Try my method and remove a couple of the bottom teeth on the side needing to add the slider. Then just make a tiny cut into the thick edge of the cord about 1/16" and then the slider should slid right onto the tape. Then with a needle and thread sew back and forth to hold the two sides together. Make sure you really sew it back and forth about 6-7 times to build up a thread hump so the slider can not come off and to close any open area under the slider that is open. You can do the same thing if a tooth would be missing higher up to get the slider on but you need to form a thread stop and then stitch the rest of the zipper closed from the missing tooth to the bottom of the zipper so it is not leaving a portion of the zipper unzipped. You will find my method a lot easier than trying to walk the zipper teeth to the top. I do this often and have tried many different ideas and this seems to work best for me and takes only a few minutes and less time than his video is showing. You do not even need only a pair of plyers and a needle and thread and scissors to accomplish my suggestion. I use the pliers just to yank off about 3 teeth. Snip through the raised cord and then slip the slider onto the tape and stitch closed with needle/thread.
I had my sewing machine out and everything about to permanently sew the fly closed on a $30 pair of jeans i got for $9 because of a broken zipper. looked up the tutorial and after some struggle got it to work!! you saved me having to shimmy into my discounted jeans. thank you!!!
Thank you for providing this moment of sanity in a world of disposable everything. I fixed my zipper and now I know how to so so next time it happens. Many thanks for making and sharing this video.
Dude, thank you very much. I watched the whole video once so as to know which tools to use. I got the tools and resumed watching the video. I was ready to begin the experiment when I hear you say "...one quick remedy is to take pliers and make sure this is engaging with the teeth." I did that and voila the zipper was fixed. Thanks again, man! You saved me 35.00 bucks!
clicked through lots of videos but then landed on this video, it took a lot of finesse but i finally fixed my zipper!! your video was most helpful, thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial! It actually worked out well. "Zipping/closing" the zipper by hand was the most frustrating part, because I lost one tooth at the top in the process, and in a reflex to catch it, I ripped the whole thing open when I was done. Then a second time, I was forcing one tooth, my hand slipped and ripped the thing open again. Replaced both of the top stoppers, because they actually shattered when I tried to get them off. I'm glad I managed to do it in the end, you just made it look so easy. Thanks again!
Thank you so much. For two years my favorite coat I have ever owned has been collecting dust and I thought it wouldn't ever be able to be worn again. Now after carefully watching you tutorial my beautiful all time favorite coat is back and ready to rock . Especially since here in Seattle it has been an insane snowstorm worse than it's been in years. Once again really appreciate you and the video you did.
Excellent tutorials, helped a lot to repair my baby girl's favorite jeans. I watched almost all of your videos and found 2 that got the job done. Thanks, 🙏🏽
Thank you so very much for this video, I thought I was gonna have to throw my jeans away until I watched your video and learned how to fix them myself now I can wear them without having to worry about a messed up zipper
Thank you good Sir! This helps with all my racing suits that have fallen short of their lifespan cuz of Zipper malfunction. Being that a suit is around $2000-$4500, A HUGE THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!
Complete life saver. My favorite denim is now wearable again. Took me forever but only because it was the first zipper repair I've done, not due to any issue with the video. Thanks!
I COULD NOT find the patience to take line the teeth up and “button” them and all that so I found a much easier way! Take the two bottom teeth off of the side that the zipper came off & slide the zipper back onto the track! Boom, done
Thank you!! I saved money learning how to fix my zipper! I bought a pair of jean shorts without knowing the zipper was broken and the store is an hour away so it wasn’t worth returning especially with gas prices these days. I had gone to a sewing place to get the zipper replaced and it was going to cost $25!! Worth more than the shorts lol. That’s when I decided to see if I could do it myself and came across your tutorial. Thank you so much!! Finally I can happily wear my now favorite shorts. 😊
The zipper head on a vintage skirt I was trying to repair is metal, so I applied heat with a hairdryer while prying it with 2 pairs of needlenose pliers. It took some effort but the heat helped. Made a mistake of not straightening before clamping back down so it was wonky. But I just did it again and it worked! Your video saved me $30. Appreciate it.
Thanks! Was able to repair the zipper on a relatively new pair of jeans. The problem in my case was that the slider had come off on one side. That happened not because the slider was worn, but that the top stop on the side that the slider had come off was missing. I used the method from another of your videos to open up the slider and get it back on the chain. Once back on, sloped the slider to the bottom, made sure both sides of the chain were lined up with no slack, re-crimped the slider on both sides, and finally worked/pulled the slider with a pair of pliers until it started moving up the chains pulling the two sides together as normal. This way I did not have to manually press all the teeth together. Saved me about $80!
Thank you so much for this instructional! I feel so proud of myself right now. Just saved myself a few dollars and a trip to the clothes repairs. And learned something new. Love it
Thank you so much, you just saved me $50 on new school pants. The zipper was a zipper down the side bottom of my sons winter school pants. Complete life saver.
It is frustrating- i finally ripped something off the top so i moved along to the engage the teeth step- it's not happening- the teeth will not come together and they're really small. It's a long silly story as to why but i need that zipper to work by Thursday!
Andrew Heiser: THAT'S THE TICKET! The steps shown in this video = Ain't nobody got time for that! One thing that was missing from the video you linked is the part where you take needle and thread and stitch the point of the zipper you do not want to go beyond and you are good as gold!
Thanks for the video man, much appreciated! Got my pants all fixed up. I was so proud of myself, I went to show off to the wife (who said it's unfix-able), she realized she was wrong...so then proceeded to call me a good little Suzy Home Maker...lol
I love RUclips! I can't seem to get the teeth buttoned up! Does it make a difference which side you put on top of the other. 🤦 I know I've did it before just goofing around. Fml
A day ago i found a hugo boss jean at a local thrift store for 5 bucks. It was in a great condition but when i took it home i noticed that the zipper needed fixing. Due to your very instructional video my new jean is wearable now !!!! Thanks
Thanks for this, super helpful. Just fixed a pair of my favorite jeans!! I did struggle at first to get the slider on after interlocking all the teeth until I cut into the fabric on both sides at the top. That really made it easy to get slider back on. Thanks again!!
