It is a 288 GTO GROUP B: which referred to be a class of the fastest, most powerful and sophisticated rally cars. It is a rally car plain and simple. Rally cars love some dirt and to be played with. The driver does what the car is capable and designed for.
viowave They never made a Group B spec 288 GTO. The title is a joke; they're just driving a regular 288 GTO. They did convert a few *308 GTOs* for rally use, but that's completely different.
Dave Doyle The 288 GTO was designed for Group B. One of the requirements was that you need 200 road cars or so. It however never entered any race, because the class was abandoned by the death of a race driver. Regular or not - the initial design was rally, so who says you can't drive a dirt road sportively with a 288 GTO, designed with the eye for rally. It's like saying that you can't drive "sportive" in a F40 on a track, because it is just initially designed as a regular road car. The 308 GTO did entered the rally like you said. Lovely lovely car as well.
viowave I didn't say you couldn't drive a 288 on the dirt. The title of the video is supposed to be funny, because they didn't actually make a Group B spec. Please show me pictures of a Group B spec 288 GTO, because I haven't found any.
Dave Doyle Every 288 GTO had the requirements for Group B specs in terms of body work and engine. But you do are right in terms that no specific 'official' race ready Group B 288 GTO was made. Just like the 492 built of Lancia Stratos had the requirements for Group 4 specs back in the 70's / 80's to meet the FIA regulations. Pretty much like the 288 GTO the Stratos was purely designed for rally. The main difference was that the Stratos did enter the race and like we both know the 288 GTO didn't. Yet the 288 GTO had the group B specs to begin with. This as originally Ferrari wanted that the 308 on which the 288 GTO was based, was the street version of the B Group rally car in short. The FIA didn't buy it so 272? 288's were build in the process to meet the requirements. It was to enter the race back in '86 the same year Group B was cancelled.

But I can't be sure...

me and my buddies used to huddle around the screen in computer class in highschool to watch your videos in free time. i miss those guys and those days, dreaming of our futures
Love this video. Cars are made to be driven and I don't care if it's a Ferrari or a Lada.... but that Fram oil filter.... REALLY.,..... have some respect for the engine dude.
And some trees. And a few hay bales. And a 512TR racer that was sitting by the verge engulfed in tire smoke. Excellent car control coupled with a large dose of insanity.
I like this channel, they actually have good drivers! Not some stupid guys burning clutches trying to do a burnout, or crashing while showing off on the highway
The standard 288 GTO was not meant for Group B actually. This is a misconception a lot of people get wrong. The 288 GTO was originally intended to take back the supercar market for Ferrari because they felt they were falling behind in the supercar market at the time because at the time, they only had the 308 type of Ferraris in the market. According to Nicola Materrazi the engineer behind the 288 GTO, they knew that if they wanted to trounce Group B that Ferrari had to create the 288 Evoluzione which is the version of the 288 GTO that was meant for Group B, again not this version. After Group B was banned by the FIA they modified the Evoluzione to become the Ferrari F40. It is still a great car nonetheless, and I would love to own one.
Why then did they homologate the GTO for Group B? Even the name is the abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato. Yes the car was supposed to help with their falling sales but they knew they had to build 200 of them anyway. They already had 2 cars developed previously for Group B(the 308 GTB Group B and the 308 GT/M) so they had quite alot of experience which they hoped would help them beat the competition.Because no-one else except Porsche with the 959 had decided to compete in Group B Racing, they never actually raced it. The homologation papers are available online to view btw. There were originally meant to be 20 or 25 EVO's built (which was within Group B regulations) which were essentially development/protoype 288 GTO's built purely for contesting in the Group B racing series. But then Group B was cancelled and Enzo said "screw this" and gave the order to develop the F40 from the GTO Evo
If you are going to make a video of this awesome beast. Have the common decency to turn off the music after you start the engine. It is very rare that anyone gets to hear that beautiful Ferrari turbo zing.

