      Try my method and remove a couple of the bottom teeth on the side needing to add the slider. Then just make a tiny cut into the thick edge of the cord about 1/16" and then the slider should slid right onto the tape. Then with a needle and thread sew back and forth to hold the two sides together. Make sure you really sew it back and forth about 6-7 times to build up a thread hump so the slider can not come off and to close any open area under the slider that is open. You can do the same thing if a tooth would be missing higher up to get the slider on but you need to form a thread stop and then stitch the rest of the zipper closed from the missing tooth to the bottom of the zipper so it is not leaving a portion of the zipper unzipped. You will find my method a lot easier than trying to walk the zipper teeth to the top. I do this often and have tried many different ideas and this seems to work best for me and takes only a few minutes and less time than his video is showing. You do not even need only a pair of plyers and a needle and thread and scissors to accomplish my suggestion. I use the pliers just to yank off about 3 teeth. Snip through the raised cord and then slip the slider onto the tape and stitch closed with needle/thread.

    Thank you for the tutorial! It actually worked out well. "Zipping/closing" the zipper by hand was the most frustrating part, because I lost one tooth at the top in the process, and in a reflex to catch it, I ripped the whole thing open when I was done. Then a second time, I was forcing one tooth, my hand slipped and ripped the thing open again. Replaced both of the top stoppers, because they actually shattered when I tried to get them off. I'm glad I managed to do it in the end, you just made it look so easy. Thanks again!

  • @lindaschenk1184

    I find it much easier as an alteration specialist to clip a few threads at the waistband where it is holding down the tape ends inside the waistband. This frees up the ends of the zipper tape.Then I remove the top stops and slide off the slider. I can easily put the slider back on and with the teeth buttoned together. it slides right on. I put the top stops back on and put the tape ends back between the waistband and stitch up the top stitching on the waistband. Of course I have access to heavy duty jean thread and a sewing machine to do the job. If someone doesn't have a sewing machine or they do not want to disturb the stitching on the waistband then it is good to do it your way. Most people are not that picky if the jean topstitching has been resewn as no one looks at the stitching that closely. I also think my way is much quicker. If a tooth is missing near the top then one can make the zipper also work without replacing the teeth or the zipper by making the space where the tooth is missing the new top. All one has to do is add the stop in the gap. I then would remove the tooth on the opposite side. I usually remove any teeth above the stops, but it is not necessary. This works if the tooth missing is about 1 inch from the top because even though the zipper will not go up to the waistband it will still be zipped and the fly will conceal the gap.

    Couldn't you essentially put a reverse pair of pliers (the kind where the nose opens when you squeeze down) in the side of the slider that came off the track to widen it, then slide it on the track and clamp it shut?
    Edit: Nope. Tried to be smart and do it. The zipper on my suit pants was such thin metal that it broke right off when I bent it back.

  • @AlexM-eh7gr

    Shortcut: Use your pliers to open up the side of the slider that has come off the zipper. Align the zipper teeth and place the open slider back on the track. Use your pliers to close the slider back to normal. Pull up the slider - this ensures teeth begin matching up once inside the slider. Pull down (use ALOT of force) and the zipper will align all the teeth for you! Pull up and your zipper is back to normal. Voila. (took me 2 minutes)

    • @glenmazza7250
      @glenmazza7250 Год назад

      I would not recommend this shortcut for those like me who have never done this before or are not particularly skilled with pliers, I just tried and ended wrecking the slider (I found it difficult to open up and close in a manner that it can be reused again, and my general impatience didn't help matters). Unless you really know what you're doing, I'd recommend spending the extra time (on a day you have the extra time), follow the video as given and keep the slider in pristine shape.

    Wow, well HOLY SMOKES, it did work on a pair of my son's jeans. It take over 20 mins (top stops and upper teeth were already removed).
    So... minus taking off top stops, I literally could not tell it was even working for the first 10 mins. on and off, but low and behold it really worked, with A LOT A LOT of patience to put those zipper teeth together, one by one, just as the video instructs.
    I still need put top stops on, not sure where they were.

