  • Sky Children of the Light is a game engineered to bring out the best in humanity. It's systems push you to talk to others, to guide them and foster friendships. Linking arms with someone and soaring over it's green matted hills and creamy white clouds will make you feel like you're in a fleeting... vivid dream. When you see others online you'll light up with joy, exchange a hug and go frolicking for candle light and increased flying power.

i definitely love the fact that we can't chat with someone instantly. which means when we can finally interact its usually cause we want to put more effort into knowing the person or willing to help them, etc. Compared to other games, where people can talk whenever, having a chat barrier also helps decrease unwanted or rude interactions i think.

Completely agree. I hate playing some games and just seeing the wall of text on the left of the screen with half of it being an argument or racial slurs. My first playthrough i had no idea how the mechanics of the game functioned at all so i didnt know how to even access chat unless you sat with someone at a table.

I’ve been playing for 4 years now and it has made me so happy. I’ve made real friends and we talk outside of the game. In game, my friends and I can talk about stuff that has bothered us emotional wise and whatnot. Not only is the environment peaceful (besides waste and Eden), the music is gentle but grand. I end up stopping my runs to help others who need to open doors or have had their light knocked out of them by the krill, but my favorite thing about it is seeing my moths grow. I greatly enjoy teaching friends to fly at the citadel (my favorite place in the whole kingdom) because the constant updraft allows them to understand gliding and soaring much easier. I can’t recommend it enough

i think ive logged at least 1,600+ hours on sky playing every day since i joined during mid shattering season. Journey is my first love from TGC - It took me through some heavy times, where I would just play it over and over for comfort.
Sky feels less personal, but I suffer from anxiety and insomnia. Logging in to just have something stable in like life like candle running or seeing familiar comforting scenery is equally as helpful to me as Journey is. And when I hear the notification of a friend coming online and then, shortly after, see their name pop up in my server while they honk madly to catch up to me and give me a hug; that really can cheer me up when I'm having a hard time.

It’s a wonderful game for comfort until you outlast your friends and then you’re left all alone. I certainly had a much less hollow experience with sky last year and earlier this year than nowadays. I genuinely recommend you try to get in touch with any of the friends you make on this game in a hopes of staying friends after interests drift. Only so many people can grind dailies for years without hitting burnout and missing 2,3,4,5 seasons before they come back. I don’t mean to dissuade anyone; it’s a wonderful experience for awhile, however I do recommend caution and moderation as someone who fell down the rabbit hole, genuinely healed for awhile, before loosing all my friends and being left to walk the game alone. In general if you plan on playing the game solo, good luck. You’re gonna struggle significantly more than duos+ because of its attempts to encourage socializing. Want a candle cake? Why not stand by a door and wait for 3 other people to come for anywhere from 15 mins to 2 hours? Oh, you wanted access to *insert hidden area here*? Wait for 7 other players to either serversplit into your world or just don’t get into I guess

I'm sorry about your experience with it.
I walk mostly alone in this game, but less because I don't have active people added to play with, but by choice. I'm not a very social person due to social anxiety and introversion, and almost didn't start playing because I saw "social aspects" listed as part of the game. Still healing to me, even when people leave, because I see it less like being abandoned and more like the aspect of life where you meet many people, but is constantly parting ways and moving on with your own journey. People come and go, the memories stay and I treasure them. I help people in the second Vault down and fall through the floor for the other cake and don't mind that much. When the dev kinda sucks, you learn to move around the usual systems.
But I see how that could be harsh if you're not into glitches and if you're more of a social person and yeah, definitely get in touch with people outside just the game if you vibe with them. Meetings are followed by partings, always.

Skip 1 stack of candles or just wear chibi to vault. Waiting even 5 minutes is not worth the opportunity cost in this game, cmon now it's not like you can't hit a gray candle without it if that's the aim.
This is just a little too dramatic about the game as a solo player. Sky has two 4-man doors that are right next to each other so getting one always means the other, or chibi drop and get it solo (I would love it to be patched out myself). Just ride the tiger for a single area, it'll have to be patched out and maybe a winged light behind the door to stop this. The single 8-man door is only ever slow during the "free currency" hour of geyser-grandma-turtle chaining. You can go pick up moths in Prairie at any time of day and Forest always has newbies hopping around under the trees that could use your help. The Wasteland staging area is usually clogged with vets socializing but you can find 4 and 5 star moths down the vortex running around in the mud every single time.
I don't know what to tell you, I've been playing this game solo for almost two years and have so many friends that I nearly get 1 heart worth of light per day from the constellation (in between seasons no less). Sky has a global audience, the different time zones and times of day that people will play over time means consistency is going to be hard with many people, just roll with it and add more as friends. You really have to try to be lonely in this game, honestly how are you avoiding being offered friendship by moths??? I don't see the same people every day but I always see somebody, and if you are consistent with playing at a certain time of day then you will easily develop some friendships.
Use your expressions, that really seems to be a flag that triggers a lot of further interaction and leads to somebody leading the other around. The gameplay loop is admittedly not that interesting and I don't begrudge anyone taking off, especially considering the average age of the playerbase. The advice in the video is perfect: treat it like your getaway, sometimes you run into your buds there and sometimes you meet new ones.

