The recall part you talked about is so true. I didn’t realize that when first learning algs. Would just do it for 5 minutes than I could do it without looking and thought that I was done. But then it would come up during a solve and I would have no idea what to do. Make sure you stop and then practice (5 min later ) again. The recall is very important.

These tips have been very useful, but I find personally that the more important aspect to preforming an algorithm during a solve is muscle memory. As I am doing an algorithm in a solve I'm not thinking about the specific moves I'm doing. As soon as I recognize the case my fingers just go, I think the most useful part of the trainer is teaching how to recognize cases faster. Great video as always.

I just started using your trainer program for oll, it's pretty awesome. One thing I do is only look at the cube when the timer starts, because it's less realistic if you use inspection time for oll, it seems like it would be good for trying to quickly recall the algorithm.

This really helps me out. This is really pretty accurate. Solving OLLs since there are 57 cases are very difficult, but since I knew atleast 5 algorithms, I can easily figure out other cases by using 2-looks, mirrored-case and reversing algorithms. I have done this also in A perm that's why my time decreased (from around 40s-50s to 20s-30s). For me, reversing algorithms are one of the best technique I made since the turnings are the only thing I need to practice. Another technique I use is exploring the cube itself. Starting from a solved cube, I'm gonna make a moves that will remove an F2L block from its place and then will re-enter it to its place without reversing the moves I've done already. It really opened me up in more other cases. Thank you for this. These infromations will be recalled ;D

Make sure you learn the algorithms with the most efficient fingertricks, it will save a lot of time in the long run as you won't need to learn them later down the line when you are fast enough that having good fingertricks is key.

    • @crimson3362
      @crimson3362 4 года назад +1

what really helped me learn the g perms is watching the white pieces (if you do white cross), and also how i remember which algorithm goes with which is
(and this only applies if you use the algorithms that j-perm uses)
      - if the bar is on the front or back, you start with r2
-if the bar is on the side, you start by taking out an f2l pair.
if the bar is on the side but closer to you, you take out the pair closer to you
if the bar is on the side but farther from you, you take out the back pair

    NOTES & TIMESTAMPS for me
    Intro
0:00 not trained speed solving vs after few days
0:08 Learning Algorithms (or anything) = Information + Recall
    0:14 Information: algorithm in head
    0:19 Recall: retrieving algorithm quickly
0:24 INFORMATION: how to memorize algorithms
    0:25 with Patterns: example: R U R' U R U2 R' : R moves go up, down, up, down, and U moves go U U U2. The condensed algorithm is R U R' U R U2 R'
    0:43 with Visual: example F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F', visualize the pair
    - (F R U' R'): insert pair
    - U'
    - (R U R'): put pair back
    - F'
    - (R U R'): pair out
    - U' (R' F R F'): put pair with sledgehammer
    - The condensed algorithm is: (F R U' R') U' (R U R') F' (R U R') U' (R' F R F')
    1:06 with Fingers: example R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R'
    - (R U R' F'): sexy move but F' at end
    - (R U R' U'): sexy move
    - (R' F R2 U' R'): down, right hand, up, left hand, R'
1:33 muscle memory: when algorithm in your brain, if slower turn -> harder muscle memory
    1:39 RECALL
    1:41 no recall vs recall:
    - no recall: choppy execution
    - recall: all really smooth
    1:57 PRACTICE
    - practice/keep doing -> really well
    - even really confident: if come back later -> difficult

When learning a new Alg I revisit it for about one week before I consider it memorised. If I stuff it during a solve following the week, I revisit it each day for another week. Often this means having a handful of algs that are in this state of learning. My biggest issue is having a new alg messing with my memory of an existing alg...

I have a problem, after a lot of solves I tend to forget the algorithms as sets of letters, but I just remember them by muscle memory and if I slow down I notice that it is hard for me to remember the next move without messing up, so I always have to go very fast and if for some reasons the cube lockups stopping me during an algorithm execution sometimes I don't know how to go ahead anymore 😭. I really admire you, because you're both able to keep remembering the written algorithms and just the moves

What I do: I learn an algorithm, see if I can come up with something to make it easier, like the two W oll cases for example, I saw that you take out the right (or left pair) then push it away, then turn the R (or L) layer up then take the pair and nearly insert it, but not put the pair back from where it belongs, turn the R (or L) layer down, and insert the pair with a sledgehammer. It help me a lot. And if I can't find it, then I just memorize the moves and make it a muscle memory.