    Okay, look. This video does show you how to fix a zipper. BUT, the flaw is that you have to remove some zipper teeth, then re-attach them. Everyone knows that once you alter something to this extent, it's hard to put it back the way it was. In my humble opinion, simply snipping between two of the bottom teeth, making a gap, then fitting the zipper in that way, is much better. Why? Because it accomplishes the same thing, in like 10 seconds!!!

    Thanks! Was able to repair the zipper on a relatively new pair of jeans. The problem in my case was that the slider had come off on one side. That happened not because the slider was worn, but that the top stop on the side that the slider had come off was missing. I used the method from another of your videos to open up the slider and get it back on the chain. Once back on, sloped the slider to the bottom, made sure both sides of the chain were lined up with no slack, re-crimped the slider on both sides, and finally worked/pulled the slider with a pair of pliers until it started moving up the chains pulling the two sides together as normal. This way I did not have to manually press all the teeth together. Saved me about $80!

    I cannot press my metal jeans teeth back together to save my life! I tried doing exactly what you said, but they won't hook. It's a pair of ladies Lee Jeans (new) and at the bottom where you start to press the teeth together, the fabric is so thick and tight over the zipper, I cannot even start! Help!

      Glad I’m not the only one. I’m here trying to fix 2 year old jeans that I refused to throw away. 1. Because I had only worn them twice and 2. It’s sooo hard to find good black jeans.

    Worked really well! Thanks so much. I did find it easier, however, to get the zipper head from the bottom rather than the top, because the top of the head has a wider opening. It meant I had to remove some zipper teeth from the bottom instead and seal it with glue afterwards (or as well in my case haha), but it worked!

    Ok I've done all that multiple tunes but everything I unzip my jeans and goto recipes them the teeth won't catch. Why? What am I doing wrong.

    I'm not sure what kind of zipper he's doing this on, but its not as easy as it looks!! The first step was hard enough- then getting the slidder back on both sides was super tricky, couldn't do it. Not worth the headache!

    Pliers are used for grabbing or holding. Nippers/cutters/wirecutters/wire strippers are used to cut/remove material. On some pliers, there are cutters built in. The names aren't interchangeable.

    i did that with scissors and a kitchen knife
    i tightened the top stop with a selfmade metal press (or squeezer idk how to call it) i made in engineering class (that's probably the best way to call it. I'm german, i dont fucking know how to call shit properly) a few years ago
    it was a less pain in the ass than i thought it would be

    한국어를 원하시는 분을 위해.
    위에서 보다는 밑에서 하는 것이 훨씬 쉬움.
    밑의. Zipper 머리가 빠진쪽 의 teeth 2개를 빼내고 그냥 zipper 머리 를 밀어 넣은 다음, new stopper를 teeth 뺀곳에 끼우던지, 더 단단하게 하고 싶어면 zipper 를 올린후 다른 쪽 teeth를 같이 빼고 양쪽용 stoper로 고정하면 됨. 제일 밑이기 때문에 잘 보이지 않음.
    위에서 하는 방법은 손으로 teeth를 서로 끼워 마추는 것은 시간이 전체시간보다 훨씬 많이 걸리고 어려워 손가락끝이 아픔.

    I had to pry the mouth open more to fully accept the teeth. Once each side was fit inside the mouth, I used a plier to pinch the mouth closed enough so the teeth would engage. Saved me a pair of jeans Mucho thanks

    In this video the repair involved the top stop and removing a few pieces of the chain on each side. ON another video you opened the "closer" and reinserted the chain, then tightened the "closer." Why the different techniques? Is the brass closer harder to open and close?

  • @yunihorn1854
    @yunihorn1854 3 года назад

    Sorry but this is lame. Just open the zipper box a bit, put the zip back in the box and squeeze the box a bit again. Voila.
    Specially it is easy if the box is metal.

    If the teeth has broken in the middle then it's best to replace the zipper. If it's at the bottom then a zipper stop is a good choice.

  • @youngson1254

    The way is to do from a bottom.
    As Same way like a top, remove a couple teeth of only one side bottom and put a slide back. You don't have to take off a slide. And put new stoppers on bottom. It's hard to see a bottom. A lots easy.