I first started playing Sky: Children of the light, during a time when my physical and mental health were rapidly declining and I was in a very dark place. I lived alone, many states away from everyone I knew, so I felt completely alone in my troubles. But when I started playing Sky, I suddenly started feeling my hope being rekindled, as I was shown that there was still some good in this world, even in dark times. I met some wonderful people on there, and was struck by the immense kindness and selflessness of the people who populated this beautiful virtual world, that I couldn’t stop playing. A couple months after playing, both my physical health and my mental health improved exponentially. I credit my now improved health to this beautiful game, which helped me to understand that there’s still beauty in people, and in the world around us. I love Sky. ❤

The amount of friendships and memories I’ve made in my 4 years of playing sky cannot be replaced by anything, from celebrating my birthday multiple times with ingame friends in the game itself, to meeting my best friend… This game has served me as a daily getaway from reality, a safe space where I can go hang out and meet amazing people, people to who I’ve poured my heart out in my worst moments, and this people have always been by my side and supported me through my worst times. And I’ve gotta say, I know they’re online hugs, but when a friend offers me one I feel as if they were next to me irl, giving me said hug…
Thank you TGC, for this masterpiece that I could strongly say saved me…
Now if you’re reading this, go do your dailies! And have a nice day fellow Skykid!

I don't play as much as I used to anymore, because unfortunately, the magic feeling you get playing through it for the first time kinda fades once you know how everything works and where everything is and there's not really anything to explore anymore. Almost teared up the whole video, it hits close to home. I guess I was at my lowest when I found this game by coincidence one day in App store, where the lock down in 2020 had just been issued to my whole country. I can still remember how empty I felt as a human being and how my world view and perspective of others so skewed (factored by other reasons as well) I had half thought of my friends as not humans and myself being only shells of a human that was suppose to be. Where you lost the compassion for others and for yourself and feeling so detached of everything.
I remember how my visions felt like they were clouded, dark and grey, where the world just seems to lose their colours. I slept a lot just to past the time, awake doing routine house chores. And everything else is just a body moving around going by the entire day.
Then I started playing sky, and explore its world and its wonders and their nice community. I learned once more what it feels like to be, for the lack of better words, human again. Then somewhere in my journey within Sky, I've come to a brief realization that oh, it actually feels wonderful to have something to look forward to, and to be alive to have something to hope for. This video made me reflect back on those journey, and i thank you for tht.

Sky is literally the best game I've ever played, I've made such good friends and memories. I personally don't like action-packed and complicated games, so Sky is perfect. There is action, but not an overwhelming amount. It can be complicated at first, but it becomes pretty simple once you get the hang of it. The whole game is so simple and beautiful and peaceful. Pretty much my only complaints are that the controls are hard to use (idk how to explain it, hopefully someone knows what im talking abt), and everything is super expensive. Plus, candles are hard to get without real money or lots of time and patience, which i have none of lmao. But the social aspects and the beautiful scenery makes up for all of it.

The connections I made there that carried on beyond the game were what kept me afloat when I was trapped in an abusive home. what's beautiful is that the game and its community have remained consistently positive since launch, which is something i feel is pretty rare if not almost unheard of today especially in a game as popular as Sky. i've been playing since its release back in 2019 and it's still my go-to game when I need a moment to just quiet my mind and take a break from the world. the music and the realms are just so well crafted in the sense of relaxation and exploration they give you. the vast majority of the community also has one of the most genuine and warm-hearted players i've seen - on a daily basis you will see total strangers rushing to help each other, and in most major areas you're guaranteed to find people just hanging out and having fun.
what i think helps enable this too is that there is no such thing as "winning" in Sky, at least not in the traditional sense. there's no sense of urgency or competitiveness and the game encourages you to go at your own pace. it's really nice and again impressive that they've kept that up all these years.
TGC has always hit the mark when it comes to how they want to portray connections and relationships between people (ie Journey which is undoubtedly the biggest contributor/inspiration to this game) and it really shines the most in Sky. it's a really refreshing experience and i hope more people continue to find their peace through Sky. sorry for the essay, i just really appreciate your video and you shedding light on this. Sky is definitely not without its issues, but i hold this game very dear to my heart :)

