Hey Boss, this was great! I've been restoring my RV, interior and exterior, for several months. Now that it's close to being finished, it appears that I need to replace the fuel pump. Although I am capable of doing it, I really didn't want to fool with dropping the fuel tank and was considering tanking it to a mechanics shop. This video changed that for me. I'll go ahead and do it. As another commentor already stated, "good camera angles, clear narration, straight to the point"!!
good job man...but that flashlight could have rolled into the tank....lol...u had me sweating there untill the electrical line was clear of the light! LOL!
Having had pump fail on several cars, and high shop $$ w/ much smaller tanks; amazed at price difference to OEM? MY BIGGEST FEAR, YET YOU MADE IT LOOK SO EASY. My cars usually failed w/ full tanks :-( Great video, great narration.
Well done..! Liked the way you explained how to do it with out a lot of time wasted on small talk. Camera work was exceptional (no time wasted on messing with the Camera.) Curious about how long new pump from dealer has lasted so far? To justify $500.00 price tag? Were you getting a engine light? If so, what OBD2 code did it give you? Also Approximately how much time do you think it would of taken you if you were not filming it ? Great video THANKS !!
So far it's been 10k miles on the dealer pump. I tried the $70 after market pump first but then it started failing after 6k miles(hesitated when cranking and when driving). I did initially receive a check engine light with a P0191 code reading. I replaced the Fuel Rail Sensor first but the check engine light came back after a week so I replaced the pump(twice..lol). Filming didn't slow me down too much but without having to do it I think I could have finished in about 2hrs. Thanks for watching!
I use my Sawzall to cut a hole in the floor over the fuel tank and pulled it right out and put the new one in. I screwed some aluminum flat bar around the edge for trim and made a hatch out of the hole. 35 minutes
Excellent video! I have an 2006 coachman mounted on an E-450 chassis. Getting a fuel rail pressure sensor error, P0191. Have replaced the sensor but the error keeps coming back. Going to just start replacing all the fuel system components do not want to take a chance on getting stranded. So I was wondering how hard it was to replace the fuel pump. Your video explained it perfectly. Not sure I'm going to do it myself, probably have a garage do it for me but it showed me that it really wasn't that big of a job. Any ideas on the fuel rail pressure sensor error?
I'm also having problems fueling the RV. Even with an empty tank when I start fueling the fueling nozzle senses that the tank is full and shuts off. The workaround is to lower the leveling jacks on the left side of the RV and tilting the whole RV about 5 to maybe 10 degrees. With the RV at this angle I am able to fill the tank up with no problems. Obviously some type of venting problem with the tank. Any ideas?
Awesome glad it was of some help! Yeah I was getting that same error code and changed the sensor as well. After changing the fuel pump the problem was solved. As far as the fueling issue, not sure I never had that issue. I think you’re right about the potential ventilation issue.
Thanks for the great video! I need to change the fuel pump in my 2001 Ford RV E450 also. Unfortunately it has a full tank of gas (55 gallons). Tried siphoning from the fill tube with no luck. Any ideas? Thinking the only way to do it is to unhook the fill tube from the tank, bypass or remove the anti siphon valve if possible and siphon that way
Yeah that’s a tough one. I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now but I was thinking the only other way would be to carefully lower the tank with jack and disconnect the fill hose and siphon from there?
Great video! What that 2nd fuel line for your on-board generator? If so, do you have to purchase a specific fuel pump so it would have that 2nd fuel line for the generator?
@@rvboss2911When ordering a fuel pump for your motorhome, does the dealer need to know it is for a motorhome so it will have that 2nd fuel line for the generator?
Hi...the part number for the sender isn't a link, it's just the part number for the dealer. The price I paid was in 2020 from a dealer in Philadelphia so not sure what the prices are now. Hope that helps.
My 2004 E450 four winds just stalled while driving. Then check gauge light came on. I think the fuel pump is bad. Did you have any dash lights come on? How did you diagnose that you had a bad fuel pump? Thank you.
Hi! I have the same vehicle just a year newer and I’m having the same issue. No lights came on but based on Research everything is pointing towards the fuel pump. I just purchased a new one and hopefully this is the fix that I’ve been looking for. I’ll let you know.
Yeah my check engine light came on and I connected the code reader which said fuel system issue. I changed the fuel rail pressure sensor first then the fuel pump.
The check engine light came on initially and gave a code. Didn’t want to take any chances of getting stuck on the side of the road so decided to swap it out.
Were you having a problem with the pump to start with? Me an a friend have the 2005 E-450. The problem is the check engine light comes on every time the engine is started. It has gotten to the place where the MH does not have to be moved anymore to bring the light on. At first, you needed to move the MH to get the light to come on. The code is PO191. Once the code is cleared it will not return until the next time the engine is started. The code can be cleared or not cleared but there is NO problem with the engine for power. We both live in Colorado and there is no problem with power due to the fact that the light comes on or is left on. There is no problem with climbing the steepest mountain grades. This makes both of us feel the problem is not the fuel pump.
I have two motorhomes of the same model(2005 &2007). They both reacted exactly like your description. I first changed the fuel rail pressure sensor on both of them, cleared the code and about 3 weeks later the light came back on in both. That's when I decided to replace the fuel pump in both. I never had any loss of power or issues driving either vehicle before changing anything. The check engine light did not come on with the P0191 code for about a year. I had a separate issue recently that caused the check engine light to come on with P0191 code. A rodent chewed through the air filter and caused the mAss Air Flow sensor to get clogged with the chewed material. It would start then stall and I had no idea what it was so I replaced the Fuel Driver Module, fuel filter and reset the fuel inertia switch and finally took it to the shop where they found the issue. Hope that helps. If I can answer any other questions feel free to contact me. Willie 914-886-3760
2000 E450 Class C w/ v10 Ya our tank said 3/4 last night when filling up but took over $100 and like 25 gallons, the tank only holds 55 so somethings not adding up. 41.75 is 3/4 of a tank thinking its sender in tank or level but it appears its all part of the fuel pump?

That could be tough. Maybe a junkyard or eBay. Good luck with that😄
Is there a way that's easy to get siphon into tank to drain out older gas i was trying to avoid dropping tank
I’m not sure of a way to do that. You might be able to fit a siphon tube through the line by removing the gas cap opening
Outstanding Big Brother ... need to convert my same bus 🚎 back to gasoline ,, from cng

How does the generator get its fuel from the rv, does it connect to the pump?
There’s a fuel line from the tank to the generator. The generator has it’s own fuel pump connected to it.
I have an E450 as well. What were your symptoms of a failing fuel pump?
The check engine light came on initially and gave a code. Didn’t want to take any chances of getting stuck on the side of the road so decided to swap it out.
Nice job

Great job 👍

Great video. What are the ramps that you’re using there? Did you drive it up on those or put them under the RV after jacking it up?
They are (12,000lbs.)Rhino ramps I picked up at Autozone. I drove the RV up on to them and it gave me enough room to work.
Great video. Thanks!

The pump on both MH's were replaced an the light has not come on since. It is now 6 weeks and over 600 miles.

Not sure the situation but a shop would charge at $100hr x 4hr plus parts. Maybe charge half that or whatever you feel comfortable with
