Masato's grandpa was the entire airforce here! Masato brought Yayoi to him to try and make her stronger so she'll givd up, but his grandpa turned that around to make Yayoi even more dedicated to Masato. And after all of this an heir was born born to take over the Dojo. Props to the grandpa for securing the future of his Dojo and helping Masato get a girlfriend in Yayoi.

To be fair, the basketball dude is on a team-sport where he specifically needed to do well _on his own._ That was a losing formula. She has too much pride, though, and while Judo _does_ have a team if one dojo is pitted against another, it can still be done in one-on-one bouts at a competitive level. And because she was undefeated, she never thought there would come a day for her to open up to a guy.
The reason it's not the same, though, is that while he can be seen as stubbornly pursuing out of self-interest (and pursuing poorly), she sees him as her legitimate "better" after the fight. She allowed herself to come to terms with how wrong she was...
... that being said, because "senpai" was the most recent guy who tried and failed at declaring their intent at pursuing a relationship, he MIGHT have inspired the pig-headed maneuver Yayoi tried using on Masato, which still ended up the same way. There's a lot of content that amounts to:

At the start of the story, a guy keeps trying to date Yayoi. She is disgusted at his continuous attempts after being told "no" and "never", and is pissed at it.
The very next day, she proceeds to DO THE SAME THING TO ANOTHER GUY WHO KEEPS TELLING HER NO, but because she's a girl, everyone else says he should give in and give her what she wants.
Like don't get me wrong I have willing suspension of disbelief for these romcom mangas where this kinda stuff is portrayed as cute and all... but that woman is a complete hypocrite, and gives me a bad taste. If you literally weren't doing the SAME THING that you were annoyed someone else was doing to you within 2 minutes of the story, I'd feel different. But nah, she's a massive red flag.

Plot Twist:
The heir to the dojo was actually borne from Yayoi and Masato's grandfather after Masato repeatedly rejected Yayoi despite all of her efforts to win his heart.
Poor boy, he lost his father too young, and his mother has become a "cuckoo" and abandoned him for another man. It is understandable that he has become cold towards girls because he doesn't trust them around his mother, when I was his age I was in a similar situation, although I was too young to know the truth about my parents having split up, although my mother was around , it hurt me that she was no longer with our father and was not around when we especially needed her, that at some point I began to hate her and not tolerate the opposite sex, that there was even a moment when I did not want to sit in the same place with them. Such traumas are difficult to heal, especially when you have them from childhood, it takes a lot of time and effort for a person to overcome them and move on.
I hope that one day his mother will realize her mistake and possibly try to come back to apologize to him for all the pain she has caused him so far and finally he will judge her for her irresponsibility and teach her a lesson that she has not to forget while she is still alive. 😔👨👩👦➖👩👦➖👦😡😠😤

Story Idea:
An adult woman (FMC) receives a wedding invitation from her childhood friend and her first love(MMC) who she hasn’t heard from since high school. The reason why they cut contact was that she was a tsundere that teased yet loved him, but he finally had enough and stopped talking to her. She tried to talk to him but he always ignored her like she didn’t exist. He then left to a university far from her and now she learns that he’s getting married. After the wedding, she goes home heartbroken that because of her attitude she lost her first love. When she falls asleep she wakes up back in her high school days, before he cut contact with her. Taking an advantage of this event she vows to change her attitude to become a better person and to not lose her first love again.