i started playing sky during the isolation period of the pandemic. my mental health, which was already fragile from before, was in shambles. i could barely leave the house from crippling anxiety, was in the midsts of an eating disorder, when i wasn't nervous and dreadful i was overwhelmingly empty, and my friendships were starting to fail (everyone was on edge at that time, huh?). it was one of the worst periods of my life.
sky quickly became a comfort game. the friendly interactions with everyone, the cozy vibes, yet heartfelt narrative... the beautiful views as you sore through each world, the many other players you fleetingly meet, the ways you teamworked with people you couldn't even speak to... it was just so, so nice. a light little place in a dark world. i especially loved how you must unlock the chat function as a friend (or if you sit on a bench, i suppose), forcing you to communicate non-verbally if you aren't friends with this feature unlocked. it was a great relief from my social anxiety, as no unexpected conversations could be started, ever. we could silently help each others and make beautiful moments anyway. i love that. more games should take inspiration from it- it makes teamwork feel more... genuine? idk how to describe it.
it was nice. it gave me a safe space

We got reborn together, in such a magical and heartwarming way. I started playing sky about 2 years and a half ago, I fell in love with it after some weeks. It’s just such a wholesome game, I met so many people and got many beautiful outfits. I experienced some amazing seasons and stories that made me cry. I think this game made so much for me.
Sadly, a lot of my friends lived very far away, so I couldn’t play with them very often. Some quited, and so I have done.
I couldn’t play daily anymore, and when I played I just did some cr alone. It got so repetitive and boring, and anyway, I already had all the items I wanted by then.
I really wish I could get back to when I first played, when I was so excited…
I’ll try to play again in this new season, and make new friends. Who knows, maybe I’ll get to see some old ones again too!

I've been playing sky for a little over 2 years now and I can say it's one of my favorite games to have been able to experience^^ it has helped me so much especially with my social anxiety and inability to make many friends. I've made friends with people in sky that I can proudly say are family more than just my friends and, I wouldn't change it for the world. With sky you don't necessarily need to use chat to communicate wich I absolutely love. Spamming emotes and just having fun with others and helping out others without a second thought of ulterior motive is more special than most would think. The community of sky is also a blessing to be in. Everyone is always very kind and patient, always ready to lend a hand when you need it or giving tips and tricks on things such as candle run shortcuts and oob's scattered across the realms. It's definitely an amazing choice of game for those who just want to relax and make friends on a deeper level of connection than what you'd typically see in the real world^^ 💖✨

I agree. Although it's nice being able to customize for self-expression, I've wondered if that actually detracts from the spirit of Sky, as it seems players get caught up in the candle grind. I see so many players just zip by each other on their way to more candles. Let alone that it's a bit expensive, if you really want to customize your char, so I think that keeps some players from sharing candles/hearts/building friendships. I understand that TGC is a business, and so they need to make money somehow. I just hope it doesn't spoil the game in the long run. But humans are competitive and status hierarchies are a part of our nature. It's not something you can eliminate, only minimize. Cosmetics are the status symbols in Sky. That said, they've seemed to have done a great job at minimizing it. You can't see other people unless you light each other's candles. And there are plenty of reasons to play this game that don't necessarily involve people. I for instance am a solo player and I prefer it that way. I've lowkey given up on deep, meaningful friendships because you can't seem to actually have them with people. I still like to help players though or casually interact with them. But what I mostly get out of Sky is a sanctuary and a place of solitude, exploration and innocence. So even though it encourages interaction and cosmetic grinding, it can offer more than that, if that's what people want.

One day I will leave this game...
I'm lil tired of candle-runs and farming, losing old friends, some pictures...
But I still enjoy the silence and confidence, social aspects and music making, the beauty, that Sky gives to me even in the darkest situations.
I'll go away. But not today.

Honestly the sky community is one of the most wholesome and friendly fan bases I've ever seen. of course I'm not denying that of course people can be mean, but I've been playing this game for 2 years and never encountered someone even remotely rude. Even the discord is super helpful, providing tips to new players and people who are stuck. A lot of more experienced players love helping out new players, and its rare to see a veteran without a moth.

