7:38 I think I can see where the JL wins. The other frequency response curve is just wacky. The JL can probably be equalized to hit 32hz flat and sound good doing it, or more like 45hz and hit twice as hard. But that other woofer - I would have rejected that response curve before I built the box because I don't think it will sound good even with equalization. I suspect the JL will sound quite natural, especially with some eq (+12db at 32 hz with a 12db/octave slope and a really sharp infrasonic filter at about 25 hz just to protect the woofer) would be my best guess as to where it would end up. At 9:49 look at all those other frequencies in the output when playing 80hz. It is not sounding clean to me...
Great video . The linear response from the audio mobile is so very impressive and the clear winner by a mile . And I have the jl tw3s 12s . And next time I'm definitely going audio mobile
@@harrisone79 oh so the countless millions of people buying and praising natural linear sounding speakers that cost as much as cars must all have it wrong , I prefer my subwoofers to have a flat response in the low end. The more linear the better across the lower frequency range . Most people do not want to hear a subwoofer that has a large drop or peak in it's usable frequency range makes music very un natural sounding . Now full range speakers I actually like a dip at 4k and the highs to roll off a bit that's just my taste. But a subwoofer or mid bass I want a flat linear response across the usable frequency range I don't want it to be boomy in the 50 or 60 hz range and I don't want a huge drop in out put from 50 to 40hz. That's not natural. And matters . In other words I respectfully disagree a linear response does matter when listening not just box building info. Also this video is with speakers already in boxes.
@@paulgood2218 no mention of room/ cabin gain. Acoustical treatment and eq, all these matter. Especially w high end speakers. And a small sub in a small box w never reach down below 40 hz w any decent extension. I've done car audio for over 25 yrs. And not once have I heard a thin mount sub perform better than the JL audios especially if can add a tad more air space to the enclosure. And yes linear response matters but if it's completely flat it don't sound natural. And to use a Memphis amp for testing is a joke. Might as well used a kingwood swap meet special amp.

Been on jl audio for almost 30 years the problem is is that the technology is literally that old and better things have come along. Waiting on JL to come out with a new line
I can hear the difference playing the diff frq. then I replayed while watching the laptops free graph….. the JL IS REPRODUCING CLEANER TONES, the AM is outputting a wider range of tones further out than whats playing & fluctuating. The JL while is giving lower db it’s difficulty giving a better sound. if the db or louder is more important to you…. Than AM will deliver the db just don’t forget to feed it an additional 200w

Glad I came across this. currently have 2 Kicker CompVT think the Evos would perform better in the box I have. Running them in a double cab Silverado in a bow with .6cf of airspace per side..
JL Audio is king, quality over quantity. Pick JL Audio. And remember you don't have space and its also true you don't need over extra watts or RMS, cone area and excursion is king and sealed will give you better musical sound then ported on small space's. Jl Audio has patent technology that other thin subwoofers don't have. JL Audio is KING. Do it once and right. JL Audio is for Sound Quality Loudness (SQL) and the Audiomoblie EVO2410 10" is for Sound Pressure Loudness ( SPL) very different things here, that he doesn't tell you, but I will. What are you looking for ? SPL or SQL ? Plus the enclosure he put those JL Audio subwoofers looked to big, you need a 1. 00 cu ft enclosure for those JL AUDIO subwoofers to work not a big cu ft enclosure, what about the TUNING HRZ of the enclosure , example: 26hrz - 68hrz bandwidth and on car Amplifier should always be tune to 80hrz starting point. This men doesn't tell you that, his business is only selling you crapy Audiomobile Subwoofers and pocketing money. BUY JL AUDIO and LOOK FOR A JL AUDIO RETAIL STORE INSTEAD. Good Luck and keep bassing 😃
I'm still running my Audio mobile Mass 2012 made in 2000 by TC sounds. It is hands down the best sounding Sub I have ever heard and that's why I'm still running a 24 yo sub!
lol both subs have the same recommended air space and the JL lost. JL makes great stuff but yall fanboys think that it’s unbeatable and that’s just not true…here’s the proof 😂
SQ wise it looks like the Audiomobile is better since the response is more linear across the bass frequencies rather than peaking between 50-60 Hz like the JL does. Audiomobile has been a good brand for a long time and is no slouch in terms of high end performance.
