I’m deciding between trd pro Tacoma and a ranger raptor. Leaning to the Ford because of the v-6. The Tacoma is tempting because I know it will last the longest. I do like this zr2 bison as well but I’m set on the ranger raptor.
Why do you know the Tacoma will last the longest? Have you seen the recalls on them the last few years? More than the Colorado. Its not the 90's anymore different generation makes and models aren't the same and just because older certain year Tacomas were reliable doesn't mean this new gen with new parts and manufacturing will be.
They did not change the gearing for the larger tires. That's why it doesn't pull as well as the ZR2. IMO it should be re geared for the 35's. I don't care if it rubs at full lock. It's only at low speed when you can feel it easily and no harm done.
I went looking for a 4x4 truck in 2020..I looked at the colorado and the Tacoma. I didn't want a full size truck..The tacoma at the time, had a plastic bed..rear drum brakes.. and instead of a locking differential, it had a computerized braking that applied the brakes to which ever wheel was spinning.. Kinda defeats the momentum you need to get you up a hill or out of a mudhole...Plus the taco was about $6k more expensive. So I bought a new 2020 Colorado WT. (V6).$31k OTD 30k miles on it now... It had to have the trans flush at 6k miles.. So far (knock on wood) it's doing ok..
The Tacoma is one gen away from becoming a unibody. Guarantee they will be the first to switch the Tacoma to a unibody and try to sell it like it is the premium option
I agree. I’ll never buy a new Chevy. My work truck was a fresh off the line 2024 Silverado, and it was riddled with problems and mechanical issues after a year (~15k miles). I handed my boss the keys and went back to using my old F-250
No, its NOT better. But it IS cheaper. And when you consider that, its a better DEAL, not a better TRUCK. But 65k for a pro is just insane, toyota has lost their fucking mind. And thats comming from the owner of a 19 trd pro.
Bigger tires are a tough call if 90% of your driving is highway. You'll always lose acceleration, fuel mileage and performance with a larger heavier tire.
Given the pricing of these Tacoma's, I'd consider it, but I want a manual. I miss my manual. If the GMC Canyon offered manual transmission I'd be having a hard time choosing right now. Colorado's are near and dear to my heart, even if it is a garbage chevy.
Pretty Nice. However, if Jeep would just put the new SST hurricane engine in the Gladiator it would be class leading. It is like Jeep are intentionally sandbagging the Gladiator and killing it. It is the best midsize off-road centered pickup in every way except it's powertrain. The old pentastar v6 is just underpowered and uninspiring in that heavy of a vehicle.
TRD Pro all day my boy, more luxury features, no leaf spring suspension, more rear leg room, better rear visibility, better payload and towing figures, more hp & torque output while simultaneously expected to have far superior mpg #'s being a hybrid. No contest at all for a daily driver while still being plenty off road capable. Great compromise for the same or negligible price difference. Update: as of Nov 2023 the Colorado at least in lower trim's is coming back with electronics issues on digital display going completely dark, software update patches that drain vehicle battery overnight and rear back up camera failures. More to follow I'm sure.
@@Deadset.zr2I argue the price difference will be negligible and looks are subjective pal, I may like something that you don't and vice versa. If you got the cash for a $60k truck will a $62,999 one be a real deterrent? If you say Yes that bud is called hypocrisy and or bias. As far as the capability argument I've addressed this on the comment below but short version is the TRD is more than capable for it's consumer base and real world use case. Most truck owners concerns are centered around daily driving, usability, payload or towing and in today's Bidenomics world mpg #'s, not vertically crawling up a damn rock face, get real.
@@cuzz2895Sure, I agree the ZR2 is the more capable of the two but is that relevant? Most of these truck owners concept of off-road is driving down a dirt road or to some national or local park, I argue most will never attempt to rock crawl their vehicle into the wilderness. As a daily driver the TRD is far superior on everything from comfort, mpg, payload and towing while still being more than capable enough for 99% of its owners. If you're that hardcore that its capabilities are your one critique then you should opt for a custom jeep build to do all the Xtreme rock crawling you desire.
