We lost Roger way too long ago. I lost my wife Sept 2 2023 and watching this makes me appreciate each and every day more! Willie just passed 90 so we have no idea how long we have. Peace and love to all reading this as losing my wife Icie is unbearable!
Roger was a good friend when I met him in Vegas. Roger always played at the Sahara Hotel. Too bad his museum closed in Erick, Ok. One of the greatest songwriters of all time, Roger was a funny man. Even though he died in 1992, I still miss him. Our fun times in Vegas, Nashville and any time he came through or near Oklahoma, we got together.
Feel good music. I’m down with the omicron first time I’ve tested positive after working in health care since the onset of Covid 19. Having given and taken many tests. Feeling stiff and sore. Day 3. I’m feeling better listening to this 1983 concert
From Kenya and never heard of Roger Miller till I got to accidentally hear Dang me and am absolutely in love. Thanks for the upload... Hii ndio rumba ya walami...
Thats awesome… i discovered roger in my sophmore year of high school… circa 1999… have been hooled ever since… he speaks truth and humor like a kindred spirit… his voice and wit are incomparable
Lived in Victorville, Ca in the early 1990s. The town hosted a bluegrass festival annually. In 1992 I think the headliners was to be Michael Martin Murphy who canceled at the last minute. The festival organizer announced he had a friend in Nashville who flew out Sat night to be fill in. That friend turned out to be Roger Miller. One of my favorite concerts I've ever been to. Did every one of his songs and some of others., Played for about 3 hours on a hot Sunday afternoon.
First time I heard Roger Miller I was a little boy watching Robin Hood. The older I get the more I appreciate his music. It was a real treat to watch him play along with Willie.
Same bud. Was an adult until I realized I grew up with his music through that movie ( my fav Disney film). Only difference is I know his whole catalogue now.
Dude feels. But I didn't even know it was him back then. my dad introduced me to his music and I loved it. But I've always been in love with folk, wether Celtic and Nordic folk, or american folk and bluegrass. Roger Miller though is unmatched. Bob Dylan can suck it.
My generations ignorance of this mans pure unbridled talent is utterly unamerican and existentially disappointing. Absolutely undoubtedly one of the best songwriters and comedians that ever lived. Never fails to bring a smile to my face.
God I loved Roger Miller , ever since I was a kid & watching the Disney Robin Hood but I’m sitting here watching this & being a musician I’m usually watching the players just out of habit & I’ll be damn if Roger didn’t have one of the best guitar players around in his band !! Danny Gatton !!! Just a monster of a player who showed a kid named Joe Bonnamosso a lot of the licks he plays today . I’m only one sing into this video so I’m not sure how much actual playing Danny shows on here but if anyone is reading this & doesn’t know who Danny Gatton is & your a Guitar nerd like myself then look him up !! It will be worth your time for sure!
I love Electric Willie! Yes, I know that means something different in the UK. He doesn't play electric often but I consider it treasure any time I find a clip of it. An old album Live at the Panther Hall Ballroom is on RUclips now. This was recorded before he had found Trigger. I don't know what electric guitar he plays but he plays it very well. That album is a fascinating snap shot of pre fame, pre trigger Willie.
I ordered a tee shirt from his website over 20 years ago… mary sent me a handwritten message thanking me. So… thats the caliber of people we are watching
My sister and I made up our own little dances to one of his albums as kids in the mid to late 90s haha. It was always a fun hell of a laughing good time of music. I love Roger Miller still one of my favorites!
This is an awesome episode... I noticed about 20 minutes in that the late, GREAT Danny Gatton is playing guitar! Me and Bobby McGee - 1:00 Dang Me - 4:45 You Can't Roller Skate in a Buffalo Herd - 8:03 Chug-a-Lug, Chug-a-Lug - 8:43 England Swings - 9:45 Husbands and Wives (with wife Mary Miller) - 12:02 King of the Road - 14:35 I Can't Go On this Way - 16:50 Invitation to the Blues - 19:12 Old Friends (with Willie Nelson) - 21:50 Milk Cow Blues (with Willie) - 25:34 (Danny Gets a couple quick solos around 20:29, and 27:40... Willie looks on admiringly on the second one...)
@@pianopappy Thanks for posting this! Austin City Limits should have ALL of their episodes archived. (Not so much the "new" stuff... but these classics for sure!)
I really love Roger Miller, but found this because Danny Gatton is on it and I can only find clips of the program when otherwise searching for Roger Miller and Danny Gatton.
Well, "Dang Me", Elroy, if this old Georgian wouldn't really appreciate your comment. It's the kind of comment that has made it worthwhile to have protected my old VHS tapes, beginning in 1980, in three different houses and in two different states. I've got a lot more in my attic that are on my bucket list to digitize and share--if I don't kick the bucket first. Glad you enjoyed seeing and hearing Roger again, who we all lost way too soon.
Listening to this song today, Sept 29, 2024 & news announced that Kris Kristofferson passed away today, age 88. He wrote some really great songs, like this one.
well, I guess we got 40 minute concerts to look forward to in our future again. If tiktok defines the length of viral songs, you can do a set in under an hour >
It’s a little odd seeing Nelson playing anything but his beloved Trigger but he’s quit adept on the Stratocaster despite it not being something he normally plays, at least in public.
Shame they didnt let that guitar player with the telecaster behind him actually let loose he’s one of the best guitarists ever in country music danny gatton. It’s weird seeing singers try and play lead guitar when the lead guitarist is in the back barely playing

