I was about to cut finished plywood with my handsaw and rip cut tool using a 24 tooth blade…the user manual recommended a 40 tooth or higher, didn’t know why…yup, glad I watched this video first. Thanks for the help.
To clean your blades get a 5 gallon bucket cover. A 10 inch blade fits perfectly, spray on blade cleaner and scrub with a old toothbrush. I use Trend Tool Cleaner.
One more thing to mention that was not covered here regarding the kerf/blade thickness, is that a balanced saw with a thicker blade will cut better and more precise with less chance of kickback. The thinner blades often wobble slightly back and forth giving you imperfect cuts and chance to throw the wood out such as a contractor saw or midrange saw on a stand if the saw is not perfectly level. The Forrest WWII blade will last you 10 years if you take care of it and get it sharpened as seen at the end of the video. Will have to try a CMT blade. Nice vid.
What a blessing to have people like you share your knowledge with us the Knowledgeable. This video has help me to purchase the right blade for the right job and more. Thank you so much partner!
I've got that same DeWalt tablesaw that you showed the image of. And I love that saw. I've never found it to be under powered at all. Also the 32 tooth blade, I got that same blade with my tablesaw along with 2 other blades. I use the 24 blade tooth for carpentry type work. I use the 32 tooth blade(you had in your hand) for crosscuts. And the 60 tooth blade for rip cuts. I haven't had a problem with anyone of them. I also purchased a - Freud thin kerf 24 tooth rip cut. The only reason I ordered that one is because it was a ftg. And wow the difference. I get as good of cuts from the Freud blade as I do from any of the DeWalt blades. Anyhow I was just chatting. Great video. Anyone starting out will learn a lot from this video, Matt. I wish I would have found a video like this when I was starting out.. lol. Thanks for the great content, keep up the great work.. God bless you all. Take care.
I have the Forrest for crosscut and got a CMT 24t for ripping. The CMT was a game changer for me on ripping, since it has eliminated the burning i was getting with the Forrest blade. The time I spend changing the blade is far less than the time i spent sanding the burned areas. Love the videos Matt
Diablo are my favorite so far. I think they are a good price and good quality for most home woodworkers. Never tried CMT but maybe I'll try them next time.
I used Diablo blades for years. Thought I’d up my game and purchased both a rip cut and crosscut CMT Orange blade. The difference is night and day. Sure, they cost more, but in my opinion, you “get what you pay for.” Wish I’d switched a long time ago.
This video is very good. If you use the Kunlun tooth saw blade we developed, you can achieve higher results. The Kunlun tooth can make the upper and lower sides without chipping, bursting, or cracking.
Okay, okay! I'll replace my original saw blade that came with the table when I bought it (2 years ago)! Thanks so much for the tip, Matt! At least that will save me from having to clean it. Love your channel - been watching for several months now. This video has a lot of useful information. I've seen other people say to use nylon or brass to clean blades, never steel.
According to Project Farm my stock Ryobi blades aren't all that bad ;) Im happy to have picked up my first diablo blade, it's a high tooth count and i've been humming and hawing over which machine to put it in (both my table saw and miter are 10") and this has basically convinced me to to put this thing in the miter, and seek out a decent combo blade for the table saw
I am so pleased to have stumbled on this video. I never knew there was so much to consider in blades. I'm just getting in to outfitting my man cave workshop so I'll be looking at my existing blades and changing accordingly. Thank you.
I do like the Diablo blades. Have them on miter and table saws. I get them at woodcraft or Rockler. A little more expensive but a little better quality. Every 5th tooth is flat. Kinda best of both worlds. They cut great and when cleaned regularly are awesome. I have tried the Ridge Carbide blade too. It is simply amazing! I’d put it right up there with the Forest WWII!
Yeah I think most beginners including me don't think about the arbor length because we aren't thinkin bout Datos ya know, me I knew I wanted more then a job site saw so I was lucky the contractor saw I got was fine, or I would have sold it straight away lol....super important for beginners to know this...
I bought a combination and crosscut blade from Luxite which is part of York Saw and Knife company. They have worked great the little I have used them so far.
I have used the Diablo blades for many years and they work great but I bought a Forrest brand blade for my table see a few years back and it's a really nice blade. Having said that. I have been using the CMT router bits for some time as well and they are great bits so I plan on trying their saw blades for my next purchase, especially after seeing how much you like them too.
