Great video mate. Think Ideally I'd have Anscombe starting with Ben Thomas at 12 covering 10 if needed, then Dan Edwards in the wider squad for now. The thing that stood out for Edwards at u20s was his distribution, so think there's loads more to come from him at senior level. Think Costelow should consider that move to Leicester that's been rumoured- he needs to get out of Wales and get his confidence back
Cheers mate. Good to hear from you. Yeah he just seams like he’s a very quick learner and his development has been so rapid from the first time I saw him a couple of years ago it makes me excited and I really hope that he continues to progress because I think he’s got all a minerals for the top job As for Costellow. It’s sad to say but I kind of agree with you. I would hate to see him lost from the Wales squad because I do think he’s a very talented player. It really does seem that the pressure of the shit show that Welsh rugby has been over the last two years as really told on him, and maybe a change would benefit him🤷🏻♂️
Hi Christian, hope your well, Dan Edwards looks like a player who knows what hes doing I think he will be a good 10. But will still got some good No.10's Ben Thomas but plays well as centre but a good 10 if we need him there. Be good to see Gareth Anscome back at 10. I've always liked Callum Sheedy not a bad 10. As always good rugby reviews catch you soon take care
Yeah as long as everyone stays fit we have some options for a change. I’m just hoping Edwards eventually rises to the top to be better than the rest 🙏🏼 Cheers pal 🏴
The main flyhalves for Wales this autumn will be G.Anscombe and C.Sheedy I do feel that .Dan Edwards needs to be mentored and coached in the international set up As Wales current 3rd choice Because G.Anscombe has a really bad injury record and Wales may need a back up to C.Sheedy this autumn Of course the major problem Wales have to solve is getting a consistently international class pack That for me is the most pressing problem Gatland has to solve Because you can have the greatest backline in the world But if they receive no ball to play with they are just spectators
Yeah, completely agree with you, I think, have an Anscombe at 10 has the ability to put us on the front foot a bit more and I think this could help a pack which I certainly think is improving but we’re probably short of two props that are consistently performing at this level
Good chat Christian. Gatland will be juggling blooding new talent, team cohesion and, last but not least! getting a win!! Anscombe 1st choice obvs, then Sheedy, whose slightly inconsistent play can be ironed out no problem. If we’re getting quick ball from rucks, we need a good playmaker at 10, and Costelow needs to show better form for Scarlets than we’ve seen so far this season
Thank you, yeah, basically agree with everything you’ve said, I think sheedy is the next natural successor, but I just think Edwards ceiling is so much higher and we should be developing him as early as possible🏴
We need to set our stall out and give someone the jersey so they are ready for the World Cup in a few years. I’d have him learning from chicken the next few squads. We are desperate for a good and sold 10 would be nice to have someone with a bit of fair too! Can always put Ben Thomas outside him at 12 too. Good ball playing back line!
@@TheWelshSportsPodcast I like that Macs Page too!! Don’t think he’s the biggest lad but super talented! I’d do my best to keep Grady on the wing, he’s played well for Cardiff and is coming in more looking for work. I think eventually he could come into 13 but cutting his teeth on the wing could be beneficial.
Yeah that’s fair. For me it would depend on Josh adams fitness and form. Would hesitate to leave him out as he’s one of our few experienced players. I dunno 🤔
Great video mate!!! Personally I don't rate Costelow or Sheedy and Ben Thomas just isn't a 10 so for me it has to be Anscombe to start and play the majority of minutes at 10 with Thomas at 12 and Dan off the bench. I also think it would be worth taking a look at Reuben Morgan-Williams off the bench with Tomos starting at 9. That way you have the Gloucester and Ospreys partnerships at 9-10 going into the Wales team too.
I like Ellis Bevan but I rate RMW more and having him and Dan on the bench is building a partnership for the future. I was really struggling today to put together a 23 I'd like to see in the autumn but at least for once I know the 9-10 combos I'd like
For me right now it would the Gloucester 9 and 10 of Tomos Williams and Anscombe with Ben Thomas in his correct position at 12 and then 13 maybe Grady but I still think he is a winger. This is why it would be great for Wales to actually have an A team because that is exactly where this sort of young player can be tested at a higher level before making the full Wales team.
