lingo, where to buy my parts, or how to best spend my money.
These two videos are an attempt to help people get up to speed in the world of slot car racing and tuning.
I thoroughly enjoy the hobby and hope this will help others make the first steps to getting into it as well.

Pretty good two part series you’ve made. One small correction would be that sidewinder cars have the best characteristics for changing direction (chicanes etc), and in-line configurations are actually the most common.
Alan’s a good guy, met him in 2018 when he came to the UK. Enjoy your racing!

My friends: I've watched 3 of Zach's videos and they are among the best - if not THE best - nuts-and-bolts intro videos on slot cars I've seen.
Zach has the knack! It will pay to watch them.

Great video. I've been racing slot cars for years but with big gaps. Now just race at home. Keep up the great content. Subscribed.

Biggest benefit to anglewinder is to achieve a low gear ratio for max speed 👍

Have you ever tried spraying a corner of a cloth with CARBY CLEANER and rubbing the rear tyres with wetted section, it deglazes the tyre and for me makes a big difference in the handling !!! Your comment will be appreciated,
I only true a wheel once as it removes rubber reducing life and rolling circumference
I also use carby cleaner to clean brushes, one must however be careful not to allow carby cleaner to touch bodywork

My club runs Scalextric cars only and has a GT3 class. I was not impressed with my McLaren 12c GT3 out of the box( could be me, newbie) I was impressed with a fellow racers ( experienced) Mercedes GT3 out of the box, My chassis might be warped, maybe the screws too tight, one front tire not flush? Guide pin not deep enough( compared to other Scalextric), found a spacer that might help?( not tested yet) Thanks for video👍👍

@@Epiphany-cl7fe These cars should stick pretty good with the magnets in place. One thing that can help is to re-string the braids on the guide so that it can sit deeper into the slot. I will try and get a video up asap about how to do this on the stock guide.
Remember that without borders on your track, if the car gets sideways at all in the corner you are likely to come off because of the outside tire dropping off the edge of the track. Borders are a great upgrade to any track.
