I'm afraid it's a "bygone" era. This BS they are mechanically cranking out in Trashville now can't stand the light of day beside the old ( best ) stuff that Tom T. and others wrote.
I met Tom T back in 1990 in Wheeling. Before the show a friend of mine and I were having dinner at a little diner across from the music hall, when to our surprise a gentleman sat down at the counter next to us and it was the very man we had concert tickets for! Tom T and his wife Dixie came in and ordered a cup of coffee! Being star struck I didn't say anything at first, but I finally asked him where he gets the inspiration for his songs... he was such a humble guy, he said I really am not that good of a writer, I just take things from life. All of my songs are just every day observations. We sat and talked about the weather, and allergies from the springtime pollen in West Virginia and just chatted like he was an old friend. When my friend Frank and I stood to leave, I insisted on paying for Mr Hall and Miss Dixies coffee, he said "oh no, you don't have to do that" and I said "Your music has brought me a lot of enjoyment over the years, the least I can do is buy you a cup of coffee"! He thanked me and we were on our way. Anyway, we saw the show, and as we were leaving Miss Dixie came out from behind the concessions stand and said my name... she said "I was hoping I would catch y'all, Tom wanted you to have this"... she handed me a signed 8x10 photo that said "TO JOHN: THANKS FOR THE COFFEE! YOUR FRIEND, TOM T." What a great guy! It made me feel good that paying a dollar and 50 cents for 2 cups of coffee was turned into such a big gesture. I couldn't imagine stars of today being like that, can you picture Kane Brown casually sitting down for a cup of coffee with you? Anyway, it broke my heart to learn that Tom T committed suicide last year. He was such a kind man, I imagine that his love for his wife Miss Dixie was just so strong that he couldn't stand being without her anymore. So terribly sad. The picture he signed for me is still hanging on the wall, I am looking at it right now! We miss you Tom T!
I don't know but I am guessing he killed himself due to poor health. He was 85 and his health was failing. I don't fault him at all if my observation about it is correct.
RIP Tom T Hall, I was lucky enough to see him and Jeannie C Reilly here in Pennsylvania back in the late 80s at Longwood Gardens with my parents and Grandfather
I grew up on Tom's music and as I come to the end of my journey I thank the fates for allowing me the thrill of having his music in my life. He was a inspiration for me In good times and bad. God bless him and Miss Dixie. They are now at peace.
I grew up in the 60's & 70's listening to Tom T. Hall, and only now at 57 years old do I find out he played the banjo. =/ A great man and a great singer-songwriter. He will be missed.
R.I.P. Tom T Hall One of our all Time great Country Western Song singer and songwriter and Storytellers one of our all-time greats God Bless Tom T Halland Gis Family In Jesus Name Amen USA
Another giant has joined hillbilly heaven ! What a storyteller he was ! I'll miss him sorely . May he rest in peace, he will never be forgotten, by me anyway and I'm not alone, I know !!!
Tom T. Hall was one of my favorite singers. Loved all the songs he wrote. There will ever be another one like him, an original. I will miss him. Condolences to his family. 💔🙏
What a loss, one thing about he could make you laugh and cry with his storytelling. I've got several lp albums and one that has all kinds of silly songs. Tom T Hall will be missed.
I was lucky enough to have attended one of toms shows in Branson Missouri in the late eighties and was so privileged to have met the great story teller , not only a great singer but a very humble man who seemed out of his comfort zone when compared to the greats, but he need not have felt out of place because that's where he belongs, amongst the best ,R I P
The year was 1979 and my dad gave me a cassette tape of tom t i was only 14 and he said listen to this , Well it was the first time i heard of Tom T Hall and being a big Charlie pride fan he knew i would like it but it was also his favorite singer ,He told a story through song now who could top that RIP , Tom t Hall
oops , Im finding Tom T Hall for the first time . Back in the 1960's and 70's I was into Rock music Thanks to the internet Im now finding Country music and singers like Tom T
I loved to hear Tom T Hall sing. He was a story teller for sure. He discovered my other favorite singer Johnny Rodriguez. This is the first time I got to listen to them sing together ❤️ love them both and could listen to Tom T Hall and Johnny Rodriquez all day long!!❤
I had the pleasure of meeting the Great Tom T. in "Bad Bobs" on his first Irish visit, and bought him a Jameson at "The Beaten Path" in Castlebar. A great night followed in Breaffy with the Storytellers after Tom hit the hay. MEMORABLE
I wasn't a great fan of Tom, but that's because I wasn't listening to country music during his time. My fan hood seems yet to be discovered as I listen to more of his songs. God bless him, and may he rest in peace.
Great loss for Country music and those of us who enjoyed Tom T Hall's simple, comfort songs of life and living. My Dad is up there smiling while listening to "I Love Little Baby Ducks" and "Old Dogs, Children & Watermelon Wine". Condolences to Tom's family and loved ones. His laid back style will be missed. 🎶❤️
My oldest daughter, now 51. reminded me that when she was 5 or 6 I often listened Tom singing Sneaky Snake and I Love. He gave the world a lot of enjoyment through his music. We will miss him😥
Two great singers from way back in the way back , when music was music. Tom T Hall and George Jones . My grandma loved Sneaky Snake and would sing it to us grandchildren all the time .
I had a old CD of old country hits (13-15 yrs ago?) on that CD was "A Week In The Country Jail" . Ive always thought of myself as a REAL COUNTRY music fan (pre 1993ish) but I was so embarrassed when I realized that I didnt know who the hell this great singer was. I litterally got on RUclips and binge watched every video of his songs I could find. Now when it comes to country singers i like the greats like Jones,Jennings,Tweety, Pride, both Hank Sr.& Jr.,Don Williams you get the picture. I truly believe Tom T.Hall was one of the best singers that not many people have heard of & i just don't understand why? R.I.P Mr. Hall tell Clayton Delaney hello
Subbed because I somehow saw this. Tom T Hall is among my absolute earliest musical memories. Of the few bright spots of my childhood were his songs. His passing hit me like when Elvis passed. Seeing him was a goal I was never able to realize, sadly. I hope he's able to know how much his music meant to many folks. RIP
When I kick off I have 3 songs I wont played at my celebration of an idiots life, Double Trouble, I Hope it Rains at My Funeral & George Jones Choices..... Its a selection that changes over the yrs but A Tom T.Hall song will be in the final cut.
Tom wrote so many wonderful songs, I’m surprised to hear Paradise here which was written and recorded by John Prine. I wonder if any more on this list were written by other artists? I’ll have to exercise my curiosity and look them up.
Can anyone imagine another Tom T. coming along? Neither can I. Tom T. was one of the greats.
I'm afraid it's a "bygone" era. This BS they are mechanically cranking out in Trashville now can't stand the light of day beside the old ( best ) stuff that Tom T. and others wrote.
Kenny Chesney maybe but not on Tom T's level
Ain't gonna happen 😮
