There is a reason why these men are called "The Greatest Generation ".They survived the Great Depression as children and then went on to World War 11.They came back with PTSD before PTSD was even diagnosed and somehow managed to lead normal lives and raise families. They suppressed the horrors of war for the sake of their children and grandchildren.I know this personally because I am the grandson of a D Day veteran. My grandfather never talked about the war until I decided to enlist into the Army back in 1986.He said he only did it because he wanted me to know the horrors of war before I made a final decision to enlist. The stories he told me are still entrenched in my mind till this day.I went ahead and enlisted as a tribute to him because I wanted to keep the tradition of military service in my family alive. My grandfather died in 2006 and I hope he's resting in peace up in heaven because he went through hell here on earth.

As a Czech guy, member of a nation that was to be wiped out from the surface of Earth, I am eternaly grateful to those who fought the beast and especially to those who gave their lives for freedom and lives of my grandparents, for without them my parents, myself, my brother and sister and her children would have never been born! Lest we forget!

I am an active duty U.S. Marine and have been serving for 12 years and counting. Nothing in my career could ever amount to the level of service the men AND woman of D-day gave on just that one day. I will never stop telling their stories and will never let their sacrifices be forgotten. Everyone in the world stands today upon the shoulders of the men and woman of 06 June, 1944. To ANY and ALL WWII veterans who may see this.... THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE OF YOU AND WILL NEVER BE AS GOOD A PLACE WHEN YOU ARE GONE.

I was crying the whole time… what a truly incredible place. That whole area is a must see for everyone, especially Americans, to truly remember our history and the importance of freedom, and those who defended it. Being a mother of two little kids, these monuments and stories hit differently. Thank you for sharing-and thank you for all you did for freedom, democracy and humanity. You all possessed this intense unwavering courage and valor as you knew it would be impossible to not lose friends and comrades while storming the beaches. These stories, all of your stories, the witness testimonies of what happened on the beaches of Normandy-what you all went through, fought for, and died for during WWII is so important to remember, to talk about, and to tell our children about.
You will not be forgotten, your sacrifices will not be forgotten; your lives, your memories, your seemingly unbreakable strength and spirits will forever echo throughout time; reminding us all of how fragile and precious life and freedom can be, and to be thankful for every moment we have on this earth. 🫡❤️🪶

May we never forget all these brave men who faced unbelievable odds and horrors in which their eyes had never gazed upon. Many had never even experienced seeing death before that day. Some were as young as 16, 17, and 18yrs old due to lieing to the recruiter at the time of enlistment. A lot of them packed recruiting offices right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After that for the next few years during WW2 you didn't want to be the only boy walking the streets in your hometown. It wasn't just a trend it was called patriotism. Unfortunately today its something this country lacks a lot of. No, today we're to busy fighting each other because of our political differences. God help us if we have to face a conflict like WW2! And trust me when I tell you our enemies of today who mean to do us harm are watching it all. And their not only enjoying it they're just waiting for the right moment to make their move. This is something I know a little about serving in the US military now for 17yrs, most of it in Special Operations. But there's a reason they're referred to as the greatest generation of our time. Because they had vengeance on their minds after the attack on Pearl and patriotism in their hearts because they truly loved their country. And I truly don't believe we'll see another generation like them for a while. So thank the one's who are still here and praise the ones who are no longer with us. Because without them and the sacrifices they made the world would be a much different place. God bless them all and God bless America.🇺🇲

My dad’s father in law on June 5th 1944 he flew in a formation of b-24E Liberators. He bombed the coast line that the invasion would commence the next morning. Midnight came, while bombing som AA guns lit up the sky and blew up his tail section. Unconscious he didn’t realize until he woke that his tail gun was gone, just the night sky and planes all around him. He suffered shrapnel wounds which would embed into him forever. He never mentioned the allied invasion but he told my dad the did try to help but it just wasn’t good enough. The bunkers still held and many men lost their lives.