Ive seen them go for well over a million dollars these days. The price was around $700,000 about 5 years ago but it has more than doubled since then!
so farmers drive classic ferraris these days? i'm in the wrong business...
Hahahahaha
guguigugu Subsidies allow them many toys.
Yes Farmers actually have more money than the idiots from Wall Street you see, it's a normal thing! LOL Get real!
He also drove an eb110 the same way. I was crying the whole video :(
Farmers also have fleets of Lamborghinis. They are all tractors though.
Ken Block wants his video back. Also, hilarious license plate! 😂
Isn't that Stig?
whats better than having a supercar collection?
drive them hard on own playground!
if its not enough - film it!
Keep it guys, you're making the best automotive show, better then TG
Some say, now that he lost his job at the BBC, he fights for every Penny making videos for youtube and that if there was ever a person to drive cars like this Ferrari properly, it was him! All we know, he is called the employed Stig ;D
This is the greatest thing I have ever seen. Absolutely love the 288 GTO
If someone told me, you could have any Ferrari ever made... This would be the one!
Fram filter & all... HA!
I agree. There’s definitely more expensive classic Ferrari’s and faster too, but none cooler than the 288 GTO!
u would get a 250 gto and sell it to get about 15 of these
@@sofialovestoys143 gwhwehss.
!AAA!
To each of their own, I love the 288, but my fav horse is still the 250 testa rossa
TaxTheRich100, don't ever stop being awesome. Great to see someone that's not afraid to take his cars out for a spin!
One of the most beautiful videos I’ve ever watched, it really gave me goosebumps! Forza Ferrari!
I'm sure this guy is on Maranello's blacklist lol
This guy knows how to handle a beast!
Mister you have balls of Steel and Skills of Panther to drive this beautiful car like this. I even don’t ride my cars in a game like this to get no damage. 😱 this is the most beautiful and riskful driving I have ever seen by such a car on RUclips. You Must be a Perfect driver or very Rich that you dont care about car damage or all together. ✌️
ABSOLUTELY EPIC! not only do you have impeccable taste in supercars, you can actually and DO drive them like that should be! now post a vid of that F40 LM you had to tease us with at the end! =D
The Ferrari 288GTO - Group B Spec
thank you very much for this pleasure, dear sir! what a car, astonishing!
AMAZING!! but be careful with it!
Awesome drive and epic video :)
you are crazy!!
Magnum p i on meth.
This is still my most fav farrari of all time , love this as a kid . I remember buying the model as a kid from Beatties store for £10 . ❤️
The meanest looking Ferarri ever made in my opinion. Love it.
I'm not much of a car guy, but through the smoke at the end of the film there's a car that almost resembles the Ferrari Classiche Certified 1991 Ferrari F40 GT Prototype #6 s/n 74047, prepared by Michelotto to CSAI-GT specs in 93', which was sold by DK Engineering in October for €1,172,869 and now resides in Cottingham. But I can't be sure...
not much of a car guy, a ? :))
Someone knows who the owner is lol
A masterpiece of all the times 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
2:05 The 288 GTO must have have a 80% locking differential. I never seen one tire stop spinning from the other. How I lust after this car. Ferrari needs to bring the gated shifter back in at least one of their cars.
+Walt Heisenberg search on google "handbrake"
wow
Blimey! Very impressive and confident driving.
This is the best thing I've seen in 2020
1. What a wonderful car
2. Nice camera shots!
3. I saw the driver ;) :D
4. Keep on doing
5. Awesome!
And Iforgot to say, that it is a brilliant choice of music "Wagner - Walkürenritt" ! :)
Damn man, your videos are pure, clean awesomness that is poured straioght to my eyes! You're doing things, that I'd do, if I'd the money, so this is like fulfilling my dreams...
One of my favorite RUclips videos for many years.
A normal person doing this: Completely insane, should be interned in a mental Hospital asap
Rich guy: Oh he´s just eccentric.
Electric will never beat combustion engines in drivers experience!
combustion will never beat horse riding
1greenMitsi in a race it will

