This is a second video that shows another way of approaching 'french-seams with piping' using a single needle pfaff 1245-706...what I have done is recreate what a 'twin needle sewing machine' with special feet do this job...definetely, this machine with special 'french-seams piping feet' would do a better job. I would like this design for a next 'bucket seat project' in a combination of alcantara and leather materials.
In video one, I showed the 'tip' of cutting off some excess of leather piping strip and I think I would go with this former method...things become easier to sew.
I want to add that to facilitate the procedure it was necessary to do some modifications/cuts/sanding of presser feet, and I believe that if you are planning on doing this design I would advise you to buy an extra foot to modify it.
In next video I will show another piping tips.

Judging by the sound you have a friction motor on your machine. I just can't understand how you are able to sew stitch by stitch. The first thing I did on my old Pfaff 146 is get rid of the friction motor and install a servo motor. I now also have a modern Global 3955-45 with a built in servo motor. Thank God. And thank YOU for two excellent videos. I really needed the inspiration for my boat cushions.
Definitely a servo motor is the best to keep control of speed. But in the meantime I did some tricks:

+B Galvan Me parece bien y creo que el método mas simple es el que se muestra en el video anterior... queda también fuerte y se facilita la costura...no hay que olvidar que se tiene que adaptar el 'presser foot' para que se desplaze por cada costado del 'piping'...esto significa comprar unas 'patitas' extra para este trabajo.

What size piping do you use and do you use the same size welting foot as piping . Thanks again for clinic show casing your vast knowledge of upholstery muchly appreciated.
I usually use a 1/8" of an inch(3mm approx.)Ø The piping foot is slightly wider considering the thickness of vinyl or leather. We could add 2 mm more for both vinyl edges. A total of 5 mm (7/32") approx

I was confused the shots of darts on gray fabric...then piping examples...without verbals I wondered what the point was. Still watching, and unsure what stage we are in, or where we are going. That said, as far as piping... I have found making the piping ( with the cover material over a small coil piping, get a FOOT that is larger than the actual piping, and sew your strip length. use this foot for topstitching to one side of a cushion. Then when you are sewing the top cushion to the boxing, change the piping foot to the smaller" true fit" of your piping. Most likely, the 1/8th difference in stitches will be masked or " closer stitched with the actual fitted foot, and make for a tight clean finished stitch when turned inside out. to sum up... You will need two piping feet sizes, one looser to create the piping and attaching it to one cushion side as a "tack", and the actual size foot for a tight stitch, when joining the cushion together with the boxing, which will snug tighter to the piping edge and hide the first stitches using the looser piping foot. Don't try to stitch it all together with the tight foot... around corners etc, yo will only suffer... do all steps and the result will be professional.,, and NOTCH where needed.

138 is not a needle size it's a type of needle, most professional machine Pfafff, Durkop, Juki ... are 138 type
I see you run the thread around the pin at the tentioner. The phaff manual shows not to but it's working for you. I ran it around it for the first few year until I got the manual. I have a 545 h4. It's all in how you use the tool.

Este pegamento de poliuretano los usan mucho los fabricantes de zapatos. Cualquier zapatero le puede informar donde comprarlo. Las marcas son diferentes en cada país pero el efecto es el mismo. Yes, it reinforces the 'double stitches' to avoid any deformation of the sewings. This 'reinforcement' helps to maintain the 'double stitches' paralell.

In this video, you are stitching on a spare piece of leather prior to each of the actual pattern pieces. What is the purpose of that? are you just using it to check your stitch length and tension? Or is there some other purpose?
+John Crumpton Interesting question! ...you already answered the question: stitch length and tension. For instance, to prepare the 'piping strips', we should use a long stitch 4-5 mm... same long stitch at the time of attaching it to the edge of lateral panel...the idea is the use of long stitches to not weaken leather material. Now at the time of sewing the pieces together to get a tighter sewing, we should use shorter stitches 3 mm approx...not too short because of wakening the material.
TIP: to get cleaner and nicer 'closing seams', the 'piping strips' should be prepared/sewn/attached with a thinner thread(same color of material) and thin needle (110=18)(120=19). The last 'closing sewing' could be done with the standard thread and needle 140=22. This procedure would avoid the ugly thread clashing views sometimes appear.

I was wondering why you often sew on a piece of scrap before making your demonstration seams, is this to check that your machine is set right for tension?

