    I own both AudioMobile and JL Audio shallow mount subs. AudioMobile 10” in my convertible and a JL TW3 12” in my truck. I was a hardcore JL Audio fan for decades but after having 2 cars with single AudioMobile 10s in each one I won’t go back. They slam and I listen to all types of music. The JL is legit but not enough to warrant the extra cost. Save the money and buy the AudioMobile sub

    Good review. The 10TW3 and 13TW5 are not only the best shallow subs but some of the best overall speakers money can buy. Audiomobile looks like a decent solution. The JL is hard to top when it comes to the ear test. The TW3 and TW5 both being USA built units as well.

    I've owned JL's my whole life. From 12w1's to 12w3's and 12w6's. Recently bought the Audiomobile EVO 12's and put them on the same amp as I had the 12w3's on. I love them both but the Audiomobile's play a little lower and have a lower frequency response in my set up. I'm also using about .3 cubic feet smaller box for the EVO's. I don't think you can loose either way... both are really good subs but to me the Audiomobile's edge out the W3's. @breaker I'd be interested in seeing the W6's vs the Audiomobile Encore?!!😊

      @@harrisone79 oh so the countless millions of people buying and praising natural linear sounding speakers that cost as much as cars must all have it wrong , I prefer my subwoofers to have a flat response in the low end. The more linear the better across the lower frequency range . Most people do not want to hear a subwoofer that has a large drop or peak in it's usable frequency range makes music very un natural sounding . Now full range speakers I actually like a dip at 4k and the highs to roll off a bit that's just my taste. But a subwoofer or mid bass I want a flat linear response across the usable frequency range I don't want it to be boomy in the 50 or 60 hz range and I don't want a huge drop in out put from 50 to 40hz. That's not natural. And matters . In other words I respectfully disagree a linear response does matter when listening not just box building info. Also this video is with speakers already in boxes.

    • @harrisone79
      @harrisone79 Год назад +3

      @@paulgood2218 no mention of room/ cabin gain. Acoustical treatment and eq, all these matter. Especially w high end speakers. And a small sub in a small box w never reach down below 40 hz w any decent extension. I've done car audio for over 25 yrs. And not once have I heard a thin mount sub perform better than the JL audios especially if can add a tad more air space to the enclosure. And yes linear response matters but if it's completely flat it don't sound natural. And to use a Memphis amp for testing is a joke. Might as well used a kingwood swap meet special amp.

The audio mobile is a better sounding sub and it's very impressive. That is not to say the JL audio is a bad sub. It is a great subwoofer . I also like the illusions shallow Mount subwoofer. I admit I am a biased JL fanboy. I still prefer JL over the AudioMobile because of familiarity with the brand and the quick, accurate bass JL subs provide. Plus the db at frequencies above 70-80 wouldn't really apply in my situation because I have my low pass filter set at 80hz., my front stage picks it up from there. So JL actually out performs in the frequencies that I have them for.

    Specs and the rta are all fine, but, which is more musical? Which will play more types of music, better? Which will last longer? What are the warrantees? If something were to go wrong, how difficult is it to get a repair/replacement? It's isn't all just about the numbers.

    • @BreakersStereo
      @BreakersStereo  Год назад +2

      Agreed there’s definitely more to think about when making this decision. Between the two in my opinion, one wasn’t drastically more musical than the other. As far as which will last longer my opinion is the voice coil is built much better on the audiomobile versus the JL audio because of its size. Both have a one year warranty as far as getting it repaired or replaced. Most car stereo shops will swap out the sub if they have it in stock as a customer service courtesy. Most brands will allow for a replacement so most shops don’t mind pulling from their inventory so the customer doesn’t have to wait weeks to get the woofer back. But that will vary from shop to shop technically you have to send it to the manufacturer and then they will send you back another one, so I could take weeks possibly up to one month that’s why shop so accommodate their customers.

  • @sassinator21
    @sassinator21 Год назад +1

    So here’s my thoughts. Your human and you like specs… well we like having specs on the amp equipment you used and position of the microphone. I saw you adjusting a bass knob too and I’m sure that has to deal with the power difference between the 2 sets of subs. But that also plays with the dynamics between the subs. I can definitely see the difference that you also made between to two subs for the height… the impressive part is that being almost .7 inch smaller that the JL audio put out some impressive db numbers with as close of the Xmas is in specs.
    I’ll definitely say the audiomobile (dumb company name) is impressive to that it has a lower frequency Fs and that it perform better in the deep regions of frequencies… I’ll definitely tip my hat to them and will be looking more intently at them when making my choice of shallow mount subs due to myself replacing the crappy no airspace premium sub in my gladiator.

