What I remember about sitting, in the line up, of The Wedge, was a toilet bowl effect. Whirlpools would start up and nobody had a chance to help you. That's why I liked the next break. We called it Gravells. Now, they call it Cylinders. Still the same. Still, a good spot.

Was body surfing the Wedge mid sixties, still the same wedge with about a million more people, sheesh. Lot of great memories from that place.

I've been out in bigger at the Wedge.
Hurricane swells... They get shadowed by the Jetty... Newport point was a bit bigger. The thing about Hurricanes, is that they tend to be a bit more shapely, and a little less powerful, because of the shorter intervals... In the case of Wedge, that's a good thing. Super strong S. Hemis can be a bit too much energy for smoothness and rideability.
The wedge is absolutely a weird ass strip! Was there on 4th of July 78 it was horrific. Scary! Never ever went in. I’m an pro body surfer. No way.

haha.. good question! That big set wave went empty. There was know one outside to catch it. The clip should have been left out of the video all together. Kinda anticlimactic I guess looking back at it now..... lol..