This game has brought so much joy for me. I started because of Aurora in January and only really learned to play in March, I've just breached 400 hours in the game. It's a part of my daily routine and is indeed a safe, happy inner place. When I'm upset or sad I close my eyes, in a few hours I return to fly freely and explore, eager to make new friends. And the friends are so great! I've rarely met anyone who isn't kind, funny and happy to sit and chat or explore with you.

I got hugged once in the game, I haven't had a hug from anyone for a long time and it was the best feeling ever, just one hug. I realised how much I needed a hug, even if it was in a virtual setting

Met a friend that I called "AL". They were very supportive, and taught me how to fly around because gosh I was bad at it haha. We had a sort of language barrier sometimes, but when they took my hand and guided me, it felt like we could overcome anything. Unfortunately things got a bit awkward after a certain day, I still try to light their candle but we barely meet up anymore. And then I guess I stopped playing all together... I couldn't forget the beautiful music and scenery. It's both healing but also makes me... a bit sad.

i love how not only commonplace it is for players to help each other- it’s straight up expected. and i’m not even talking about doors that require multiple people; i just mean socially. i know whenever i see someone lose wing light to either a krill or the rain- there’s at LEAST three ppl (myself included) always running to that persons side to help them.

Can't tell you how many times I've been about to leave an area, only to do a complete 180 and speed-fly across the map to save a player. 9 times out of 10 someone else gets to them before me, but I *have* to make sure they're okay first. 😂

Coming up in a few days will be my first full year playing Sky, really I must say, it has been life altering. I've met so so so many new people I can really call my friends, no matter how many times I visit all the realms they always feel fresh and new to me after a long day. If you've never played Sky, I can whole heartedly say ' your missing out'.

I used to play sky almost every day back in 2020. i made such good friends through the game and I made so many memories that i still cherish to this day. After all my friends moved on and we drifted apart, I dont play nearly as much as I used to. Despite that, this game still holds a very special place in my heart.

Sky is a game that made me love strangers and at the same time broke me… i’ll always remember Siroanco during my first playthought… She was like a mentor and a mother to me, especially because i had issues at home, she was like my saviour in the game and irl… She showed me the world of sky and it wonders, i really miss her and i wish i could see her again and play with her, show her how much i’ve grown… I’m sure she would be proud of me

I'd never forget my first and second day playing this game.
One day while scrolling through the play store I found this game and remembered that my friend (whom I never talk to again) used to play this. Before I downloaded it I did a bit of research where I learned that this game was made by the same people behind Journey. Ok, cool. I love Journey despite never playing it. So I downloaded it with low expectations.
In the first/tutorial world I play like most people would. It wasn't really spectacular or amazing. Just a simple tutorial world that's enough to push me to the next world. Ok, cool. But then when I got to the second world it blew my mind. The green open area, the ruins, the people, it was really cool (especially for a post apocalyptic overgrown ruin lover).
I continued to explore and I met this person. This person was the first player that I can see their true self and they're just like me, a new player (moth). I was like "that's really cool" and not long after that they gave me a friend candle and this player's name is Itofat (yes, that's a random generated name. No, I didn't know how to change it). I then I moved again, that's until I realized that Itofat is now following. It was a really good surprise for me since usually players in any games just go on their own after they just meet.
Ok, now I have someone who'll explore the world with me, cool. We then spent the majority of our time in that world. Exploring every single corner of it. It was really fun. Flying and honking and doing quests together. We then found a well hidden area with a mountain island and floating islands. We spent the rest of our time there. I then decided to stop playing because it's already 1am.
The next day I play again. I was hoping to play with Itofat again but it was just me. Ok, no problem. I'm just gonna explore the third, fourth and fifth world just by myself. Well, not really. I met more people here and there but none of them were staying with me.
But then to my surprise by the time I reached the sixth world I met Itofat again, honking aggressively at me. We then explore the sixth world together. It was a beautiful world.
At that point, I thought that the game was about to end because I only saw six doors in the lobby. But to my surprise (yeah, this game keeps surprising me) there's a final world. The seventh world.
Suddenly, the game turned into a full blown horror/survival game. I mean, sure that the fourth world was kinda like that but you can skip the majority of the scary part. But here you have to face the nightmares. When we were opening the gate to that world we met another moth. The three of us then climbed and tried our best to stay alive.
We then at the Eye of Eden, a place where bad crystals fall from the sky, the sky is dark, and statues that look like other players scattered around the area. We give our wings to each of those statues, until we run out of wings and slowly die at the same time. A few moments later we were reborn and flew together to space.
We saw lots of beautiful imaginary accompanied with an amazing soundtrack. Then we were at the end of the game and we found a bench. That bench was the first and only bench in the game that witnessed the two of us talking to each other, and it wasn't even long. We say our thanks and we go to the light and then thrown back to the lobby.
It was such a jaw dropping moment. No, this whole game is a jaw dropping moment. Every single second that I spent there was really fantastic. It was genuinely the first game that made me feel something that I've never felt in any videogames before.
From seeing the world, to the soundtracks, and to meet everyone including Itofat. It was such an amazing experience. Although, we never really play together again. Whenever we see each other we are doing something else.
I stopped playing in 2022 because I got bored since I did every quest in the game and the season of AURORA was too intense for my phone. And I took a break. During my break, I keep getting notifications from the game that Itofat is giving me candles. It keeps happening for months.
Recently, like a week recently, I decided to go back because my friend on discord is playing the game for the first time. I also found out that there are more seasons now, which means that now I'm back.
But yeah, that's my whole experience with this game. Nothing beats it. God of War, Minecraft, Mini Ninjas, Rayman Legends, those were the games that left a huge impact on me, and now I can safely say that this game has left a bigger impact to me than those games. All thanks to thatgamecompany for making this wonderful game. And also thanks to Itofat for making the experience go from 100 to 1000.