    You said when jl jumped more than 3 decibels, however you want no more than 3-4 decibels between frequency rang, in other words it needs to be more linear. Clearly the jl is very punch bass heavy and the lows would struggle to make a showing unless you turn it up, further exasperating the non linear db curve. Though in your testing they both have a very good linear curve

  • @jdrissel
    @jdrissel 11 месяцев назад +2

    7:38 I think I can see where the JL wins. The other frequency response curve is just wacky. The JL can probably be equalized to hit 32hz flat and sound good doing it, or more like 45hz and hit twice as hard. But that other woofer - I would have rejected that response curve before I built the box because I don't think it will sound good even with equalization. I suspect the JL will sound quite natural, especially with some eq (+12db at 32 hz with a 12db/octave slope and a really sharp infrasonic filter at about 25 hz just to protect the woofer) would be my best guess as to where it would end up.
    At 9:49 look at all those other frequencies in the output when playing 80hz. It is not sounding clean to me...

      @@kriptic22 you must be a JL hater…
      Couple things about the test…
      1) Box was spec’d to the Audio Mobile, a tad small for the JL’s (admittedly, may not make much difference, but if they’re doing optimum set ups, both subs should be in their optimum enclosures).
      2) what’s the sensitivity of the two subs? How do they compare?
      3) Saying that the Audio Mobiles can handle more power is a bit miss leading…they’re RATED for more, but don’t necessarily handle more… I KNOW those JL’s can handle 1000-1200 watts, making them a fairly robust build and able to have higher output…can the Audio Mobiles also handle 20-30% more power without any issues?
      4) the JL’s also pound in a ported enclosure..we build ours tuned to about 32hz (and put aforementioned 1000watts on them)… how do the Audio Mobile’s handle ported enclosures?
      5) This is nitpicking, but how often do you set up a subwoofer crossed over at 100hz??
      Yes, the Audio Mobile is an impressive subwoofer based on these tests, but this comparison doesn’t account for all real world variables.

That is NO apples to apples comparison..I don't trust companies if they don't use exactly the same circumstances...They should measure these units FREE AIR in a nearfield measurement...This way they can reliably measure different subwoofers and cancel out most variables..

      I hear what you’re saying and if we would’ve given the JL the 1000 watts then we would have technically driving the speaker more than it’s capabilities. Is it a fair comparison??? I know they’re definitely in different power classes, but the point to this video was to demonstrate small space, big bass within this price range and since JL has dominated this category with the TW3 for a long time this is a good alternative that handles more power, is louder and is less money.

One way X-max is the amount of one way excursion with the coil still withing the gap while there is very likey capable of more excursion the x mech like sundown saying the X and Z having say 28mm of xmax yet they say capable of 4" peak to peak that would be 50mm of x mech.

    I actually own these 2 subwoofers…. purchased the Audio Mobile because I heard it was the JL killer. For trucks… ITS NOT.. Believe it or not that 3.25 vs 3.9 mounting depth makes all the difference in the world and makes all these comparisons irrelevant in a truck application. ( If going dual subs) Unless you raise the back seats is it very difficult to fit the Audio Mobiles while giving them their proper space volume. They sounded muddy, lacked SPL… and where just choking. I decided to purchased the JL TW3,no mods needed….It was a night and day difference. The JL where better in every single way, Louder and cleaner. This was for an 2017 Ford 150. I still have the brand new Audio Mobiles in the garage…waiting to see if I sell or just try to fit them in another install. They are very nice subs, but IMO they just cant compete with the JL when ultra low slim profile is a must.

    • @canillocanillo3371
      @canillocanillo3371 Год назад

      @@anthonyharris6165 In a single sub application the comparisons on this video are more accurate, assuming you have the clearance to fit the deeper Audio Mobile. One benefit of the Audio mobile is that if using only 1 sub, you can add the passive driver, that requieres no volume.. just the space to fit it… and would increase your output noticeably. Also the amplifier you have will be an important consideration because the JL is more sensitive, so it will requiere less power.
