  • @Danielcrspo

    Just from seeing this video again, you can tell how much more musical steve gadd is with his solos in this video, hes playing a lot less as opposed to his counter parts who are just playing 32nd notes the whole time, he creates fills and licks that actually suit the latin feel that he himself set up in the beginning, and he leaves space so the big bursts of notes sound quicker, we should all strive to play more like gadd, by listening and playing what complements the musical style that we play.

    • @mattseymour8637
      @mattseymour8637 3 года назад

      Well said I agree with that too that less is more and its good to let the music breathe and allow for space in the piece and play to what's needed not just play all fast stuff to show off or fill the bar

      ***** Absolutely I understand what your saying. This style of drumming is very advanced and would be far to technical for any rock, metal, reggae or even intermediate drummer to perform. Dave weckle, Buddy rich etc only some of the greatest drummers ever to live. People think just because someone can perform double bass really fast and drum really fast altogether makes them the best? when reality is there is no title you know. I mean if there was a title for the greatest drummer in the world? then 1) who decides who's the greatest? because every person will have their own opinion you know. 2) How would you decide who's the best? and 3) you would have to know and see every drummer in the world, which changes daily as there are new drummers entering the drumming world every day. I really do marvel at these legends and just hope that one day I can become as great as them :-) you should upload some drum solos? I would most enjoy seeing you play. Thanks for your comment!

    All unique- though think Colaiuta appears to have best “fast twitch” leg muscles with his bass drum pedaling. Sort of like how tennis players, sumo wrestlers, high jumpers can do sudden movements within a limited space. Weckl plays great textures on cymbals and has nice sticking patterns. Gadd uses rudiments, doesn’t depend on speed, has his groove sound.
    Anyone lucky enough to play with the B Rich Band has impossible shoes to fill. BR was a monster on the kit- of which we’ll likely never see again for a long time. Thanks for posting.

    This is kind of a funny story. I'm old and cranky, I admit it. I'm 65 and started music lessons at 7, so I guess been doing it about 55 plus years. We had a block party a cpl weeks ago and the neighbors wanted me to play some. I didn't want to screw with an amp and chord so I got this little Martin 0015. It's a smaller guitar but still full sized. I played a little bit and this neighbor about half my age had been running his mouth all night about musicians. He started saying who was the greatest guitar player and who was the best drummer like lots of people do He kept talking about certain musicians and who could do what and who had what pickups all kinds of crap. I was tuning by ear and thought I was flat on my E and it had carried on down. I handed him my guitar and asked him what he thought. He came back with, 'Oh, I don't play.". I kind of laughed a little and took the guitar back. Afterwards it really bothered me the way I kind of made him feel uncomfortable.I should have said something more like this. "What the fuck makes you think that you have the right to judge anybody on something you can't even begin to do yourself? You don't have the right to even have a fucking opinion." That is what I should have said.

    Wow, true master drummers. The mentors and inspiration for young drummers of the 80s, 90s and today. To put it in perspective, they've been playing gigs longer than someone like Joey Jordison has been alive lol.
    For those that don't appreciate this, you really need to spend a few years behind a kit to even begin to comprehend their abilities.

    I am impressed with the precise control they have. Now, imagine how much easier it would be for them, if they did not have to wear a tie and jacket! Awesome playing!!!!

    Imagine how proud Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa would be to see this performance. You can hear the two of them in these three amazing drummers.
