- World leaders and veterans gathered from across the globe for the 80th anniversary ceremony of the June 6 1944 #D-Day landings.
The event saw Joe Biden, the US president, wiping away tears as black-and-white footage from 1944 showing the dead and wounded was played to those in attendance.
Other significant figures present at the event included Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president, King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, Rishi Sunak and the leaders of several other nations.

Saddens me that every year there are less and veterans at the D-Day ceremonies. It's a great loss every time we lose one of these heroes.

Thought about my late mum and dad who both served in the RAF during WW2. Deepest respect for all who fought in that awful war,and all those who supported the war effort. I cried most of the day.

Where's Russian veterans and heroes?!
They weren't part of the invasion. They were all occupied in the east. And I'd hardly call them heroes since Russia helped to start the war in the first place.
Russian memory is very selective. To them the war started in 1941 with Operation Barbarossa. They try to eradicate from the world's memory the crimes and atrocities they committed in years preceding to Barbarossa - for example teaming up with Hitler in 1939 with a non-aggression pact to invade eastern Poland in 1939 and the massacre of Polish POWs and intelligentsia in Katyn and other places in 1940. Not to forget the thousands of civilians who were send to Siberia and the Gulag.

I have visited Normandy and what this great Generation did 80 years is heroic. I can't see any of our young generation do this today .

All of those soldiers are heroes, no matter whether they are Russian or American. We shouldn't disrespect the dead because of modern conflicts. May the million of fallen soviet soldiers rest in peace.
I'm pretty sure Russians weren't part of Normandy as they were occupied fighting in the east. Besides, Russians helped to start ww2 in the first place so they don't deserve to be recognized as heroes. More like dumba**es just cleaning up their mess.

The tributes to these heros gets me even more than the tributes to 9/11 for a couple reasons:
1 - the events of D-Day changed the world
2 - it makes me ashamed because we've let our legal system become the world's largest crime syndicate-and what these brave men did has been for naught here in Amerika.

While the soldiers were men, yes, women played an equally important role. they made the uniforms they wore, the guns they held, the gear they carried, the planes, tanks and ships they crewed. While all the men were at war, the women did literally everything else. I get the modern wokeness is a bit peeving but cmon the women of the world were quite literally keeping it alive.
