      @Robert Smith; ‘not quite right here’ more like patently wrong 😉 As you said, they’re known to be proper rapid. Not driven one but have the F80 M3 and if that is anything to go by then the F10 must be a rocket ship (regardless of it weighing circa 1900kg.) I personally would be weary of releasing a video with these findings that go against what everyone else says about this car.

    Just got rid of mine.. on a dry warm day these are absolute missiles! Did 2000 miles over a week in the very north Scottish highlands and it was fantastic, hides its weight remarkably well and the brakes are good. They all make nearer to 600hp than the quoted 560hp. But again these cars don’t feel that fast on anything but dry warm days with good tyres, in the UK where it is often damp and cold you find yourself having to really feather the throttle. Put your foot down at 50mph + though and the car takes off. I miss mine but not as much as I miss my e92 M3.

My conclusion was a seriously fast car with little occasion likely to cause the loss of license or life if one is not wary. 70mph is done with no fuss. Getting back in my e34 m5 made me realise I would never go for the f10. A decision I stand with 17years going with my beast.

Bit of turbo lag, TC and a very insulated car meant the acceleration never felt particularly dramatic. My impression of that car was exactly what James said in this video. Not a bad car, but considering a significant number of people seem to love them I found it very underwhelming. Numbers are good, it's just not particularly fun. The interior is also meh and the ergonomics are surprisingly poor, but that's just BMW in the 2010s.

    I own a 2015 LCI M5 (F10) and I don't quite understand the comments about performance - this thing is an absolute rocketship and will easily keep pace with far more exotic machinery on UK roads. It isn't a scalpel, it is a 5 series after all but it is precise enough and more than enough car to be genuinely exciting.
    For points of reference, I have owned an E92 M3 Competition and an LCI M2 in the recent past. The F10 M5 would leave both for dead in basically any situation on the roads other than something immensely tight and twisty (single track switchbacks maybe) - or if it was raining really hard.

      Be interesting to see if the one in the vid really is broken. I drove an F13 M6 which definitely wasn't broken (tested from a dealer) and had the same view as James in the video. The speedo goes round just fine, but it doesn't feel fast- exactly like my old GS450h. That car was a touch quicker than my 981CS down a slip road but without actually racing/timing them you'd assume the porker is twice as fast. Sounds like a similar feeling I got from my 2016 M135i, sold it after three years on Sunday and not missed it one iota. Was looking at M4's, considered these and may do in the future but the current solution is a 2015 Fiesta ST that is getting a load of modifications, but even as standard it is so much more fun than the BMW's. There is fast, which these undoubtedly are, and there is feeling fast which the Fiesta seems to carry off much better than the M135i, a lot of it is auto boxes, they have their place but I just miss a manual, combine it with rubbish suspension and lifeless steering you end up with a comfy thing that does acceleration quite well and is practical. If the answer is "Remap it" on a 560 BHP car, probably asking the wrong question of the wrong car. Sometimes stuff works on paper but is boring, then something just grabs you that you didnt expect to.

      I bought my M135i more or less sight unseen. Had a few of the first gen 1 series before, and really liked them.

      Active suspension worked well enough, and the engine wss quite strong. I planned to bring it up to about 600hp, which seems to be where the n55 tops out.
      BUT... nothing could have prepared me for the steering. Unacceptable. I have driven playstation games with more feel. After just 4 weeks, I had decided it had got to go. I got one of the last old gen 335s that rolled off the assembly line instead, the last BMW made with hydraulic steering as far as I know. Couldnt be happier, I will never sell it.

    when i saw the first edit of this video i was surprised at how jayemm decided to describe the car. i instantly knew there would be lots of responces saying its broken or hes wrong etc.
    however in his defence he had probably 20-25 mins in the car on a cold wet day.
    also in Jay's defence i agree with much of what he said. its not a very engaging drive. the car is so well insulated and cossiting that you really dont get the sense of speed even when your going very very fast.
    it dosnt have the same sparkle and finish to the experience that the old V10 cars gave but it would most certainly walk all over one in a drag race.

      Dont see how cold or wet conditions would make you think the car is slow, since he confirmed there were no traction issues. I asssume he knows how to push a pedal correctly. Nah, something is afoot here.
      Mount a first class hotel suite inside a launching moon rocket, and one should still be able to make a reasonable guess about the acceleration, no matter how comfortable one sits.
      Sorry to say it, but either it doesnt run right, or Mr jay lacks the ability assess car performance reasonably objectively.

    I was pretty meh about them when they were released, but as the prices dived they look a lot more appealing! Trouble is as your alluded to in the video that they do seem to end up in the wrong hands; there was an owner near our old house who fell into that category.
    Don’t agree that you can ignore the 1M; they’re amazing little things. A ‘proper’ M engine counts for little these days; the S55 in the M2 Comp for example sounds nowhere as good as the N55 in the OG M2.

    All other concerns aside, are we sure it is healthy and gives full power, if it feels surprisingly slow?
    It could easily be missing quite a lot of power through different factors. One of my cars is missing about 100-120 horsepower, yet, since it doesnt throw a code, there is nothing wrong with it, according to an authorised dealer.
    Something to keep in mind when reviewing used cars. A simple 100-200kph or 60-130mph timed test will easily show if all power is availible, though I understand there could be some difficulties doing said tests on British roads.

    • @Sum_Ting_Wong
      @Sum_Ting_Wong 3 года назад +2

      That's because you have to to wring the neck of the E60 M5 V10 to make any decent progress. Below 3500rpm they are very flat. I used to have the M6 V10 and around town at pedestrian speeds it was pretty lame and jerky.

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 3 года назад +2

      @@Sum_Ting_Wong The jerkiness is bad but wringing it out is part of the fun of an NA engine. Not that I dislike torque, my issue with engines like the S63 in the F10/F13 is that it isn't exciting at the top end either.
      One big factor in buying my 981CS was that there's a lovely gargle as soon as you're past 2000 RPM and then it howls all the way to 7800 RPM. Plenty of torque since it's light too. Rare to get a nice NA engine with that sort of character in a big saloon sadly, I can't think of a recent example that isn't a Lexus V8.
      Edit: Also have to mention, nice name ☺

    • @arcadeuk
      @arcadeuk 2 года назад

      I can never understand people saying the E60 was more exciting. Sure there is no doubt that the V10 sounds better, but the F10 pulls far far harder, than the E60, to the point that the E60 feel incredibly slow after you test drive an F10

    • @ApothecaryTerry
      @ApothecaryTerry 2 года назад

      @@arcadeuk Speed does not equal excitement. I test drove an F13 M6 last year and ended up buying a 981 Cayman S instead. While the 981 is quicker round a track, in a straight line the BMW smashes it. In terms of excitement though, I can't describe just how utterly the 981 destroys the F10 gen M cars. Sounds far better, gets loads of positive attention, cornering is like comparing an F1 car to a bus, etc. The F10 is fast but it is not fun. That's not a criticism, it's what it's designed for- it's a fast saloon, not a sports car. The E60 was much more dramatic with the sound, the jerky gearbox and slightly less subtle looks. Also the breakdowns...the F10 isn't exactly reliable but the E60 is hilarious ☺