That’s who I would start too but I’d like to give Edwards some time off the bench maybe against the Aussies for him to dip his toes and feet the step up in pace Love the idea of an A team, I think we would benefit to no end from having one. All about finances though I guess which is annoying
I would personally give him more time I think the 6 nations would be more beneficial for him he's doing OK at the moment let him build momentum. For Autumn 1st choice - G.Andscombe 2nd - sheedy 3rd - Ben Thomas (I would use him at 12 but cover 10 aswell. Costellow knows the level required but desperate for more experience , once he's winning games with the scarlets he will mature into a fine 10 for Wales. Dan Edwards and Sam costellow could contend with each other for the 10 spot in the near future BUT they need to be winning more games at club level to build thier confidence and realise thier potential
I think that’s a fair assessment mate. I usually would like to give him more time I just worry if Anscombe goes down with an injury he’s going to have had no experience. I dunno I like the points you make though
Real difficult one for me! I would say Anscombe is nailed on and would of said Sheedy as 2nd choice but after watching his all round game from the stands against Glasgow where he was awful, ive got a feeling that it could be Costellow! Dont think Gatts will ask Edwards to step up yet
Hard to argue with your logic. Agreed he’s a bit young yet and you’re probably right he sticks with Costellow but it hard to argue that Edwards is the form 10 in wales Anscombe apart of corse
I am impressed with Dan Edward’s, he has a confidence that I like. He looks like a number 10. I like Ben Thomas but why play him at 10 when he is playing well at centre?
At 33 Anscombe's career is coming to an end. Start a younger 10 like Dan Edwards with a footballing 12 like Ben Thomas. Theve got to start some time and get some continuity back in the team.
I think I would resist the temptation to start him just yet. I’m just bring him off the bench for the last 10 minutes of again just to dip his toes but I wholeheartedly agree about the continuity as we haven’t built up many partnerships so far with all the new caps and all the tinkering of the starting lineup
I don't think he needs to be pushed straight into international rugby. he's very talented he's progressing well. but I think mabey he gets capped this summer but I think it may almost damage him to put him in the deep end under that much pressure of being in a 10 jersey for wales right now. I think to okay him to soon would be almost setting him up to fail. would like to see him in the squad to learn from the likes of anscombe.
Yeah, that’s fair enough. I wouldn’t be mad if he got called into the squad didn’t actually play completely take your point about pushing him too early. I just think he’s very mature for such a young player and I just think you’ll be able to deal with the pressure so maybe let him dip his toes at the end of one or two games this autumn. I have to say, though I don’t think it will happen. I think Gatland will continue to use Ben Thomas as 10 cover
@@TheWelshSportsPodcast my worry if we go down the route of having flashy little backs it will be a little like watching Cardiff or scarlets paper thin defence, seen it all before 👍

Since he slotted that drop goal against Ulster last season I’ve thought he needed to be in the Welsh set up. He’s a big game big moment player!
Yeah incredible set of balls of steel to be fair 😂 That’s what makes me think he’s got what it takes at the top
Great video mate. Think Ideally I'd have Anscombe starting with Ben Thomas at 12 covering 10 if needed, then Dan Edwards in the wider squad for now. A long time since Wales had a 10 prospect as good as Dan Edwards. Usually you'd go with experience but there is no-one.
Yeah that’s my thoughts on it exactly. Outside of Anscombe the quality drops significantly
I am impressed with Dan Edward’s, he has a confidence that I like. He looks like a number 10. I like Ben Thomas but why play him at 10 when he is playing well at centre?

I’d probably agree. Any maybe put Edwards on the bench for one of the games to get experience

Should have picked kieran meek
Sold club player but can’t see him stepping up at this point in his career
I think Grady is over rated sadly,he’s had plenty of time now to prove himself hope I’m rong , looking for another Jamie Robert’s
Tbh I don’t think a Roberts type is what we need. I think we need a footballer at 12 to take the burden off 10
