The ultimate low pass compilation, single double or tripple low pass with a glider; ash25 JS1 ASG29 nimbus 4 & 3 asw27 antares 20m...
...must see!
Enjoy and fly safe
100% pure awesome.
Once, when I was scoring the Hang Gliding champs in Omarama, New Zealand, the week after the world gliding champs, Terry Delore had stayed on, and one afternoon he buzzed the landing area, pulling a loop over our heads, before landing perfectly, and gliding it right into his parking spot off the runway. Incredible.
He gave us all a great lecture on Wave the next day.
This is stunning, I've watched it a few dozen times and the finest type of flying available to man.
These machines are just so ridiculously elegant! It's amazing how some things fit right into the phrase, 'If it looks right it it will fly right'. B¬)
That noise as it flies past is amazing!
Never thought these birds would look that fat in low-pass! despite being lightweight and slim. very enjoyable! Thank you
loving the monstrous towering cumulus in almost every shot
extremely impressive, i fly, i didnt know you could actually do that with gliders, way more interesting that low passes with jets, thanks!!!
@marintoss it's a Nimbus 3 single seater, the terrain is in South Africa at Tswalu which is a Private Game Reserve
No propeller! They build up speed by diving. And they get height by a plane towing them to start, or a winch. Then they use thermals and wind and stuff to stay up.
They have no engine :) But some pros can stay up all day, and cross the country without one :) They have a super efficient glide ratio with little drag. And they also have a fold away wheel to make it more aerodynamic. Only one wheel. After it slows down, the tiny skids at the wingtips also help!
What is all this about SPINS....?? All I saw was an endless series of low altitude passes. Nice glider though. I prefer a shorter wingspan glider such as a Grob 103 which can do aerobatics although those long slow high banked turns are awesome. . These high aspect ratio gliders just never seem to lose energy....fantastic performance. Thanks for posting
GAWD I luv this video!! I've come back here prolly a dozen times now just to watch it again & again, & just can't go on without saying something about it. I fly R/C Gliders (low intermediate level) and this is just an inspiration to go at it harder! From big wings trailing smoke, thru the big sweeping turns, the 'WOOSH' sounds, to the "Trespassers can be eaten" signage, what's not to like!?! And the music just adds to it.
Subscribed > Like'd > Fave'd > All 6'a my nipples are tinglin'!!
@Zlin0035 No engines, it's just the wind noise. And the trails you see behind some of them is ballast water. The water is used to make the plane heavier, to raise the speed where you get the best lift-to-drag ratio. It's dropped to make the plane lighter before landing.
@andy gilchrist these gliders have a single retractable wheel located under the fuselage and they are a glider so they dont have a motor or prop, they rely on winds, thermals/ lift and tow planes
+luv2jive as hotvair rises these plane are so light that the air actually pushes them up this is what makes them so flying far without any engines sometimes they can fly cross country on just one flight because of this hot rising air have you ever seen how eagles spin in the sky this is what they also do you sell flapping the wings
My new favorite airplanes.... its like your own personal ME262
Sounds like jets flying by!
Makes me want to get into gliding! Seriously, where do I start?
Great vid man!
Amazing! I like it! Who needs engines.....;)
Gliders often carry water in bags within the wings to give weight. The 'Smoke' trails you see is the water draining from the wings before they land.
@panther105 Thanks! I should say that aerobatic is also great, for the spins look at 5:20 ;)
@alexmccaw1 that glider is not a model, it's the JS1 (from south africa) doing some flying test, and there, the pilot (who like doing spins ^^) is doing a spin test, but he is high, he didn't hit the ground ;)
It's breathtaking!!!
Elegant...pure and simple!
If the crash dont kill ya, the lions will. What a great place to fly. I love it!
lol that sign about the lions would have had me shitting a brick. cool vid
Well, another way to look at it is that the "fuel" for gliders is the potential energy (altitude multiplied by mass). The heavier they are, the more energy they have at a given altitude. This extra energy may be used to fly faster. Of course with a heavy glider it takes more energy from a tow plane to climb to altitude. And later, heavy glider will extract more energy from a thermal (rising air) while gaining altitude circling in a column of the rising air. But this comes free from the Sun :-)
Twin Micro-Jets under the wings.. look at the smoke trails....
I have never flown a glider with water ballast.... the old Slingsby Dart 17 didn't have that facility! Hard to explain to non aviators that my longest flights have been without an engine... even harder to explain that a commercial airliner, engines at flight idle setting, glides better than a lot of purpose built wooden gliders! Just a bit faster though....
Good luck trying to explain total energy... next step, Bernoulli....
I'd like to see an update of this video in HD. A "low pass compilation V2" - love it
most gorgeous and noble machines made by man to DATE
It is not smoke. It is water ballast being jettisoned right before landing. They usually take a lot (hundreds of pounds) of ballast water. This allows for much faster flight.
Amazing how people look at something and are blind at the same time.
Cool vid' & music .... Thanks
thanks guys, the name of the intro song is "Fat boy slim; right here, right now" and the other are still from fat boy slim; "funk soul brother" and "praise you"
That's a glider in a spin - it'll be deliberate and recoverable, it's all good :D
Might go something like this I suspect ,"Safari Base , Lima Sierra is inbound on final glide approaching the field from the ranges west of the field, currently dumping ballast. Estimate the field in 1 minute and LOW"
Nice compilation. The music is a bit much though. Way too loud at the end.
