Your tip about clipping the top tooth off from both sides was crucial! It made shoving the zipper back on so much easier. You've helped me save my favorite pair of boots, thank you so much!
Thank you SO MUCH for this!! I bought a pair of used boots worth $200 for $50 because of a broken zipper, and I fixed it in 30 seconds with your video :)
I had finer zipper teeth but using two sets of small needle nose pliers perpendicular to one another (one to bring the sides together and one to force them flat) worked a charm. My boots are not going to get tossed out just yet! Thanks a bunch!
This video saved me from having to replace my docs that have been with me for 5 years :'))) I couldn't really take the zipper off all the way since the leather at the top was folded over and way too thick to let the zipper pass through, and I did end up breaking one of the metal stoppers, but either way I still managed to get the zipper on again using this video and a bit of sheer force. Hoping that I can get another 5 years out of these shoes!! Thank you!!
Thank you for this video but is it possible I have the type of zipper that will not click back together? My zipper teeth are tiny and seem to be backed onto material that is not letting me access the two sides. I am actually sweating!
It took me over an hour (30cm bootzipper) , broke half of my nails, but it worked! Thanks a lot, you saved my weekend. By the way, it was the only usefull video I found to help me with my bootzipper problem.
You're very welcome! Yes, sometimes boots can be tricky because of the thickness of the leather and how close the zipper teeth are sewn in. Great work, though! All the best!
Thank you for such a great and helpful video! For the people saying you can’t button the zipper up, I had the same problem at first but then I stacked the zipper on top of the other side more, and used the edge of the plier nose to press the metal of one side down into the second side and it buttoned much more easily than using my fingers or nails. Just any needle nose pliers can work
Thank you very much! It was harder than you made it look but persistence paid off. The biggest problem I had was after buttoning the zipper up, keeping it together as I put the slider on. After several tries I was able to get it to work. I also had to remove a couple of teeth. But I was about to throw these boots away. Much appreciated!
omg, thank you soooo much.. I got cheated by a company that sold me boots online and the zipper was broken when got them.. I had tried on the right one, and then put them away till it rained.. till it was it wasn't for 2 months that I actually needed them, so by then it was too late to return them.. and I thought I just wasted $35.. but I feel great now, knowing this can be fixed 😁
Thanks so much! I was able to fix my very favorite boots. The sad thing is I let them sit in the closet for over a year before trying. I wasn't able to join the zipper by hand - It was a long YKK nylon type, but knowing how to take the stops off and slide the handle back on made all the difference. I was able to easily zip it down even though the teeth were not joined and once I started to zip up, the teeth joined perfectly. So Happy!
I’m about to use your tips for fixing a snowbib. I can fix every zipper except for this new design on my snowbib where the zipper teeth are angled downward instead of neutral or upwards. The zipper is also fused to a rubber panel for water proofing, so it’s impossible to repair via traditional methods 😊
I have a tall pair of boots with a zipper That is only for looks not function and it separated came off on one side and is missing a couple teeth. How can I fix it?
The key seems to be to get the boot zipped up without the slider on it. How do you do that? Been trying for over an hour to use my fingers to press the teeth together but I have zero results.
Unable to button up the zipper by hand (small plastic zipper). Finally succeeded to re-engage from the top. After zipping and unzip many time. Success on all the lenght. I had to use plier to adjust opening off the running key.
Great video, only problem is my dog chewed the one side removing the slider and some teeth so not sure it will work. Do you happen to live in Ontario LOL
I've got a lifetime of experience doing this 😀. One trick is to make sure that the teeth are falling in line like puzzle pieces. You have to use your index finger and thumbs to push the teeth together.
I'm having an issue wi the my boot and I've watched nearly all your videos and scoured the Internet but I can't seem to find anything. my zipper split from the bottom up, so when I walk it splits in the center I've got nothing wrong with the slider or anything but at the very bottom of the boot the teeth aren't together. how do I put them back together with out ruining the boot?
great video! do I follow the same procedure for a boot that's zipper is in the middle of the boot? there knee high boots and the zipper doesn't go all the way to the top. it's in the middle of the boot