I like this idea better than most videos I’ve seen because he’s not cutting into the teeth also preserving pieces but I can’t get my one stop off ugh. Also I already have so space at the top so I predict this will be an easy fix...thanks!
Thank you so much. I left 2 jackets of my husbands at his cousin's house in Ireland for someone to fit the 2 different zippers. I will be practicing at home so when I go back I'll know how to repair any more zippers. Thank so much for your instructions.
Wow, well HOLY SMOKES, it did work on a pair of my son's jeans. It take over 20 mins (top stops and upper teeth were already removed). So... minus taking off top stops, I literally could not tell it was even working for the first 10 mins. on and off, but low and behold it really worked, with A LOT A LOT of patience to put those zipper teeth together, one by one, just as the video instructs. I still need put top stops on, not sure where they were. Thank you for a REAL LIFE helpful video. I RARELY give a thumbs up on videos, I am SO IMPRESSED WITH your video. Would you like to go on a date? Lol.
This worked brilliantly! As one of the comments suggested, I had a tooth missing at the bottom of the zip but replaced it with one of those from the top. I got disheartened when I followed all the steps but the zip came undone as the zip went back up again - but your last recommendation of closing down the sides of the slider worked perfectly - thank goodness! Thanks for this video
Thank You Sir for your study class given to us and to the world. I have two good expensive winter coats zippers damaged while washing in washer and dryer. Now I know how I can either put back or to take out a damages zipper pulling knob. Once again thanking you Sir.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. My zipper broke and it’s a new pair of jeans. Gonna try to repair it with this tutorial of yours when I’m back home tonight
I LITERALLY JUST FIXED MY SKIRT THAT I HAVEMN'T WORN SINCE I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE THE ZIPPER WAS BROKEN. I was just going to sew on a new zippier but then I saw this and tried it and it worked! It took some time and I had to get new stoppers but it works! Thank you!
This really worked! My husband kept saying that I couldn't fix it, I was wasting my time. But I got it and he still wouldn't look at it so I did all that time consuming for no thanks But it worked just don't bend the stopping top
Hi...Thanks for this the tutorial 😁😂👍 To bad that I don't have all the tools . But when I was in the California my landlord have all that tools to fix everything in the house...🤔n Thanks...GBU🙏
I am honestly about to throw my shorts away because I’ve been trying to get the thing on the zipper for about a year now. I come back to it ever so often and waste so much time
Thanks. I was able to repair the zipper on my daypack. I just needed to squeeze the slider mouth closed. I've done this before on a different zipper, but the slider was weak and broke easily, so I had been reluctant to try this fix. Thanks again. As a replacement pack, I bought one that I HATED. I'm back in the game now. ;-)
In this video the repair involved the top stop and removing a few pieces of the chain on each side. ON another video you opened the "closer" and reinserted the chain, then tightened the "closer." Why the different techniques? Is the brass closer harder to open and close?
love your various videos but I can't find a video for my problem. It looks like someone started off with putting one of the long metal pieces at the bottom not far enough into the slider, yet the track has meshed fine......but now the slider will not come off either side so the slider is stuck at the bottom and you can't open the coat. Any help would be appreciated!!
I find it much easier as an alteration specialist to clip a few threads at the waistband where it is holding down the tape ends inside the waistband. This frees up the ends of the zipper tape. Then I remove the top stops and slide off the slider. I can easily put the slider back on and with the teeth buttoned together. it slides right on. I put the top stops back on and put the tape ends back between the waistband and stitch up the top stitching on the waistband. Of course I have access to heavy duty jean thread and a sewing machine to do the job. If someone doesn't have a sewing machine or they do not want to disturb the stitching on the waistband then it is good to do it your way. Most people are not that picky if the jean topstitching has been resewn as no one looks at the stitching that closely. I also think my way is much quicker. If a tooth is missing near the top then one can make the zipper also work without replacing the teeth or the zipper by making the space where the tooth is missing the new top. All one has to do is add the stop in the gap. I then would remove the tooth on the opposite side. I usually remove any teeth above the stops, but it is not necessary. This works if the tooth missing is about 1 inch from the top because even though the zipper will not go up to the waistband it will still be zipped and the fly will conceal the gap.
Woohoo !! I fixed my jeans with this method! Thanks so much! It was tricky getting the teeth aligned again and had to stop out of frustration but got to it again and ended up fixing it! So proud 😁😁😁 easy method and very good!
Thank you. Putting the zipper back on was the hardest part but I did it! My tweezers and nail pliers helped put the top stoppers back on. Happy Thanksgiving: buckle buckle!
Omg thank you so so much ❤️❤️ you're literally a life saver 👌🏻🦄 I've had a broken zipper on my favourite shorts for about 2 years but wouldn't throw them out as I new one day is fix them 😂😂 As soon as you said if there's a missing tooth then make that the new bottom it just hit me how to fix my shorts !!! Thank you so so much my zipper is now fully functional again x
Glad I’m not the only one. I’m here trying to fix 2 year old jeans that I refused to throw away. 1. Because I had only worn them twice and 2. It’s sooo hard to find good black jeans.
I took both top stops off and got the zipper back on track. But the 2 sides were misaligned by several teeth. So all I did was put a top stop back on the 'lower' side. The other side didn't make it all the way to the top so it never got off track. Good enough fix for my purposes. Thanks!
WOW! Thanks so much, this was very helpful, I've had a favorite pair of shorts with the same problem and I was worried I wouldn't be able to fix, thanks!
This was my 2nd video that I watched from your channel and both were great, thank you. After watching 2 videos I've come to the conclusion that, like most things, preventative maintenance would be wise for items that you plan to keep for a long time and if you use a zipper several times a day, everyday that determining a reoccurring quick maintenance schedule may be easier than repairing. Thanks again and I'll be back because I may have some content ideas for you later, and if you haven't done any preventive maintenance videos then there's my first suggestion. I can't imagine trying to only do videos on zippers without running out of content ideas... But, I may have some for you, along the lines of creative projects.
Hi my name is Amie, and I watched your vedio, and I have a some jeans, I want to fix, but I have teeth missing on the bottom of the zipper. What should I do?
Thank you! Although I had a mishap at work so I had to fix it with the tools I had. Teeth, tweezer, and the will to fix my jeans to not look ridiculous at work. Back to work now thank you again!
I is like how this was a 10 minute video this took me an hour and a half with lots of tears