I have a radial arm saw that I picked up used for a really great price. I use that machine instead of putting a dado blade in my table saw. It's so much faster and easier to set and cut half-lap and similar grooves in boards on that machine and avoid the pain of changing the blade on my old craftsman table saw. Anyway, my question is what do you guys use for a FLAT tooth blade? I have a lot of trouble finding a good quality flat tooth blade that leaves a nice clean flat cut without spending $175 for the blade. I tried one of those ATB blades that had a few flat teeth mixed in but that still does not leave a nice clean flat bottom on the cuts. Any suggestions would be very welcome. As always, GREAT video Matt! It's been really fun watching your channel grow over the years.
So I'm fairly new to woodworking, and the wife bought me my first table saw for Christmas last year. It's the DeWalt with an 8 1/4" blade, and I'm having the hardest time finding a flat top grind blade that isn't thin kerf. Wanted to do finger joints, so a thin kerf blade would be a bad option. Is there anyone out there with any suggestions? I've looked, read multiple comments, followed links, and so far I've been denied. I've gotten a lot of good advice and ideas from this channel, so you were my go-to guy. Hopefully someone can help me?
Thanks for all the great information. I got a Planer, and Router coming today. I still need a brad nailer and miter saw to get started in my wood shop, I never realized all the difference things you need to know to buy the best tools.
Just grabbed the 12" 80 tooth 252.072.12 . Same price or little less than 80 tooth diablo and can have it sharpened lol Not their expensive ones but good kerf and plate thickness for $56. Im just starting so better than diablo/ big box but not the best .110 kerf and .087 plate. This is for my DeWalt dws790 sliding compound miter saw. I saw later they sell specialized blades for the miter saws but the one i got said good for both miter, sliding, and tablesaw
thanks bro this was really helpful.... my father makes wood works to sell but he has a harbor freight table saw and i see him struggling all the time with it and i would like to give him a big table saw like the one that comes out in your video but thing is that i don't know where they sell them nor have the money or the age to buy one and that sucks cuz i know how much my father likes working with wood.... i think every guy how loves wood crafts go's thru that struggle.
thanks for the video. even though i have a saw of most types the sliding miter saw is my main saw 90 percent of what i use. i will keep you tips in mind.
Very good video, Thanks, Matt. I am searching for a blade to go on my table saw right now. 1" arbor, saw can take up to a 14" blade. Current rip blade that came with saw (used) is a 14", 0.177 kerf width monster. Moving down in size so I can hide the blade below the table surface when saw is not in use. After watching, I might be in the market for a couple 12" blades. One with 42 teeth, one with 96 for that cabinet work.
to the point! Wow took way too long to find this concise video! Yes beginners don't need all the fluff and as a women I really need to understand the basics.
Love my Diablo blades. I do have a CMT blade on my circular saw and am impressed with the cuts from it. Need to upgrade my table saw blade so I might go with a CMT on it.
I switched to CMT blades a few months back and haven't looked back. I still have a bunch of spyders and diablos but find myself using the CMT more so. They are great quality from the full kerf to the thin kerf. They also look good with that chrome finish!
Great video! I work at a local Woodcraft part-time and most of our customers purchase Freud blades. I tend to push the Freud 50 tooth combo blade if they want an all around "pretty much do anything" blade. Our more serious customers, the ones who make a living with their saws, or are more serious hobbyists, usually go with Forrest blades.
Another highly informative video. Great job, Matt! I appreciate you pointing out the arbor size difference potential between miter sauce and tablesaws. Some people might luck out and have the same size, but it’s not something that should be taken for granted.
Its been a year since you recorded this, but thank you so much. Your explanation of a realistic "what you actually need when you start" v. " the absolute best." Its advice like Project Farm. I was really confused and lost on what I need to buy to replace my junk blade that came with my miter saw.
A good reason to go with a lower tooth count blade, especially in heavier stock is the deeper gullet between the teeth. Makes it easier for the blade to remove the chips from the cut. Blade runs cooler, motor doesn’t work as hard. Usually your rip blade will have fewer teeth.
your awesome, I was wondering if I needed to have several different types of blades or can I get away with three... a thin kirf, combination tooth and flat tooth. I am starting my DIY and will be making furniture, those will help.
