    • @EdSharpener

      Hello Akshata, Once you go for PhD there are many options like, working in research Labs and Working as a professor. (Not lecturer). Although in India, the Education industry is sick. Its very toxic. I know all industries are. But I would request you to reconsider your thoughts about PhD. Just be sure of what you are getting into. PhD is usually toiling and a test of your character. Instead for now, you can upgrade your skills and change jobs so that you feel more challenged. Go for PhD only if you are obsessed with clear research goals you have.

    Sir, one more thing to ask, today I have received offer from IIT Kanpur for MS in Design Engineering ( Not M.Des), but sir I have accepted the Computational Mechanics at IIT Guwahati in COAP Round 5. So, should I choose IIT Kanpur MS over M.Tech at IIT Guwahati?? Does MS or M.Tech at IIT Kanpur get equal opportunities for both core and non core sectors?

    • @EdSharpener
      @EdSharpener  4 года назад

      Hi Pinku, according to me if you are looking at Job prospects more than research aspect of a engineering stream, Go for M-Tech instead of MS. If we look at the opportunities , yes MS and M-Tech at many institutions get equal opportunities to appear for Interviews, For core and non core. Does that answer your questions?

    • @pinkugoswami6581
      @pinkugoswami6581 4 года назад

      @@EdSharpener yes sir, as Computatational mechanics is rated lower than design in mechanical branch, since I got Computational Mechanics at IIT G, I mailed to the authorities regarding the upgradation but replied if there will be any vacant then only be there upgradation ( because in later rounds the gate score equal to mine got the design at IIT G). So, my doubt is as I am getting design at IIT K (MS) but lower specialization at IIT G( M.Tech) so it is favourable for me to go at lower specialization if there is no upgradation. Also in IIT Kanpur MS is 2 years for mechanical engineering specialization.

      Hi Zeeshan, professors usually have big projects going on, and many PhD students already work on that, as M-Tech projects the parts of these projects can be floated in by professors. Usually they take interviews of students when you apply for a particular guide and a particular project. Or else you can also present your own project to a professor and if they like your project and if they have tools. You can always go ahead with your own idea!

      Hello Micky, Never lie in the interviews. If you prepared for an exam and thus have a gap, explain to the recruiters the same. Whenever you get an opportunity of an interview, they will do it looking at many other things, and study gap wont matter in lots of scenarios. I do know few people who did have a study gap but eventually fared well in interviews. the thing is , are you ready to start as a fresher, with younger people than you? , Be optimistic and Focus on your strengths!!

    Sir I am doing BTech in Instrumentation Engineering from a tier 2 govt. college. My institute has good research output and faculties are all well qualified ( PhD+post doc degree holders with good research experience). My final goal is to do PhD from USA but before that, should I go for a MTech (research) or MTech in IISc Bangalore to strengthen my profile considering that I already have 2/3 research papers published in top journals during my BTech. Or should I directly apply for MS/PhD in foriegn universities? Also if I do a MTech from IISc will it increase my chances of getting in a top university in USA for PhD? I want to do PhD in Electrical or Computer Science Engineering but I just want to make sure that I get an admit from top 20 univ. in USA. Sir your guidance will gr8ly help. Thanks a lot!

      I think going for IISc sounds better for your objective, of going for PhD in US. you will have to perform well and gather good recommendations in your M-Tech. So any IIT is good if you want go for PhD abroad.
      Indian professors do pursue good students for PhD in their umbrella. So, that could be a challenge. But not to worry. So try to go for pure M-Tech in India and then apply for PhD. Although if you enough capital, and can cope with GRE, you can prioritize going for MS in US. That will broaden your perspective