If the zipper is stuck in the middle of the boot, there's probably something that it's catching on. Is there a sew line or a change in thickness of fabric where it's getting stuck?
hello! I'm having a massive struggle trying to repair my riding boot zipper. It can be zipped up most of the time without put it on but every time I put them on the zip separates in different parts. It is also quite difficult to zip it up but really easy to zip it down. I have cleaned all the zip and lubricate it and I have no result. Any ideas?
Do you mind sending me some images of the damage? I'm not sure what's happening, but if I can see some images, that might help in determining a solution. You can send them to hyrum@ucanzippers.com. Thanks!
Hi there, Would you be able to provide some advice on how to fix a zipper where the bottom has come undone? I accidentally broke my girlfriend's boot zipper, and really want to fix it. The portion of the zipper at the bottom, which I believe is normally sewn into the leather, has come free, so now the zipper sides can move independently, resulting in the zipper not closing. Will this require a full zipper replacement, or can the bottom be sewn back into the leather to fix the problem? Thanks!
You can two things. 1. take the boot to a cobbler and have them sew the bottom part of the zipper back into the leather. This requires skill because they have to sew back into the original holes because it's leather. Once it's sewn back in, the zipper should function again. 2. you can "button" the zipper together, then add a bottom stop. Once the bottom stop is in place, that will keep the two sides from moving independently. Hope that helps and let me know if you need further assistance. All the best!
2hrs finally got it fixed wooooooooo yeah .lol. I could not get teeth to lock togather from the bottom r middle so I started from the top .it was still hard but didn't take as long ..some of the teeth were bent down so I just took some tweezers and push them up so they would lock you in together and work my way down and then they lock together and zipper fixed easy thanks for the bid for a job
I have a pair of men's zip boots where the zipper gets stuck because the teeth towards the top get misaligned - I think because of a similar issue I see with these boots, which is that for whatever reason, the opening at the top of the boot is slightly flared outwards, so zipping the boot all the way to the top causes inevitable strain on the zipper ribbon and teeth, forcing them out of alignment. Not sure why a boot would be designed that way, but what's the best fix?
If the stops are plastic, then you'll need to either find stops to replace them OR you can sew in your own stops. If there are no stops at all, then most likely the manufacturer folded the top of the zipper tape in the construction of the boot. So again, you would need to find replacement top stops OR sew in your own stops. Hope that helps.
My boot is connected and still zips towards the top, but beneath it is where it came un zipped . The zipper won't allow me to go down past the part that is zipped closed . How would I fix that?
Hmmm....I'm assuming that you "buttoned" the zipper up to make the repair. If that's the case, then I would double check that the teeth are engaged properly. Sometimes they can look engaged, but they're actually a little offset.
My track came apart, is there any way to fix it so the zipper still stops at the top of the boot? I got it on, but it rests at the bottom of the boot and it looks horrible
Thanks so much for this video and is there a solution when the zipper teeth cannot be put back together once the slider has been removed (or any time)? Knee boots, tiny teeth, one zipper side is all but covered by leather trim.
+Hazel's arts and crafts sounds like you have a "u top" top stop. That said, you'll have to purchase pre-formed stops if you're going to make the repair because you cannot reuse plastic stops when they're broken off. You can find pre-formed stops here: www.zippershipper.com/top-stops-various-sizes-and-finishes They're a great company that we've been working with for years.
+cecilia biggs I'm not sure if your zipper is nylon coil, plastic molded, or metal. However, here's a good source to purchase pre formed stops: www.zippershipper.com/top-stops-various-sizes-and-finishes
Dang it I could do that rn. But miss Karen said no and she’s trashing them. Dang karen I just wanted my boots back :( But question I have a random broken tooth around the mid area (they are thin) and it’s comming undone from the boot any suggestions on how to fix that?
It sorta worked for me i put the zipper back on but when it comes back up n down it still doesnt zip so ima just leave the zipper at the top and stick my whole leg thru lol
you chose REALLY cheap boots to do this on. My 100%c leather riding boots are handmade, and the stoppers do not pop off at all. Literally at all,. They're glued and bound tightly.

