Didn't Patton slap a soldier who was fighting PTSD during the Italy campaign lol. Still, a true quote by an effective general, who made a few mistakes.
@ninerushclips3414 Yes he did do that! But General Patton was also a VISIONARY! He earned us about the threat of the Russian Government ! He was 100% correct about that! Baby Boomer here ! I clearly remember jumping under my school desk during the October 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis!
I have to disagree with you. Between the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, America accumulated more than 50,000 amputees and a suicide rate of 22 veterans a day. Get off of nostalgia and deal with reality. And what makes the World War II generation less worthy is that they fought segregated. That so-called greatest Generation treated German prisoners of War better than patriotic black American soldiers. Black veteran elders were treated worse in the American than by the Germans. America has no shame, but I will remind you.
@@navyflyer7465 I appreciate your reply, and I honestly don't disagree with anything you said in your comment. Only this, the nostalgia I feel is for my own father, who was there on that beach in Normandy on the day of this anniversary. So I guess it is him that I feel nostalgic for....he died when I was 15. I am now 71. He was a very quiet and kind person so it makes me ponder that behind that gentle man he was also very brave. And being only 15 I never got to say those words to him.
This greatest generation of men will never run out of respect from me. Real men of courage and still took the job even if most wished they didn't. Now it's different now. Much respect to this greatest generation.
This place is very emotional even when no celebrations take place. I had the chance to visit the D-Day beaches when I was young and I wanted to cry when I saw all the crosses. If you have the opportunity to go there with your kids, it’s worth a visit to make them understand what happened and why it shouldn’t never happen again. Those veterans were so brave 80 years ago and I’m also amazed they accepted to come back to make the world understand. They’re all nearly 100 or even more and they had to take the plane, wait for hours outside, answer to reporters. They put their mission before themselves. 🇫🇷🇺🇸 Thank you! Watch the celebration, it’s great, it’s history.
That Navy vet who never got to go back to omaha with his brother broke me and has me in tears as I type. God bless him , his brother. His 12 friends who died and all those who never r.t.u'd.
I can't. Thank you enough to the best generation, thank you for your sacrifice and selfless acts to allow us to be all that we can and always strive to be
God Bless all of our Veternans, Military Personnel and the Veterans who gave their life for their country. The Greatest Generation contributed so much to protect so many countries. They didn't care about people's religion, the color of one's skin, how much education a person had, how much a person made. We are coming to an end of a Great Generation and we need to rember them, what they did, and keep their history and legends. May we all thank our Military Personnel and veterans.....to those protesting, our Veterans gave you that right to protest your differences in the United States. May we all remember to take a moment to really look at our National Symbol, The United States Flag and reflect the true history of our nation and to remember the veterans who contributed more than most US Leaders to keep this Flag flying. God Bless America, Our Veterans, and Military personnel.
Bonjour. I live in the south of France. The reverence, gratitude, and respect shown to allied troops, particularly the US military, in French towns and villages is so moving. There are monuments to the US military, with the names of the soliders and fresh flowers in even the smallest towns. I hope that the family members know how much their soldiers are treasured here.
My First Boy Scout meeting at the Glendale, AZ American Legion, my grandfather, a PT Boat gunner in WWII walked me through the Bar to the latrine and introduced me to his friends. This is Joey, he was on the USS Missouri, this is Timmy, he landed at Tarawa, this is Johnny he landed at Normandy, and on.... Some were heavily scared, missing limbs, or eyes, but what struck me as a child was all the little boy names.....
Thank you seems wholly inadequate, sir, but THANK YOU so very, very much for your service and for coming all the way to Europe on this incredible occasion. Your dear brother is with you every step of the way, and so are we. God bless you.
Much respect and admiration to these veterans. I'd prefer to meet these D-Day veterans over celebrities any day because they served, fought and experienced things we never get to see or experience. I can only give a heartfelt salute and a thank you to these guys.
I feel the same. You should contact your local VA centre & ask them are rhere any WWII Veterans living in your local area. They might be able to hook you up. Just a thought.
What a incredible feeling it must be for these WW2 vets to be returning for the first time in 80yrs to a much quieter beach. There is a reason why they are referred to as the greatest generation of our time. The world would be a much different place if not for the sacrifice they all made. Many of which paid the ultimate sacrifice on that very beach 80 yrs ago. Whenever I see the actual film of them storming the beach, leaving the landing crafts and many only make it a few steps before their very lives are taken, I think about what a living nightmare it must have been. But yet many pushed forward fighting their way all the way up the beach. I remind myself of how young many of them were, 15,16,17 and 18 yrs old. Many lied about their ages at the recruitment offices right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. So some had revenge on their minds but they all had patriotism in their hearts. To be that young facing incredible odds and the horrors of war. I've been in the US military now for 17yrs serving in Special Operations and I've experienced combat and even faced what seemed to be incredible odds, but I wasn't as young as many of these brave men. God bless them all and God bless America.🇺🇲
I'm sitting here watching this and I cant stop weeping just cant stop, this Gentleman is incredible, but just think, on the day there were thousands of such men, if there is a God please bless them.
I have had the honor to speak to a fair amount of WWII vets over the years. These guys are as hard as steel and even more resilient. Thank God for men like them.
The next time you see an old man with a walker or in a wheelchair wearing a WW2 veterans' hat, remember what they did in their youth, and think would I be capable of doing what they did?
Yes! A few years back, I was entering a restaurant and saw an older gentleman in a wheelchair wearing a cap indicating he had fought in the Pacific in WWII. I asked him if he really did that and he confirmed it. I reached for his hand and said, “Thank you for saving the world.” True heroes.