@@cuzz2895they're brand new every year, made from proven engines, transmissions and hybrid systems used in other models for years. Nice looking rig but it won't hold up to the Tacoma over time. North American vehicle manufactures are over focused on insignificant annual design changes whereas Toyota makes something brilliant then sticks to the design over a much longer cycle allowing the process and parts to become that much better over time; Japanese quality. As much as I'd like to buy fully American products, I don't trust the brands including the parts that are used within. Taco all the way 🌮
Does anyone know that Your Japanese technology is assembled in Mexico? Lmao. All you Tacoma boys crack me up, because you have no idea where your truck was assembled since 2021, which is when the Tacomas reliably started taking hits.
@@danhubbard9565 who’s saying Tacomas are built in Japan? Regardless where they’re assembled, Texas, California, or Mexico, the PPM quality data and resale value is second to none over 30+yrs. Japanese engineering and manufacturing processes are far superior to American as sad as that sounds.
Chevy really needs to update the interior to compete Ford and Toyota. Interior is bland steering wheel.. they've been said to have a lot of problems with the instrument panel as well.
How is this even a comparison one is the newest generation the other one has not been updated for 13 years. It is a shame the rear suspension is leaf springs after all the cool updates they did with the truck.
Having had a 2010 RAV4 V6 AWD Sport for 14 years/205k mostly trouble free miles now, I would lean towards a 'Taco....EXCEPT....they STILL don't have a front locker. WTF??? REALLY stupid move. So, I'll be ordering a 2024 ZR2. The about $11k price increase for the Bison with no engine upgrade isn't worth it to me. That's pricing it in Ranger Raptor territory and the 'Raptor has another 100hp. So, I'll just get a ZR2 and put a 1-2" lift and bigger fender flares on it so I can fit 35's and put a regular skidplate (non-boron steel) on the gas tank and rear diff, and I'll basically have a Bison upgrade for 1/3 the price.
If I had the money I'd buy the gen 2 version of this. They need to get rid of the leaf springs, have a rear mounted tire like on the jeep with a swing mount, upgrade their cameras, include a winch, work on the tire rubbing, higher HP, update the electronics.
Nice looking truck but all the tech is unnecessary and is outright garbage. It'll will only cost the owner more money in the not to distance future. The screen is way too big and in mind is a distraction for the driver. Why does anyone need a launch control in a small truck like this one. LOL The engine is too small hands down and they need to go back to a V6.

Where could I buy one I can’t find a place that sales them
The Tacoma is one gen away from becoming a unibody. Guarantee they will be the first to switch the Tacoma to a unibody and try to sell it like it is the premium option
Posted this on similar better than a Tacoma videos, unless it comes in a manual, the answer is always going to be no.
I agree. I’ll never buy a new Chevy. My work truck was a fresh off the line 2024 Silverado, and it was riddled with problems and mechanical issues after a year (~15k miles). I handed my boss the keys and went back to using my old F-250
As long as the Taco sets itself up for the L by having to use a four banger turbo then the Colorado and Tacoma are dead even
How is the ride on a long highway drive???
chevy stopped making quality trucks back in 1988
My 06 1500 4x4 5.3 w 240k towing a 32ft rv and no issues would beg to disagree
Can you engage the rear lockers and 2 Wheel Drive?
So how long till someone swaps a v6 into it
It’s beautiful.
No, its NOT better. But it IS cheaper. And when you consider that, its a better DEAL, not a better TRUCK. But 65k for a pro is just insane, toyota has lost their fucking mind. And thats comming from the owner of a 19 trd pro.
Super nice truck!
Why if a 33” spare would fit, why does Chevy like the 17” for other versions that large tires?
The Bison and Gladiator Mojave offer the jounce bump stops.
Payload is surprisingly low, the only bad mark I’d give it.
Bigger tires are a tough call if 90% of your driving is highway. You'll always lose acceleration, fuel mileage and performance with a larger heavier tire.
Is that rear spare lockable?
I’d love to drive this truck, it’s pretty. But I prefer tacos myself. The Colorado has had tech problems with its software with its last generation.
I had two. with zero problems with any software
What a beauty !
A 5 foot bed, with that beefy spare taking up a large chunk of space.
Toyota tried and true my boy and those seats don’t have shocks :)
Nice truck tho but the new trd pro looks beats
Good one 😂
For reals. Facts.
I take the Tacoma any day.
Needs at least a V6. Nissan has a great sounding V6
Given the pricing of these Tacoma's, I'd consider it, but I want a manual. I miss my manual. If the GMC Canyon offered manual transmission I'd be having a hard time choosing right now. Colorado's are near and dear to my heart, even if it is a garbage chevy.
can you elaborate with the garbage Chevy? lol
Tacoma is being offered in a manual.
