    We need more of these thanks. Appreciate how you talked through your mix decisions too and had the eq info written on the screen. I've been mixing more and more in the mpc for simplicity purposes, it's helping me finish way more music.

    So the chain was 1 compression 2 transient 3 eq correct ?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  Год назад +1

      Hey dude, well there are no rules really, but yes in this case, compression to tighten up adn even out the snare, transient to bring back some of the attack and then EQ to taste. But this will not work on every snare drum, so maybe experiment a bit. You can try the transient designer at the end after the compression and EQ, or you can EQ into the compressor. No rules. Thanks for watching.

      I am far from a mixing engineer so I like to K.I.S.S.
      most of my music revolves around clever sampling & innovative drum sequencing & recording.
      Until recently, all my beats went to an old fostex mr8. That fostex taught me how me how to do more with less. Now that I have the power of modern MPC, I want to keep that spirit in my music. Thank you for this recent strings of vids, it really showed me how to get things done with just my MPC. I am abandoning my ableton rig & am committing to the MPC. You have shown how to get a quality sound with this akai engine.
      Thx a mil

      I am building a new MPC template where the default FX stack per pad is
      1] comp1 or mother ducker insert
      2] comp2 or FX 1
      3] FX2 or EQ
      4] EQ or mother ducker

      @@lbrown7164 It’s a good ethos to keeping it simple. I love the KISS approach myself. With the modern machines, it’s definitely possible to get a pretty much finished result. Maybe don’t abandon Ableton completely. Keep it in the background in case you need it. For instance, when it comes to warping samples, Ableton is one of the best IMO. But yeh, getting it mostly done in the MPC is a somewhat liberating approach.

    What microphone setup do you use to record your videos?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  Год назад

      I use a Sennheiser MKE600 for shotgun or an Earthworks Icon Pro for close up work. This runs into an Audient EVO16 and my FX chain is generally UAD Avalon VT737, into Waves Clarity VX Pro, into Waves Rvox into UAD C-Vox with Fabfilter Pro Q3 on EQ surgical EQ duties sometimes. All very subtle changes. My rom is quite reverby so a lot of it is cleaning up reverb.
