  • Today we are making Cranberry Orange Scones made with fresh milled flour. At first, when I was receiving requests for scones, I was a bit discouraged, because most scones I had in my past were dried out, and literally quite tasteless. But, after a lot of requests, I decided to hunker down and start experimenting with scones. Well, I am so glad that I did, because these fresh milled flour cranberry orange scones are amazing!

    I love that you show and tell the things that didn't go perfectly so we can learn why things work and how to improve issues we might encounter when trying to convert other recipes. I love scones and will definitely be trying these. I'm team Crispy Edges!

    Oh! They look delicious! 😅 I just bought caramel oranges… I don’t have hard white wheat yet, so I think I will use Red Fife! Thank you so much!

    I think I'll make these tomorrow, I waited all day today for my Ankarsrum to arrive only to check my tracking number and find that the delivery had been updated from today to "we will update your delivery date as soon as possible". I think I need something sweet to make me feel better.

      Awwww man! I am guessing delayed because of all the crazy weather around the US this past week. I hope it gets there soon! Let me know how the scones turn out! Happy Baking!

      They turned out great. I separated mine and they still rose, I think next time I'll flatten them a bit more. About the wait, yes, I'm sure it's due to the weather, I just wanted to whine and get some sympathy.😂 Thank you for all your wonderful recipes and videos, you have helped me so much in my FMF journey. @@GrainsInSmallPlaces

    If I add a teaspoon of Orange extract, would I still also use the vanilla extract? I have dried cranberries, so l think I will soak them overnight with a Tablespoon of rum.

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  9 месяцев назад +1

      You could do both extracts, or one or the other. That would be to taste preference. Ohhh soaked cranberries sound lovely!

    I would love to make this recipe with yogurt is it one to one to sub for the buttermilk?

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  7 месяцев назад

      You can sub it one for one, but if the yogurt is thick, I would thin it with a bit of water first, but not a ton. Let me know how they turn out! Happy Baking!

    Where in Florida? I’m on Punta Gorda. It’s been so rainy lately, but I usually say I’m in sunny SWFla and use my hashtag #ilivewhereyouvacation 😂

    I can’t afford to buy the more expensive ancient grains. Single 54 year old 😁. Do you have other suggestions? I have a nutritionist mill ( so grateful they let me pay in installments)❤. My kids bought me a large bucket of soft white wheat berries and I bought hard white wheat from pleasant hill. Suggestions for all purpose without ancient grains?❤

      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you can just do half soft white and half hard white! Let me know how they turn out! Happy Baking!

    I have a bottle of blood orange infused olive oil. Do you think I could use 1/2 of that in place of 1/2 of the butter?

    • @BeckyScottandDeviHenn
      @BeckyScottandDeviHenn 9 месяцев назад

      I realize it is the butter that makes it flakey, so maybe not?

    • @GrainsInSmallPlaces
      @GrainsInSmallPlaces  9 месяцев назад +1

      You could probably get away with using half that with half butter, but it might not give quite as big of a rise. Let me know how it goes.