Specs and the rta are all fine, but, which is more musical? Which will play more types of music, better? Which will last longer? What are the warrantees? If something were to go wrong, how difficult is it to get a repair/replacement? It's isn't all just about the numbers.
Agreed there’s definitely more to think about when making this decision. Between the two in my opinion, one wasn’t drastically more musical than the other. As far as which will last longer my opinion is the voice coil is built much better on the audiomobile versus the JL audio because of its size. Both have a one year warranty as far as getting it repaired or replaced. Most car stereo shops will swap out the sub if they have it in stock as a customer service courtesy. Most brands will allow for a replacement so most shops don’t mind pulling from their inventory so the customer doesn’t have to wait weeks to get the woofer back. But that will vary from shop to shop technically you have to send it to the manufacturer and then they will send you back another one, so I could take weeks possibly up to one month that’s why shop so accommodate their customers.
Yea, those Audiomobile Mass 12's were killer back in the day. I think they were one of a very few subs around that used underhung voicecoils. I just remember their CEO or whatever from back then was a complete douche, and turned a lot of people off to the company.
I have 2 10 Hertz 250's shallows being driven by an Incriminator 1500 @ 1 ohm. One of the Hertz burned up and blew. Sucks! The sub itself is okay, but I won't recommend them
I've always disliked TW3's, they just never sounded right to me. JL can build quite literally the best conventional subwoofer in the world (yes, the W7) but they sill have much work to do on their shallow mounts.
So correct me if i am wrong...BOTH chart were from different magazines and different measurement circumstances?? That is NO apples to apples comparison..I don't trust companies if they don't use exactly the same circumstances...They should measure these units FREE AIR in a nearfield measurement...This way they can reliably measure different subwoofers and cancel out most variables..
Both charts were from the same magazine and in the same lab with the same circumstances but not for the same article. The articles were done independent from each other. They were not tested free air but in their recommended enclosures. Hope that clears it up for you.
@@BreakersStereo The “Audiomobile” brand actually dates back to the late 80’s and defined ‘State of the Art’ electronics for many years. The Brand relaunched in 2K, as Subwoofer only line.
AudioMobile was the first company to showcase a car in their booth at the 1976 summer CES show, and was the first company to exhibit a high-powered car audio system at the Las Vegas winter CES show, outside between the Convention Center and Hilton Hotel.
Unless I'm mistaken you said you were going to run JL sub at 800 watts and the other at 1,000 watts, how is that a fair comparison? Ummmm..its not..what if a customer only has 800 watts per channel. Who wins then?
I hear what you’re saying and if we would’ve given the JL the 1000 watts then we would have technically driving the speaker more than it’s capabilities. Is it a fair comparison??? I know they’re definitely in different power classes, but the point to this video was to demonstrate small space, big bass within this price range and since JL has dominated this category with the TW3 for a long time this is a good alternative that handles more power, is louder and is less money.
Wrong... one way X max is not maximum excursion... It max linier excursion, maximum excursion is called x-mech. One way X-max is the amount of one way excursion with the coil still withing the gap while there is very likey capable of more excursion the x mech like sundown saying the X and Z having say 28mm of xmax yet they say capable of 4" peak to peak that would be 50mm of x mech.
Funny in my area I see more audio mobile being sold at shops then JL they are now irrelevant because so many brands now that can compete at a fraction on the cost i have 2 ab12 1200rms I can do a 148.9at 38hz in a 2002 Acura MDX suv
The tape measure reading with the grills on was actually 1/2" not a 1/4", makes a difference when putting a sub in a tight space like behind a seat. Great video though.
I actually own these 2 subwoofers…. purchased the Audio Mobile because I heard it was the JL killer. For trucks… ITS NOT.. Believe it or not that 3.25 vs 3.9 mounting depth makes all the difference in the world and makes all these comparisons irrelevant in a truck application. ( If going dual subs) Unless you raise the back seats is it very difficult to fit the Audio Mobiles while giving them their proper space volume. They sounded muddy, lacked SPL… and where just choking. I decided to purchased the JL TW3,no mods needed….It was a night and day difference. The JL where better in every single way, Louder and cleaner. This was for an 2017 Ford 150. I still have the brand new Audio Mobiles in the garage…waiting to see if I sell or just try to fit them in another install. They are very nice subs, but IMO they just cant compete with the JL when ultra low slim profile is a must.