I want the bigger fender flares
i cant wait to buy this truck and put 25mm wheel spacer on it 😅
I really like this truck not sure what to do
It looks good!
That camera man did not feel anything on that launch
I have a Tacoma and this whoops all of the new Toyota trucks by a long shot. The new Toyotas are hardly that different
Looks like a full size in the thumb nail
Yeah, it’s a beautiful truck, but with all that prettiness, it seems like all the functionality without by the wayside but that’s just my opinion
Beautiful truck
Do rear seats fold up ? Would be nice if it had rear powered sliding window
Torn between trying to get the at4x or. raptor
TRD will likely cost even more than this and be less capable and look like a 7 year old designed it
My 21 zr2 blows away any trd. Thats facts. This is even better
@@qbanlink25wait a sec…u baggin on my old uncle Joe?😅
can you buy those hydraulic bump stocks and install them on the regular zr2 ?
Tacoma all day long! it is proven, it will last longer!
How is a brand new tacoma,,, proven?????
@@cuzz2895they're brand new every year, made from proven engines, transmissions and hybrid systems used in other models for years. Toyota has been making vehicles long enough to know how to build them, what you think they're the #1 most sold truck in history for no reason, check your bias at the door.
@@cuzz2895 another loser troll that's got nothing else better to do.. you buy whatever piece of crap you want to buy and i'll stick to the number one selling mid-size pick-up Tacoma 15 years running......
And the fact you can get a tacoma with a manuel transmission!
@@qbanlink25check your facts. Ford and Chevy have sold more trucks than Toyota worldwide consistently
Do some research. The Colorado is more reliable than the Tacoma. At least since 2016
@shiftmotorsports9803 I have a 2016 Canyon just turned 90k miles.
Absolutely no issues. Love the thing.
Stupid comment, considering the Tacoma is all new and the Colorado is a heavy facelift.
Chevy really needs to update the interior to compete Ford and Toyota. Interior is bland steering wheel.. they've been said to have a lot of problems with the instrument panel as well.
For that price and you get a manual sliding rear window...way to go GM
Get yourself a Yeti mug! 😉
Bravo !
The Bison is cool but the zr2 will do 99% of what the Bison will for 11-12k less. In Mass I can order a zr2 for just under 50k
Any power outlets in the bed?
If I had the money I'd buy the gen 2 version of this. They need to get rid of the leaf springs, have a rear mounted tire like on the jeep with a swing mount, upgrade their cameras, include a winch, work on the tire rubbing, higher HP, update the electronics.
wouldn’t you be better off getting the new one at this point?
The gen 2 would be the new version lol.
And then you’ll bitch that it costs $80k lol
Cap on backwards and sunglasses. Funny!
ZR2 HELL YES
i think the lower payload has got to be from the 4 banger.
Good video. Garbage truck. Tacoma all day and every day. Also that bed looks like it was made in the 80s. Not to mention interior doesn't even look like a truck.
Trash opinion
I wouldn't call it garbage, it's a very capable truck but yes Toyota for the win for sure.
Kinda hard to respond properly when you have not driven THE TACOMA TRD PRO
Bison 109% over any other midsize.
Hearing lots of reliability issues with these already...sucks cus I really like this truck
Look wise from the outside I’d say I like how sporty and aggressive it looks more than the Tacoma in my opinion
No side step on 35" tire? That's not nice
They offer side steps that bolt onto the rock sliders.
You don't want steps in an offroad vehicle. Chevy did that right.
New Tacos built in Mexico. Don’t bet on longevity.
Cant beat a toyota engine, you can buy a Tacoma today and sell it in five years close to the price you baught it essentially buying a close to free truck...second best value homder vehicle in the world. Chevy engines are the worse, my mom had a Chevy, it was in yhe mechanic all the time, my brother baught a brand new chevy diesel truck..always in the mechanic!
dude honestly cannot go wrong with Toyota they are well-known for a reason. We had a 2019 Chevy Colorado that had transmission issues won the lemon case and took out a 2023 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road Lunar Rock in cash. Love that taco so much
@@amador4417 yes chevy is bad, ford too. Sadly all American car makers suck....toyota is the way to go . I picked up a taco last year 2022 brand new TRD Offroad, love it so much, no issues
@@amador4417 lunar rock is badass color