I just bought a WEN Brand off Amazon .All I can say is wow .$14.00 for a 80 tooth 12 inch for the miter saw . First one lasted 5 mo ,on my second ,I tossed the first one away
Hi Matt, Got a question that I'm thinking might be a little silly. My riving knife on my table saw has a thickness of .090, the Diablo combination blade has a kerf of .098. I'm thinking as long as the blades kerf is more than the riving knife I should be ok.
Good to see you again. Got distracted by other things and out of habit of watching your vids for a while & forgot what a great job you do. Now YT is feeding me a whole bunch of your vids again, almost an overload but that’s OK. Very new to woodworking, planning first project which will be custom bookcase to match IKEA kitchen cabinets in kitchen overhaul. Will sit on countertop bolted to neighboring cabinet, about 24w x 48h x 12-15d, painted to match cabinets, probably three adjustable shelves. Thinking to make this out of 3/4” baltic birch ply. Edge banding so ply layers don’t show, or would I be better off doing this in a solid hardwood? In any case, want surfaces/edges perfectly smooth with no visible grain or ply layers when it’s painted. Not sure if the IKEA panels I’m trying to match have sharp corners or slightly rounded, not chamfered. Can I use edge banding and route a small radius to soften the corners to match?
Appreciate your time and teaching. I am new to wood. Cars is another story. I restored the wood work (veneer) on a MK ll jaguar. Very expensive since I had to do it twice. I love exotic veneers. Any advice? Thank you for your time I am learning lots from you. Not to old to learn 72 glorious years😎
I’m a DIYer my table saw indicates 5000 RPM’s I’m having a hard time finding a 10” 5000 RPM’s not sure if they stopped making them. What is the worst that can happen if I use a 10” 6000 RPM blade?
Do you recommend i buy a sidepark circular saw 1350 watt as its the only one that have variable speed i can find And can you please recommend blades for finest cuts in wood and thin steel for it?
i went to home depot to buy a 10 inch table saw blade. every single one that was in stock, about 30 differant types was a THIN ferf blade. what’s up with that. so amazon has the CMT full kerf that i want. who’s doing the buying for home depot??
I'm curious if you know much about the miter saw blades they have at harbor freight, I've tried to search on RUclips and I really can't find much details but their pricing is pretty sweet and nice that I can just walk in and grab one if I need it but I don't want to pull the trigger until I figure out at least which one is the best to choose from between Hercules and Bauer or if I should just stay far away from them. I know one of them blue Hercules blades will match my miter saw stand lol
Have Diablo on Miter and new table saw. Used Masterforce from Menards on old table saw and still have them on my circular saws. Looking into CMT now. Thanks for the info
I have the SawStop CTS. I feel it lacks power. What would be the best blade for clean cut on plywood/melamine? I am a hobbyist and not ready for a blade for every cut. Will a Combination 60T with painters tape give me a great cut? Also, what about kerf size? I know thin nerf will give the CTS a little more power but what about blade flex or wobble? Thanks
This is a really concise video. I watched one prior to this and it was so much blah blah blah... I just wanted plain information told to me in a reasonable amount of time.
Enjoyed the video! Just picked up a 50 tooth Diablo combo for a new table saw. Been happy with it so far. Side note: How’s that ice down in Monticello? We have 1 inch plus of ice on our driveway in Sheridan.
Perhaps I am asking a question I should not; however, I have been looking at a Woodpecker blade for my Festool Kapex. I have been using the original blade but it is time for a sharpening or possible replacement. What are your thoughts for the quality from Woodpecker or should I stay with a Festool blade?
Hi , did you have any problems with any 3rd party blades on a saw stop? I have bought an amana 24 tooth flat top blade and it is a tiny bit smaller than the saw stop by about 4mm ... I got an error code to adjust the brake cartridge so I adjusted it and in order to get the code to go away i had to tighten the screw quite a bit to a point where the supplied yellow gauge of 70 thou doesnt fit between the lower part of the brake and the blade , but a credit card which is 30 thou fits ... Have you experienced this with any blade ?