And that trail you see is water. Gliders take off with water to weight it down. So when the plane tows them, they have more momentum. Think throwing rock vs a paper ball. Same thing! The glider goes faster, and when they need to gain altitude for either emergency, or need to simply do a pass and pull up, it makes it hard with that weight and no engine, so they dump some water and pull up! If they didn't have any at all, it would be hard to build momentum, and they would slow down like paper ball
... and i think the music is great, fits the video very well
Great video! Please edit with the stabilizing feature offer here on youtube.
Haven't you seen what I've written? At the beginning of the video, there is a link to the same video without the music... Be careful before criticizing
Not smoke, water carried in tanks in the wings, improves the into-wind performance. You can't land with the water in the tanks, so it's emptied out just before landing.
@bbestoloch He did those spins Voluntarily, Indeed the glider was in a special configuration, (I don't remember which one; if he had water ballast or not, or tail ballast or not... he did lot of spins during one month for the certification) but I was there filming his spins to analyse them on the ground, to solved it he probably put negative flaps, rudder opposite to the spin and stick forward, The pilot said that he didn't struggle to solved it
At 4:18 What glider is that ? Love the wingspan!!! Music is fantastic just like whole video! Great job guys! Doing this is my dream! :) I hope one day I'll fly with you. By the way where is this ? The terrain is awesome for flybys and low passes!
Coolest gliding vid I've ever seen
im starting my glider scholarship, do you think the instructor will let me do this? cus this is my idea of pure, heaven, u guys r awsome...
They are crazy! nice video, thanks!
amazing sounds !
This is water. For long cross country flights or for competitions they tank water ballast to fly faster, before landing they dump it.
Great video, but they came back too early, the soaring weather is still good, they should still be on course! Just kidding. Keep posting more like this.
is that at bloemfontein where the soaring safaris are
@lbchuma The hard thing is to arrive at the right spot with the right altitude and the right speed.
that not seems to be some ordinary tail spin.. more like a deep stall stuff
how he solved on it?
Hey, did you get your local grass cutting permit prior to those passes? Great stuff.
Funny - I liked the music and for the most part the sound of the sailplanes passing by was there also. I loved doing low passes in the full size when I was flying. :)
filmed at bitterwasser lodge, right?
@bbestoloch The pilot is fine, he did some spins test for the certification of the glider, the JS1; the best 18 meters ;)
How do these takeoff and land , I didn't see any wheels? Also is their a propeller at the back ? They go pretty fast
If you don't like the music, I did a footage without it: "glider low pass compilation, without music -CAF-" or check out my channel
What did the lion in the beginning have to do with this? Great soaring vid, nevertheless.
That's just awesome.
How do they do so many low passes...? Or was it edited? Duh! Either way really cool and I would love to get into gliding...
@floppycheese96 no it takes more skill than you'd think plus training gliders aren't the best performance wise so you'd have a very hard time. When you are more experienced and fly higher end gliders you'll be able to do this
The best gliding video! :)
Do you have little jet engines on the gliders to self launch/power?
Did I see a full-blown flat spin at 5:19 to 5:23? Did that pilot live to cheat death another day?
These kind of gliding videos are an absolute disgrace! We should all be enjoying this kind of flying!
Damn. The old chemtrail conspiracy.
@mikestratte have no ideia... but it locked like though.... if ya find an answer please share lol
Awesome low passes dudes!
I've got the same video "glider low pass compilation, without music -CAF-"
without the music, it's ashamed that everybody find the version with the music, and not the other one
@serger2010 Wrong... Go look at hundreds of other videos of sailplanes making fast low passes then you'll see.
i think a ultra modern R/C turbine the size of a shoebox would keep that thing in the air for a very long time. since running out of altitude is a drag.. id wanna stay in the air all day inna way kool plane like that
Awesome!
Sounds like they have Jet Engines???
whats the first song called get back to me asap please
hey, that sky is still full of Q, what's going on?
awesome movie! :D
hell, where does all that lift come from?! I struggle with an engine!
VERY GOOD
Brilliant flying! However for 'ground effect to work properly, they need to fly a bit lower! The UK is now 'Euro 'Nanny Stated. Whom makes the rules? The French, the Germans or the Brits, which prevent us having having fun? We have way far too many 'ground-based beaurecrats (whatever their nationality), determined to destroy our reason for living!
No I filmed that at Tswalu and Blomfontein, in South Africa ;)
@MrTumnus8896 it maybe looks like a model at 5:20, but honestly...it's not a model
Magnifique vidéo !

Nice ;) I would like to do this in Bavaria ;D
awesome stuff
what are the smoke trails?
No a brand new like gliders like those would cost somewhere around 100,000 and when you share it..... That's different it varya
5:08 Ummm, what was the deal there? Ran out of energy on final glide?
what the f***!! 5:20 that ghlider are going in deep stall... what happend to the pilot
What is the plane called and what's th wingspan
What was that at @5:20 ? Didn't look to good.
haha 2:40
"thats embarrassing"
You can cut grass with your wings.
@zzsnake It is more then beautiful :) Love it!
great stuff,,,
5:19 AHHHHH
How mani thet planer thet complitations?
They sound like theyve got jet turbines :)
What kind of gliders are these?
magic.