I was looking for a comment like this. I'm being indecisive for a single in my tacoma( behind the seat application). I have a skar vd 10 shallow 500w rms currently
@@anthonyharris6165 In a single sub application the comparisons on this video are more accurate, assuming you have the clearance to fit the deeper Audio Mobile. One benefit of the Audio mobile is that if using only 1 sub, you can add the passive driver, that requieres no volume.. just the space to fit it… and would increase your output noticeably. Also the amplifier you have will be an important consideration because the JL is more sensitive, so it will requiere less power.

The seal box for the tw3 holds the sub back. Put it a ported box you would truly be shock.
Exactly. My truck did 135.7 @ 42 with a ported pair of 10TW3s. I would still love to try out the Audiomobiles, though.
Great video . The linear response from the audio mobile is so very impressive and the clear winner by a mile . And I have the jl tw3s 12s . And next time I'm definitely going audio mobile
Linear response doesn't matter in music. Your dealing w transients not fixed signals. Spec sheets are meant for box building not musical response.
@@harrisone79 up till you Dayton audio reference, 10 only 5 inch mounting depth and this audio mobile. I completely agree. I literally sold my jail audio. TW312s to keep the dating reference under my back seat, there are better sounding sub in my application jail audio makes some amazing sounding shallow subs but being this video is comparing two subs already mounted in boxes and equal environment and I've had real experience with both subwoofers and this video. The audio mobile is a better sounding sub. Not by much better. It is in my experience if you get a chance to have hands-on experience with this subwoofers and recommended an applications and boxes, I am convinced you will also agree. The audio mobile is a better sounding sub and it's very impressive. That is not to say the JL audio is a bad sub. It is a great subwoofer . I also like the illusions shallow Mount subwoofer. But I have not had personal experience in a hands on build with illusions. I've only heard it in demo vehicles.
Are you posting your top 10 shallow mount subwoofer video anytime soon?
Is it me or does the JLs sound fuller and a little louder on the music tracks?
Been on jl audio for almost 30 years the problem is is that the technology is literally that old and better things have come along. Waiting on JL to come out with a new line
I can hear the difference playing the diff frq. then I replayed while watching the laptops free graph….. the JL IS REPRODUCING CLEANER TONES, the AM is outputting a wider range of tones further out than whats playing & fluctuating.
The JL while is giving lower db it’s difficulty giving a better sound.
if the db or louder is more important to you…. Than AM will deliver the db just don’t forget to feed it an additional 200w
Excellent comparison video!!! This answer all questions consumers need to know. Would you do a comparison between Automobile EVO 10” vs Image Dynamic IDQS 10”
You feel a audiomobile 10 will still sound good in the trunk of my Camry ?
Any chance you can compare the 12" version vs. the JL Audio 12TW3 and the illusion C12?
Absolutely love the testing method!
Test this sub agains the New Hertz MPS 250 shallow sub.
Can you do Rockford t1s1 -12 inch slim?
Check out sundown audio sd4. Another high end model to compete in the vs
Yeah we sell that woofer and that one is 🔥🔥
How do they compare to the DD and Kicker Lt?
Audiomobile’s been around for years in the high end car audio market and it shows. JL’s are fine too but have nothing to prove at this point.
Realy nice thanks for the comperison , interesting to see 👍🏻
Would that work in a convertible?
Since when audiomobile been back? i used to have 2 12" audiomobiles i think they were made by tc sounds they sounded very accurate
Yea, those Audiomobile Mass 12's were killer back in the day. I think they were one of a very few subs around that used underhung voicecoils. I just remember their CEO or whatever from back then was a complete douche, and turned a lot of people off to the company.
I have 2 jl audio 10w3d8 in a stealthbox under my back seat I really need 2 more to make a new center console in my truck
Got any test with the ds18 ixs shallow subs?
Try digital design shallow mounts and see what you think
How big of a box do you need if you want to use the passive radiator?
You can add the passive radiator to each woofer with no additional air space.
@@BreakersStereo Thanks! for responding
How about the SkarVD10??!
But how does it stack up to the TW5?