Some higher quality blades have a clear coating on them to provide a "slicker" and less burn cutting as the wood passes thru. Simple Green will often remove this coating. A better cleaner would be something like Boeshield Blade and Bit. Just my opinion. Otherwise I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
Best table saw blade for most people (affiliate): lddy.no/13sx0 use code 731CMT10 to save 10% off CMT blades
I use Diablo on my miter and table saw. In took two finger tips straight and clean, surgeon was impressed. 😂
I was about to cut finished plywood with my handsaw and rip cut tool using a 24 tooth blade…the user manual recommended a 40 tooth or higher, didn’t know why…yup, glad I watched this video first. Thanks for the help.
I'm 57, been in the shop A LOT and I still learned something in this video. Thanks man, keep it up!

Finally went from a dewalt 24t to a 60t on my chop. What a world of difference it makes with blowout too
I have the Forrest for crosscut and got a CMT 24t for ripping. The CMT was a game changer for me on ripping, since it has eliminated the burning i was getting with the Forrest blade. The time I spend changing the blade is far less than the time i spent sanding the burned areas. Love the videos Matt
I cleaned my Diablo blades for the first time last week - was like buying a new blade!! Definitely will be doing it more often 👍
I never even thought cleaning the blade would do anything, been woodwork for over 10 years now. I’ll be cleaning my blades on Monday
Diablo are my favorite so far. I think they are a good price and good quality for most home woodworkers. Never tried CMT but maybe I'll try them next time.
This is the wonder of technology... great people sharing his knowledge... like this man . Thanks very helpful 👌

Thanks for all the great information. I got a Planer, and Router coming today. I still need a brad nailer and miter saw to get started in my wood shop, I never realized all the difference things you need to know to buy the best tools.
Lowes has been selling a craftsman Brad and finish mailer two pack for $59, sometimes down to $29 in store. FYI, that's what I got
Had really good luck with amana blades
Just grabbed the 12" 80 tooth 252.072.12 . Same price or little less than 80 tooth diablo and can have it sharpened lol
Not their expensive ones but good kerf and plate thickness for $56. Im just starting so better than diablo/ big box but not the best

thanks for the video. even though i have a saw of most types the sliding miter saw is my main saw 90 percent of what i use. i will keep you tips in mind.
Have always used Forrest Woodworker II 10" x 20 or 40 #1 grind/square cut for most all of my table saw work. Expensive about the best out there!

That was in the middle of the kandoor block from yesterday with the vagina padlock
Love this; great job my friend!!!
Thanks so much!
Its been a year since you recorded this, but thank you so much. Your explanation of a realistic "what you actually need when you start" v. " the absolute best." Its advice like Project Farm. I was really confused and lost on what I need to buy to replace my junk blade that came with my miter saw.
CMT blades are ok, I prefer Amana, I also use Guhdo they're noice as well. I don't use thin kerf they flex too much, don't like the Diablo ones
As always-Great 'quick' review.
Hope YT provides you with residuals for a LONG time
Nice information,thank you.
Thanks for your expertise. What would be the best blade to cut butcher block
Informative as always! Your video editing has really come up in the last few months too! Keep up the good work!
Very useful video 👍🏼 you have helped me decide what blade to buy for my makita mitre saw, thank you 😊
Thank you for the helpful content. I jump between Diablo and Avanti.
If flat top blades cut cleaner then why ever not use them? Is there a benefit to the ATV?
I like the way you explaine stuff how do you know when to change a blade
I use Diablo blades in my table saw and they are great.
A good reason to go with a lower tooth count blade, especially in heavier stock is the deeper gullet between the teeth. Makes it easier for the blade to remove the chips from the cut. Blade runs cooler, motor doesn’t work as hard. Usually your rip blade will have fewer teeth.
He says that in the vid. 3:22 he mentions when he might go for lower tooth count.
your awesome, I was wondering if I needed to have several different types of blades or can I get away with three... a thin kirf, combination tooth and flat tooth. I am starting my DIY and will be making furniture, those will help.
Yes, you can use those 3 for most things you'll cut
In europe where I live, bosch has some fine tooth clean cut options
Personally, I prefer the Woodriver brand for my table saw and Freud for my miter saw
What kind of sawblade would I need for slicing through 3/4” AR500 steel within under 30 seconds
Thank you so much for this information! So helpful and you made it sound easy. 😊
I Have a Dewault 184mm 1,6mm saw. I guess 60T will be too much for what you said. So what would be the tooth count for the same on a 184mm blade?