This is going to be a long one of my experience with Sky.
This video really reminded me of how I first experienced Sky. I’ve been playing this game for three years consistently and I’ve seen Sky change over the years. And I have a 2500+ picture album to show.
Friends don’t stay. I may be pretty invested in the game but people usually don’t play for three years. My friend list is filled with offline friends. But why not add them outside of Sky? You may ask. Because Sky is a game that is able to bring people all over the world together. Most of my friends are from another country, so I don’t have their social medias to add them. And for the friends that I had added outside of Sky, we don’t talk because the only thing in common we had was Sky. But every once in a while, I like to sit by an afk Sky child and wait until they realized that I’ve joined. Or randomly follow a Sky child until they light me up.
The community aspect has definitely changed. When people are struggling to open the 4 player door, we see people glitching out of the map to get in, even if we only need 1 person to help. I’ve sat at benches to wait for someone to help me with the daily question and screamed for 10 minutes while a group sits on the side playing around. Sometimes when I feel bored, I go to prairie to find some people to hang out with. I keep waiting, watching people run pass to do their candle runs. But Sky is also the game I’ve never reported someone in, mainly because the report feature can only be used after you light someone up and if someone is harassing you, they definitely will not light.
The game mechanics has definitely changed for the better. No more obligatory cut scenes. No more losing all your lights if you bump into the walls while going down the Valley hill. But a thing that never changed is the server jump or disconnection. Sometimes the game tries to join you with other people, but you are running with a group of friends, and now you’re all disconnected. But that’s been a bug ever since I started playing so I guess it’s just a feature now. And every time there’s a new seasonal update, sanctuary always breaks
But Sky is still the most memorable game I’ve ever played. It’s not a perfect game but there’s a reason I played for three years. Every season, they gift us a new big thing. But it’s not a game that I would recommend to everyone because it’s not for everyone. I’ve recommended to a couple of friends to play with me but they didn’t really get it and stopped playing within a week. I still enjoyed showing them around as I see them react how I did when I first played. Reminds me of a younger me. If you want to really get deep into the game, there is a sense of commitment

I started a week or two ago while i was in a horrible state, My boyfriend recommended me it and i grew to love the game, its calm aura and kind community has made me feel better and helps me be more sociable (I think-) If i could choose only one game to play for the rest of my life, it would be sky
It's a nice place to find actual nice people during whatever the hell this planet is going through, Probably one of the nicest communities i've been in by far
May still be a semi-moth, but I like it that way
Anyone reading this, have a nice day/night and i hope you find the best in life, if stuff gets rough, just hop on sky

i have been playing sky for over 3 years by now and when i play it the memories i had of it r just making me cry, i miss my friends very much, but still i have found other people to hang out with there. i was taught to play this game by some 16 year old korean girl which doesnt play sky anymore and then i found my 4 friends i still have contact with, i still have the old photos of all of us there and when i look at them it makes me miss theses old times. i still remember the first time i entered valley of triumph and the second i was there made it my favourite map, i loved the races so much that by now, i am usually in the first place and my friends are asking me on how am i so fast and i dont know how to answer that question because i dont know either. when i look at the photos and i join the game it makes me remind of these days. now im a duck with butterfly cape, baggy pants, valley twin hair and a summer hat. i very loved season of little prince and fun fact! season of dreams was released on my birthday!! it was a amazing birthday present and its still my favourite season.
i sometimes wish me and my 4 friends i met there will play sky together again
