    This is called a capacitive discharge. It doesnt "drain the juice out of everything", it resets all of the modules in the car by forcing them to essentially go to sleep, and come back when you disconnect the connection. We do this at Subaru as part of the diagnostic process.

    • @robinbrynjones
      @robinbrynjones 4 месяца назад +1

      I mean the description was explaining in layman terms. Capacitive dischage - removing the juice, yeah I instantly thought that when he explained it like that. Capacitors essentially hold electrical energy so he did remove the juice from the system.

    Or you could just run a wire from positive to negative connections without being connected to battery. Make sure battery is disconnected and turn on your headlights, that will drain power out of capacitors. Thx

The car dropped and I have replaced both rear airbags and sensors and the entire compressor system. Started the car and nothing happens the rear just sags. Would this type of reset work? I recall this happening one and a shop put the car on their computer and the reset the system restoring the ride height of the vehicle. Any thoghts? Thank you

When I flip the switch to go into accessory 2 it won't go it just goes into accessory one. It will crank but not start none of my dash lights come on. All the lights that come on in accessory 2. According to the BMW mechanics SHOP MANUAL . BECAUSE OF ALL THE DIFFERENT SENSORS THIS UNSAFE TO DO. RUN A DIAGNOSTICS ON THE ENTIRE SYSTEM AND YOU SHOULD FIND YOUR DRAIN IS USUALLY COMMING FROM THE COMFORT ACCESS. OR THE FOOT WELL MODUAL

    • @Jay-May

      In this case it was the alternator, bad diodes caused the battery to drain while not running.
      No amount of Diagnostics could have found this, After the hard reset I had no problems, and had to either pull fuses to see if the amperage dropped, or get the volt meter and test components manually.

    I probably need to give this a shot myself with my 2014 BMW X. I cant sseem to diagnose the issues ita been throwing at me. Im thinking it's probably the DME/ECU but there's many different things that could be wrong because there's a lot with the same symptoms m High Pressure Fuel Pump, knock sensors, cam sensors, mass Air Flow, Map sensor the list goes on. Maybe this will buy me some time.

      Get a good scan tool. I'll be doing a video on what I use and it's a good starting point for diagnostic tools besides the laptop software or a GT1.

    N47 116d had a 4b90 low rail pressure on start and only getting 150-250ish bar fluctuating at rail so changed hpfp (cp4.1) cam follower and pump head which gives me 400bar at rail now but still no start. Only get 0.3v signal on rail pressue sensor with ignition on and increases to 0.8v on crank, 5v and ground are good. The rail pressure drops away almost instantly too.
    Does the dde need a reset, faulty sensor. Thoughts please really appreciated.

    Just for people wondering what he did , your connecting the two cables pos & eg that go to the battery , but doing it whilst unplugged from the battery , he only had to remove the negative cable from the battery to achieve this , so had 1 jumper cable connecting these two pos & neg cables together drains g the system , you don’t do this whilst both connected to the battery unless you want a flash & bang 😮, also only disconnect the negative terminal cable first as if you do the positive it can blow sensors

    Why you need to research issues before taking hearsay as gospel. When you have to change a battery in the MW X5 (from 2005 with E53 or N62 chassis but pretty well any BM after 2002) it is important that you update the ECU to register the change. The main reason for this is because the ECU stores electric energy which varies from the battery power. Registering a new battery also updates the computer controlled alternator. If you do not do it, you may set in motion the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) / Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). Not doing a battery reset may cause other problems like shortening your battery life or in the worst case, damage other electrical components. And that will cost you BIG-TIME.

    • @Jay-May
      @Jay-May  Год назад +1

      I agree, registration of the battery is important and I did that. This was one of many things I checked. In this case the problem was actually the diodes in the alternator, the gates wouldn't shut and drained the battery.
      I have a video about parasitic drain and how to test the alternator to make sure your alternator is good.

    Is that on the positive side

    • @Jay-May
      @Jay-May  2 года назад

      Your looking to make a connection between the negative and positive battery cables while they are off the battery. I used jumper cables because the battery cables would not reach each other.

    Those are jumping cables right? If so, the 2 negative ends of the jumping cables how should they rest out?

    • @Jay-May
      @Jay-May  2 года назад +1

      So in this case, your looking to connect the negative for the battery and the positive for the battery with a wire to make a connection to drain the capacitors. I used the negative side of the jumper cables to make this connection, the positive side of the jumper cables aren't used.

    I just replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor. I was told I need to reset my computers for the replacement to activate or something. Would this work on my 04 530i

    • @Jay-May
      @Jay-May  3 года назад +1

      This will work to reset, but with a camshaft sensor it should pick up immediately that it's been replaced. Resetting the computer would only remove the fault code for the sensor, which wouldnt effect the way the car runs

    • @lickmybaws
      @lickmybaws 3 года назад +1

      You’ll need an obd connector to reset your computer and fault codes

    • @Jay-May
      @Jay-May  3 года назад

      @@lickmybaws a simple obd reader will give you general faults, but getting INPA or something similar will further diagnose what the actual problem is

    • @lickmybaws
      @lickmybaws 3 года назад +1

      I meant in general if it’s a stored fault code any OBD scanner can reset it. It doesn’t give specific INPA data but it will clear them if they’re only there for a previous fault that’s now fixed.