can you pleaseeeee make a quick video on how to button the zipper together? I really need to fix my boot by Friday!
Did you get your boots fixed?
I think not
Thank you for this video but is it possible I have the type of zipper that will not click back together? My zipper teeth are tiny and seem to be backed onto material that is not letting me access the two sides. I am actually sweating!

OMG! I did it. It was a bit tricky with the teeth, but do it with feeling. You will get the hang of it. So excited. Havent worn my boots since years.
wow--saved a lot of money with this tutorial. Favorite Frye boots are now back in business. Thank you!

Great job huni , my problem is my boot zipper wont stay up it drives me mad can you help me plz 😫👍😉
Would be nice to see how you get the slider back on- your hands are blocking
Dude! You are the best! Thanks! Gonna try this on my boots!

You're welcome! Happy to help.
Wow, this is great! I hope I can get this method to work on my my boots. Thank you for sharing this!

I have a tall pair of boots with a zipper That is only for looks not function and it separated came off on one side and is missing a couple teeth. How can I fix it?
Amelya Williams that unfortunately will require a new zipper.
You make it look so easy
you make getting the stops off look so easy! I think I need to find a video on how to do that before I follow your good advice!
Wow! I never would thought about this! Thank you ❤️ so much!❤
Where can I purchase the tool you are using ?
What kind of pliers are you using so i can get the right tool to attempt this please
The key seems to be to get the boot zipped up without the slider on it. How do you do that? Been trying for over an hour to use my fingers to press the teeth together but I have zero results.
Thanks for this video! What do you do if the zipper is plastic, with plastic stops?
+Scribble you'll have to purchase new stops or whip stitch your own in. You can purchase pre-formed stops here: www.zippershipper.com/

Thank you! brilliant tutorial and now one functional pair of beautiful boots 👢
Wow. Saved my suede boots. Great video !!!
This video helped me in repairing my work boots, thank you
Exactly what I was looking for ...A very GOOD EXPLANATION and show and Tell Thank you very much ..
Great video, only problem is my dog chewed the one side removing the slider and some teeth so not sure it will work. Do you happen to live in Ontario LOL
Thank you! I can fix my girlfriends boots now!
Did you fix them? I’m planning on asking my guy to do this. I don’t have time or dexterity for them tiny parts😁
@@godlove5912 yep!
How do you button up the zipper so easily? No matter how I go about it, it won't come together
I've got a lifetime of experience doing this 😀. One trick is to make sure that the teeth are falling in line like puzzle pieces. You have to use your index finger and thumbs to push the teeth together.

I'm having the same issue!
same
Same but it is my whole boot
My boot zipper broke completely and came off. Is there a kit I can buy that is not a cheap zipper, but a quality, rugged replacement?
Brilliant! Just saved me a new pair of boots! Thanks!
great video! do I follow the same procedure for a boot that's zipper is in the middle of the boot? there knee high boots and the zipper doesn't go all the way to the top. it's in the middle of the boot

UCAN Zippers USA I meant to say the zipper slider is completely off the zipper. the zipper is intact, just need the slider replaced.
If the slider just needs to be replaced, then yes. The same steps will apply. Good luck!
What type of tool is that you used, are they needle nose plyers or some type of wire cutters? TIA for any replies. 🙂
Can someone tell me what kind of pliers are those that he uses in the video?
Saving this cause I need to fix the zipper on my favorite boots
my problem is that my slider has completely fallen off. how do I repair it? would I treat my boot as you did in this video?
If the slider is completely off, then I'd follow the video to get the slider back on. If you need more help, feel free to reach out.
you made that look easy lol x going to try it on my broken boot as worth a go before i chuck them x ty

How many times do we have to tell u old man!!
I cannot get my boot zipper to snap back together x-x i read comments and tried their tips but its just not working
But what if I have a plastic zipper?
I think I can do this. It's so funny: the boots I need to fix look almost identical to these!
Thank you for this!! I got boots i need to perform in and they're always breaking.
totally worked!! Thank you so much!!
What if I’m missing a tooth somewhere in the middle of the chain and that’s why the zipper isn’t working? 🤔

When it went quiet while you were "buttoning up". I suspect if that has been me, I'd have muted the sound to blot out the swearing!
Thanks. I'm going to try it with a nylon zipper with metal stops.
Dang it I could do that rn. But miss Karen said no and she’s trashing them. Dang karen I just wanted my boots back :(
But question I have a random broken tooth around the mid area (they are thin) and it’s comming undone from the boot any suggestions on how to fix that?
Thank you so much. I just fixed my daughter's Ugg boots!!

Thanks its more broken now. Cant get the zips back together but you dont care to help the commenters.

I've made it!! Wow. Thanks!
what pliers are the best can i buy them ata hardware store
+Valerie Martinez we just use the wire cutter type. It's a pretty basic plier and yes you can buy them at a hardware store.
This was so helpful! Thank you for posting this video!

i cant hook my zipper back together myself :(
What about plastic zippers
Got it! Thank you so much!!