What do you recommend on a very tight budget and plus I do this for a hobby not a job
Good to see you again. Got distracted by other things and out of habit of watching your vids for a while & forgot what a great job you do. Now YT is feeding me a whole bunch of your vids again, almost an overload but that’s OK.

Cars is another story. I restored the wood work (veneer) on a
MK ll jaguar. Very expensive since I had to do it twice.
I love exotic veneers. Any advice?
Thank you for your time I am learning lots from you. Not to old to learn 72 glorious years😎
I want to make my own picture frames and all I have is a miter saw. The blade on the saw leaves really rough cuts.
I’m a DIYer my table saw indicates 5000 RPM’s I’m having a hard time finding a 10” 5000 RPM’s not sure if they stopped making them. What is the worst that can happen if I use a 10” 6000 RPM blade?
Do you recommend i buy a sidepark circular saw 1350 watt as its the only one that have variable speed i can find
And can you please recommend blades for finest cuts in wood and thin steel for it?
i went to home depot to buy a 10 inch table saw blade. every single one that was in stock, about 30 differant types was a THIN ferf blade. what’s up with that. so amazon has the CMT full kerf that i want. who’s doing the buying for home depot??
Are miter bkades and Circular saw blades interchangeable?
I'm curious if you know much about the miter saw blades they have at harbor freight, I've tried to search on RUclips and I really can't find much details but their pricing is pretty sweet and nice that I can just walk in and grab one if I need it but I don't want to pull the trigger until I figure out at least which one is the best to choose from between Hercules and Bauer or if I should just stay far away from them. I found this liquid Teflon stuff, I rubbed it on my miter saw blade and it cuts so smooth! Keeps the blade clean as a whistle
I like a blade that cuts 😂
Seriously I am following your advice Diablo
I use Freud and Forrest. Both can be resharpened
What size do I need to cut through 2 inches at 45 degrees?
You seemed to quote the same tooth counts for table and miter saws but they are very different diameters. Doesn't that mean a different cut?
How about a video on the best bench saw planer etc.
Does any of this apply to worm or circular saw blades?
Have Diablo on Miter and new table saw. Used Masterforce from Menards on old table saw and still have them on my circular saws.
Looking into CMT now. Thanks for the info
Carbide Processors Cermet II saw blades.
What would you recommend for the Dewalt 8 1/4 blade from cmt
I'm from europe and in my own big box stores bosch blades are very common, in different price ranges, are the Bosches any good?
I have the SawStop CTS. I feel it lacks power. What would be the best blade for clean cut on plywood/melamine? I am a hobbyist and not ready for a blade for every cut.
Will a Combination 60T with painters tape give me a great cut?
Also, what about kerf size? I know thin nerf will give the CTS a little more power but what about blade flex or wobble?
Thanks
This is a really concise video. I watched one prior to this and it was so much blah blah blah... I just wanted plain information told to me in a reasonable amount of time.
The only other blade I've used is Diablo. Should I try other brands or honestly they all do the same.
what do you think about the Spyder table saw blades
Enjoyed the video! Just picked up a 50 tooth Diablo combo for a new table saw. Been happy with it so far.
Side note: How’s that ice down in Monticello? We have 1 inch plus of ice on our driveway in Sheridan.
We didn’t get any accumulation here
Perhaps I am asking a question I should not; however, I have been looking at a Woodpecker blade for my Festool Kapex. I have been using the original blade but it is time for a sharpening or possible replacement. What are your thoughts for the quality from Woodpecker or should I stay with a Festool blade?
I've had my 40T ATB Forrest Woodworker II General Purpose Blade for a year now and it cuts today as good as it did with the first cut.
Nice
I’m still using the stock blade that came on my miter saw 😎 😬
sir is it okay to replace 7 1/4 inches to 10 inches?
Another great video. Information I needed.
I have Freud or Diablo saw blades
Thank you for the tips! 6:30 - Dd you actually take selfie with your miter saw when you bought it? :D
lol yes I did.
What is the purpose of those serpentine cuts in the blades?
You're the man, Matt.
👊🏻
What happened to your delta cruzer miter saw? Mine was stolen
Always Great Information,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 👍