Try riding a golf cart if you wanna have a taste. Electric cars perform better on all parameters
Ever since I’ve seen the 1984 288 GTO as a kid, it’s always been my favorite Ferrari, and now this is my favorite video of one
Elwood:
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.
Jake:
Hit it.
The 288 GTO and the DeLorean - the best looking cars of all time (just my opinion). Great video!
lets see him drift a DeLorean! ofc he will need snow or something..
But you,re missing the F.S.O. Polonez & 1994 Feista / Escort with the smiley grill also the greatest in my veiw, real class.
a real iconic supercar don't just be in the garage seating pretty,
but the one that stands up and hammers around the track like this😎💗
This video has so much win in it, I don't even know where to begin...
Tax, you're a bloody awesome man. I wish there were more rich people who drives their nice cars like you do. Keep up the vids, and more nice cars.
GOD BLESS YOU MEN! saludos desde argentina!
Probably one of the best Ferrari videos in existence. 👏
I see from that final shot that you're the fellow who bought the F40 Michelotto from DK Engineering ...... nice. You're surely somebody who will give it a proper use, rather than have it sitting in a garaged. Looking forward to watching that video.
Cheers.
Wow so cool! Seeing it actually driven like the group B car it was meant to be, had a heart attack when you drifted out of the barn... But really a fram?!
Soon 10 millions vieuws, i take 100000 for me...love this video 👌🏻
Seriously. Who are you and why haven't you been awarded a nobel prize in epicness?
Some say that his underwear is made of gold, and that that in his wallet he keeps a photograph of his wallet, all we know is he’s not Ken Block. But he is Ken Blocks rich cousin!
Haha, some say he's so rich that he pays people to drive his cars for him because he's too busy talking smugly towards others haha.
Anyway hes called the taxtherich
Well put, Jeremy wouldn’t top that!
great to see an old car being driven and not rotting up somewhere inside
Love to see a museum piece be driven like its on the Late Night Version of TopGear....
Love it. Just the thought of all those prissy collectors/investors choking on their caviar and port makes me smile. I remember being around 6 or 7 years old and seeing and just as importantly, hearing a 275 GTB tearing away from some lights. Chances of seeing that now ? zero
+Mark Broadheaf haha well said
me and my buddies used to huddle around the screen in computer class in highschool to watch your videos in free time. i miss those guys and those days, dreaming of our futures
una delle piu' belle macchine mai costruite
The dream. In its purest form.
Who dislikes that awesome driving skill and lovely production with a legendary Ferrari
Love this video. Cars are made to be driven and I don't care if it's a Ferrari or a Lada.... but that Fram oil filter.... REALLY.,..... have some respect for the engine dude.
Speaking to the insurance adjuster: Well, I was doing doughnuts in my barn when I smacked the wall...
And some trees. And a few hay bales. And a 512TR racer that was sitting by the verge engulfed in tire smoke.
Excellent car control coupled with a large dose of insanity.
LOL
One of THE best exotic car vids on youtube. Period!
Would love to buy the driver a beer. For his epic skill as a driver
Coupa finally somebody else who knows the history of this car the evoluzione and the f40 and the reason the f40 existed in the first place
this is the shit, better styling by far than an f40 with 400 turbocharged horsepower in 1984. Beautiful AND collectible.
Im not a big fan of Ferraris, But tbh What a beautiful looking car.
🔥🔥⭐⭐This is one of the coolest videos Ive seen ⭐⭐🔥🔥
🏁Made my day.🏁
Jesus H Christ! My hats off to you for driving such a rare and collectible Ferrari to the limit.
Cutiya bna rhe ho harek engel par kemra hai you tube par pagal bnathe hai
That was far from the limit. These cars were meant to drive to 200mph or more, he was driving around a barn 60 mph at the most.
@@alfredooliva5175 I've owned Ferrari's and ment for a Ferrari because the car's are a bit more fragile compared to Porsches imo.
You are my hero make more vids. God if I had one one of your least favorite cars I'd feel complete.

The very best car content on RUclips!
2.2k people who disliked this video must be working for insurance firms. LOL
If you are going to make a video of this awesome beast. Have the common decency to turn off the music after you start the engine. It is very rare that anyone gets to hear that beautiful Ferrari turbo zing.
Oh come on man!! This is one of the greatest car videos ever. This is no run of the mill Ferrari. It’s one of the most desirable models ever.
HA! Finally someone who uses a sport car for what is created for !
I'm actually surprised the car can even move the sheer heft of his manly balls
Right? I was scared just watching the video
In my opinion the best looking Ferrari ever.
288 GTO what an absolutely perfect car, it even sounds the coolest thing ever!

It's funny, this car never really did it for me until this video. After watching this car in action, I see that this car is absolutely drop dead gorgeous! Really cool seeing a rare collectable be driven this way!
That's the way a Ferrari should be driven... Why ? Because HE GOT TO!!
Most beautiful car ever made in my opinion! Watching it being hooned is both spectacular and scary in equal measure! If anyone's got one, I'll buy it from you. Paying it off might take a while, but it'll be worth it.
I've been inspired to move to the middle of nowhere and start saving for a very non-sensible driveway...