Not enough Roger fans out there. He was pretty integral to my childhood. Thank whatever gods exist for his exquisite music taste.
AMEN!
Roger Miller was one of the greatest songwriters of the 20th Century. He was good right up until the end.
Roger is unforgotten
Absolutely BRILLIANT... xx

*More plain proof Roger Miller was a badass genius writer and performer*.👍👍👍🎯
From Kenya and never heard of Roger Miller till I got to accidentally hear Dang me and am absolutely in love. Thanks for the upload... Hii ndio rumba ya walami...
Check out some of his older stuff-Sorry Willy, When Two Worlds Collide, Lock, Stock and Teardrops. World class.
Hell yeah man! Good music scattered across the word and time.

@@adrock1011 exactamente!
I guess my biggest regret in life is not seeing him when he did a show at a Chevy Dealership in Clearwater, Florida back in '88.
A musical genius gone too soon. RIP Roger.😢❤.

Thanks, donald, for sharing that memorable experience.
Fast fact: Miller was the first artist to release "Me and Bobby McGee."
First time I heard Roger Miller I was a little boy watching Robin Hood. The older I get the more I appreciate his music. It was a real treat to watch him play along with Willie.
Same Here! THEN...my daughter fell in Love with Robin Hood!

Roger was an unbelievable talent.
This is what a genius looks like. No one compares today.
AMEN!
Wow both of them. Made my day!
Amen.
Remember his songs as a young kid, what a talented man.

First time for me seeing Willie play electric.

Really enjoyed this, thanks for posting :)
Music video where the performers are the main attraction. Roger was such a talent. Relax, settle back, enjoy!
What a great set, and what an extraordinary talent.
Such an underrated artist, a classic.
This is amazing. Now there is a new Christmas Tradition of watching this pure wholesome playful performance.
He was an awesome talent and one of the reasons we live, to experience each other’s goodness ! Thank you Roger, the Great One….
My sister and I made up our own little dances to one of his albums as kids in the mid to late 90s haha. It was always a fun hell of a laughing good time of music. I love Roger Miller still one of my favorites!
In case you don't know I love Roger Miller
This turned my day around!!
Thanks 👊
Glad I could help. We all need something to turn our days around these days. Thanks for your comment!
What a diamond of a Man. Fantastic to find this performance. Love the Fiddle.
My favorite rendition ❤️🎸 ❤️Roger rocking that telecaster
If Mr. Rogers was an unbelievably great singer.
Roger Miller was a genius. We still have Willie because of his penchant for weed. Roger Miller never liked cocaine, he just loved the way it smelled.
These days have never been equaled. Never will be.
AMEN!

14:24 🎶🎶"King of the Road"🎶🎶
Let’s not forget Danny Galton on lead guitar, another classic
well, I guess we got 40 minute concerts to look forward to in our future again. If tiktok defines the length of viral songs, you can do a set in under an hour >
Nice tele, unfortunately had to sell my 68.
And he fiddles!💕
Rodger would say Yee haw boys let’s have a time tonight .
Yo, I never knew he was a fiddle player too.
It’s a little odd seeing Nelson playing anything but his beloved Trigger but he’s quit adept on the Stratocaster despite it not being something he normally plays, at least in public.
Yes indeed, the feds / IRS seized Trigger, perhaps it was during this period?
it's a Telecaster
14 dollars would buy 2 beers now
I can't go on this way is a Bob Wills song I believe
jeez is that danny gatton?
He's listed in the credits at 28:47.
14:40 --- "King of thr Road"
Danny Gatton!
Shame they didnt let that guitar player with the telecaster behind him actually let loose he’s one of the best guitarists ever in country music danny gatton. It’s weird seeing singers try and play lead guitar when the lead guitarist is in the back barely playing
Weird to see Willie playing a guitar other than Trigger.
Old Roger he got an out of tune fiddle.
Until you can play as good, I'd hardly mention it!
Didn't sound bad to me.
Check out Roger Miller & Doug Kershaw