Can you test the Critical Mass UL series
The Ev basket looks like the rockford fosgate's P3S basket. Maybe that would be a better comparison.
I swapped a 12tw3 for sundown sd3. The sd3 just as clean, but with way more output.
What nice!! Love those SD3 super under the radar. We need to do a review on those soon.
I know this is an older video, but does anyone know what the outer diameter of the Evo is? I only have 10.5 inches to work with.
Now we have the Alpine new R2 shallows and the Hertz 250 shallows, I wonder how all 4 compare with one another! Any Experience?
I have 2 10 Hertz 250's shallows being driven by an Incriminator 1500 @ 1 ohm. One of the Hertz burned up and blew. Sucks! The sub itself is okay, but I won't recommend them
@@Troutslayer haha sorry that sucks! I would never provide that much power to a shallow sub. Inevitable to blow
The JL's sounded better.... especially at 40hz...! A clear difference in SQ.
Was the box two separate .5 chambers or one 1 cu ft enclosure?
Separate cambers. .5 per woofer
Try the alpine type R RS-W10D4
What is the height dimension of the Evo 2410 with the grille on?
He said what it was starting around 2:17 it’s a 1/4 difference
Great job Josh!
I've always disliked TW3's, they just never sounded right to me. JL can build quite literally the best conventional subwoofer in the world (yes, the W7) but they sill have much work to do on their shallow mounts.
Throw a Digital Design in there...curious
mcar test would be phenominal
AudioMobile vs. Hertz Mille?
That would be a good one. The power handling is the same so it’s more of an equal comparison.
Hope that clears it up for you.
wasn't audiomobile around a long time ago? early 2000s?
Yes I think so there out of vagas
Yeah they’ve been around for a while but remained in the shadows for a while
@@BreakersStereo The “Audiomobile” brand actually dates back to the late 80’s and defined ‘State of the Art’ electronics for many years.
How much did they pay you to advertise for them?
informative video..thanks for sharing.😊
Thanks for the comment !
Audiomobile was better then jl in it's days
2:19 you say 1/4” but are showing a 1/2” difference in hight
Theres a new shallow king, hertz MPS.
Awesome 🤩
Wrong... one way X max is not maximum excursion...
I pick jl on name and sq alone
Funny in my area I see more audio mobile being sold at shops then JL they are now irrelevant because so many brands now that can compete at a fraction on the cost i have 2 ab12 1200rms I can do a 148.9at 38hz in a 2002 Acura MDX suv
Audiomobile is making a name for themselves and car stereo shops are getting behind the brand. But 148.9 is loud for two 12's Bravo!!
400 dollar subs. You consider 30 dollars cheaper a fraction of the price? Look up the definition of the phrase you are using incorrectly
The tape measure reading with the grills on was actually 1/2" not a 1/4", makes a difference when putting a sub in a tight space like behind a seat. Great video though.
Alpine Type R shallow mount 10 inch sub can blow both of these away with 600 watts rms.
try playing dj magic mike, bass music
ALSO, you didn't show clamped power per sub in any capacity. So.. .again... useless.
Y'all really showing the bias here.
I have 5.5 inches of mounting depth and .6 cubic ft of airspace( sealed). Thats plenty for both. I'm unfamiliar with radiators. Would you care to explain... I thought the were a separate unpowered driver.
I’ll buy your EVO are they new? 10”?
@@jorgegranados194 Brand new, Installed them in a box and they didnt fit. They have been put away and stored protected the entire time.
Try equal power
"scaled to 1w/1m" meaning it wasn't testing 1w/1m
Cool story. Useless comparison.
Nice to know but I'd never buy a shallow subwoofer that's a horrible Idea to me
My L7 shallow crushes it 🤷🏻
That's not what XMAX is... but whatever.
Sundown Sd3 And Sd4
😍😍🤩🤩
😢😢😢 I don’t want to believe it 😅😅
200 more watts....
I've heard the 13tw5 , thing is a beast.. I now bought a sundown sd neo hoping it'll perform simular. If not. I'll have to get a 13tw5
Get a 12TW3, way better
@@idmax haven't heard the 12 t3 yet. But 13tw5 was amazing for what it is. Sd4 has a bit more xmax. So I hope it'll perform equal to it