+John Woolfrey Hello John, Yes, indeed! ...a free you tube video...not only one, maybe two or three related...the first video would be from the beginning consisting in dissasembling the old cover of the seat and do a description of how the bucket seat was done(foam, metallic frame, rails, listings, etc.) ...a second video would show the new design we want for the seat and a drawing on its foam...and so on...how to get the molds, transfering to leather material, etc.
But, before releasing this video we need to finish as soon as possible, our 'first course' for sale related to how to easily leather -wrap a steering wheel...we(my son and I) need to generate some little money to help supporting and increasing this channel.

+P Ron para piel generalmente se usa agujas que tengan la punta 'tipo espada''tipo cuña' para que sea mas fácil penetrar la piel... una aguja delgada para coser piel muy suave y mas gruesas para trabajo pesado en pieles gruesas. Para tela generalmente la punta de la aguja es 'redondeada'...por supuesto generalmente son agujas bien delgadas.

There is a first line of stitches that keeps attached the 'piping strip' along one edge. This same piece is then sewed to a lateral piece but with another line of stitches closer to the junction (1 mm approx) By doing this we would get a tighter sewing to avoid a clashing view of threads.

+Dave Sanderson Some stores sell a 'special light/thin webbing ribbon' useful as backing to do the french seams(they come in rolls) ...in case of not getting this material, it would be necessary to cut the strips 1 inch wide from 'thin canvas(plastic/fabric) material', 'denim fabric', 'thin vinyl', etc.

What kind of glue do you use. All of the suppliers that I have found seem to push spray, but I like the freedom of putting "dabs" where you want them.
its like a weldwood contact cement. I use it for my jobs, I get it at lowes. You can get the quart/pint or the little brown bottles ($5) with a brush on the cap for them little jobs here and there.

It's an extra 'standard pfaff feet', I especially bought it and was adapted for this purpose. I cut it by using a mototool with a 'small cutting disk'.

What modifications did you make to the feet and for what purpose?
I used an extra feet for this purpose. I only did a cut to one side of the feet lining them up to get a closer sewing to the piping.
Do you have a trick method for folding over a straight edge before sewing. I have tried both your glue method and the double stick tape, and they hold the edge but the edge still comes out wavy because of the stretch in the vinyl.
Perhaps you could diminish those 'waves' if you try with a 1 cm seam allowance/selvage.
Actually, on this case, I am only using a 1 cm seam. If I could find a stiff piece of something straight that I could fold over and still sew thru, it would work, but I can't think of anything.
Ted Mitchell , Hench the walking dog machine. Having the right machine is a must when sewing certain fabrics. Also the right attachments for the project you are trying to make. Professional sewers have alot of tools (e.g. machines, cutters, attachments...) and the skill to use them. Even after 40 years of experience in fabric construction I am still learning. People who put out these videos are teaching us years of experience and technique, which is a lost art to the many small businesses throughout the world. Large professional businesses don't share any trade secrets, nor do they want the competition.

Las máquinas que se están usando para tapcería de carros y muebles es la que le llaman de 'triple arrastre' o 'piés móviles'. Son máquinas de coser industriales para trabajo pesado. Deben coser con agujas desde 110=18 hasta mas de 180=24

+freakyflow Thanks for the video! ... it's getting nice...the 'distressed pig leather' gives a special look...you also leather-covered the small item where the door handle goes...the outcome is great....you still need to finish the complete big cover, don't you?
Becareful with the 'heat gun'...I think you do not need that...pig skin is very soft and pliable to maneuver, at the same time very strong leather...anyways, a heat gun is useful to erase wrinkles, but at some distance with a low heat.

+eric1234689 Cualquier 'pié de presión' standard sirve para hacer la 'costura doble'...este pié es para coser cierres...tiene la ventaja que nos da una visión mas amplia para ver las puntadas si es necesario...si no lo consigue, un pié normal se puede cortar con un mototool...para coser las puntadas que vemos en el video, o sea las que van unto al 'vivo' tuve que esmerilar un poco mas el ancho del pié mayor, para que así corriera con mayor libertad por los costados...no afecta en nada..es recomendable comprar patitas extras para hacerle estos cortes cuando uno ocupe coser algo especial.

Regularly, the strips are 3.5 to 4 cm wide. But, the ideal way is to determine the width by using the same material (thick, thin vinyl or leather) you are going to work with.
Some upholsterers use 1/2" of an inch allowance for their vinyl/leather pieces, consequently this allowance measure counts to determine the strip width.
I have two videos that hopefully would help. BTW, I am using the metric system 1 cm for my allowances.

@@johnlowry1385 I do not have a video, sorry. Not a big deal! By using a mototool with a small cutting disk I cut one of the toes of the small foot. it allows more visibility to needle point and marked line.