if you are missing a tooth, replace it with one of the top ones. (Make sure to take one off the other side).

I just took the guide right off, and hand sewed the zipper up to a point where I could still get the jeans on( 80-90% closed). problem solved.

thanks, I was able to fix my daughter's favorite jeans!
Great work! Happy to help.
Thank you so much for doing this video... You saved my jeans 👖😊
informative video, thanks. How do you replace the slider on a pair of pants with a plastic zipper? Thanks.
Just tried this and it worked! Took me 2 ½ hours though 😂

Thank so much for adding your insights from your experience. It's much appreciated!

Just fixed my zipper thanks so much for the tutorial! You are the man!
Thank you. Putting the zipper back on was the hardest part but I did it! My tweezers and nail pliers helped put the top stoppers back on. Happy Thanksgiving: buckle buckle!
Thank you very much. Happy New Year! Stay safe!
That's great! You're very welcome.
Glad I’m not the only one. I’m here trying to fix 2 year old jeans that I refused to throw away. 1. Because I had only worn them twice and 2. It’s sooo hard to find good black jeans.
Thanks!!! It worked like MAGIC!
That's a nice wash. What brand of jeans are they?
I took both top stops off and got the zipper back on track. But the 2 sides were misaligned by several teeth. So all I did was put a top stop back on the 'lower' side. The other side didn't make it all the way to the top so it never got off track. Good enough fix for my purposes. Thanks!
Thank you so freaking much I was just able to fix a pair of my favorite jeans!! You are a lifesaver/$$saver. Lol
WOW! Thanks so much, this was very helpful, I've had a favorite pair of shorts with the same problem and I was worried I wouldn't be able to fix, thanks!
Do you have a video showing how to get the bottom stop off?
Omg, thx so much, I had to go to a party in 10 minutes and my new Jean skirt zipper broke!!! U litterly sabes my life🤩 thx so much
Excellent video. Well done!
The man speaks truth! Everybody DOES love zippers. 😂😂
Thanks so much!!! I just saved two of my favorite pairs of jeans cheers bro!!
I was able to follow along with you and it worked like a pro 💯
you've saved my favorite jeans! thx so much, great video.
Would the same concept for fixing zippers in jeans work for fixing the t zipper????
My hands hurt after a lengthy struggle...but I did it! Thank you for this video.
