I just arrived back from the scene of Grenfell Tower, working in the local church to help with food, bedding etc. What I found amazing was the spirit of the people. There were kids from that tower who went to school in Pyjamas this morning to complete their GCSEs. Many of the people were up and around, helping, still abiding by their fasts. There were children playing in the Church and people from all backgrounds conversing, helping and laughing. Many Conservative MP's (who were also landlords themselves) voted against a law that would mean landlords would have to make their residence "fit for habitation" which would have made the landlord liable for the deaths. The law didn't pass so right now who the blame would fall on from a legal standpoint is unclear. It is likely the blame will fall on the construction crews and contractors who installed the fittings and not the landlord and housing group responsible for the building at this point. Though it is still early days.
These Firefighters are heroes, too bad they couldn't save them all. The good thing is that other buildings will get their fire safety installations upgraded now and this will be more unlikely to happen again.

My kids are still pretty young so there is no RUclips or any accounts for them yet, and no personal devices, but I would do the exact same as you and even homework assignments that are done on the computer, are in a main room for all to see as they pass by, with mutual respect to be courteous and quiet though. I also think part of it is also watching the idolizations so our kids don't put them on an infallible level and begin obsessing with infatuation. When you hear people say 'I'd do anything to meet him!'. That's when reality has to hit them hard that their 'idols' are just human, and just because they may have a great talent or make great vids, doesn't mean they aren't capable of being absolute scum.

I've seen a lot of comments of people saying that Jones should get a lighter sentence because the girls had a choice whether or not to send those videos. While true that these girls did have a choice, Jones is 23, these girls are 14/15. Jones is almost a decade older than them and he is the adult here. To put this age difference into perspective, the girls would most likely be in grade 9/10 and at Jones' age, he could have a degree from a four-year college. He is the one responsible, he asked them to send videos. He used manipulation to get sexually explicit content from minors and no matter how much people try to spin it the other way this whole situation is creepy and wrong and he deserves to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

It's not okay at all. It is absolutely morally reprehensible. 14 is nowhere near close to an adult in terms of maturity.

As a teenager now who can look back on her childhood I am disgusted by Austin Jones. When I left the home where I was being beaten and emotionally manipulated I found myself living with my mother and her boyfriend. The first night that he ever touched me I was 11. He was a fifty two year old man who stood six feet and three inches tall and I was a child trying to learn how to trust again. If it isn't obvious from my story already I cannot stand pedophiles, I lived under the same roof as one for 2 years. I stayed because he has a grandson who I did not want him to harm, but when I turned thirteen I fled back into the home of my original abusers. Years after I left I still will receive cards from my rapist, I do not know how he has found my address and there is only ever two things inside his letters; a sum of money ranging from 20 to 100 dollars, and a "Thank you for the good times" message. I believe all pedophiles who act on their impulses should rot, and that those who do not should seek serious help before they do anything drastic. But in the case of Austin Jones I am absolutely repulsed as my one escape from the man in the room next to me was RUclips. I can remember clearly when he would leave my room and lock the door behind him, I still remember the rapid dash I would make to my Mother's laptop. RUclipsrs were my inspiration, my comfort, and my hope. This platform let me escape and be a child again. What makes me sick is that I know that I would have done anything to make my favorite creators notice me at the time. I'm sure that if one of them had approached me the same way Jones approached those girls I would have complied hoping to impress anyone I admired. I just arrived back from the scene of Grenfell Tower, working in the local church to help with food, bedding etc.
What I found amazing was the spirit of the people. There were kids from that tower who went to school in Pyjamas this morning to complete their GCSEs. Many of the people were up and around, helping, still abiding by their fasts. There were children playing in the Church and people from all backgrounds conversing, helping and laughing. There were hundreds of people lining up to give food, bedding, shelters etc... it was a really amazing sight.

As a firefighter and an EMT, this brought me to tears. Hearing the bad news (that we needed to hear about, than you Phil & team) about the multiple stores today, but especially the fire.
My family and I spend our lives trying to prevent and mitigate tragedies like that. I'm deeply saddened... those deaths were preventable by the buildings owners and they should be held legally accountable for it.

Another woman was leaving with her six children down the stair case. at one point she turned around and only saw four. These are some of the horrific stories from the tower and the goverment havent sent any aid or offered to put these people in hotels or temp accommodation. Churches Mosques and local charities are freeing up space and taking donations from a very helpful and thoughtful public.

Yet this punk ass actually did something intentionally and gets house arrest, seriously wtf.

Many Conservative MP's (who were also landlords themselves) voted against a law that would mean landlords would have to make their residence "fit for habitation" which would have made the landlord liable for the deaths. The law didn't pass so right now who the blame would fall on from a legal standpoint is unclear. It is likely the blame will fall on the construction crews and contractors who installed the fittings and not the landlord and housing group responsible for the building at this point. Though it is still early days.

They are allowed to watch RUclips on our living room TV and access to social media is extremely limited elsewhere. I watch most of it with them so I know what and who they are watching. Thanks for reporting, Phil. This world is a scary place, especially when raising young people, and having your rational reporting is appreciated.

My kids are still pretty young so there is no RUclips or any accounts for them yet, and no personal devices, but I would do the exact same as you and even homework assignments that are done on the computer, are in a main room for all to see as they pass by, with mutual respect to be courteous and quiet though. I also think part of it is also watching the idolizations so our kids don't put them on an infallible level and begin obsessing with infatuation. When you hear people say 'I'd do anything to meet him!'. That's when reality has to hit them hard that their 'idols' are just human, and just because they may have a great talent or make great vids, doesn't mean they aren't capable of being absolute scum.

I had privacy as a child on the internet. But i was able to separate reality from tv and movie personalities. Kids these days think that because you can send a dm straight to your fave celeb means your friends automatically and can trust them. People need to teach their kids that these are still strangers whether or not you watch them 24/7 on tv or online.

I've seen a lot of comments of people saying that Jones should get a lighter sentence because the girls had a choice whether or not to send those videos. While true that these girls did have a choice, Jones is 23, these girls are 14/15. Jones is almost a decade older than them and he is the adult here. To put this age difference into perspective, the girls would most likely be in grade 9/10 and at Jones' age, he could have a degree from a four-year college. He is the one responsible, he asked them to send videos. He used manipulation to get sexually explicit content from minors and no matter how much people try to spin it the other way this whole situation is creepy and wrong and he deserves to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Uuuuh.... what? There's no legal distinction. A person is a child until they reach legal age - so you can be a child in terms of drinking but not sexual consent. Regardless, biologically, you are a child until you hit puberty then you're an adolescent, then an adult. I would argue very strongly that even if you count teenagers as morally different from children, it's still not okay for an adult to have sexual contact or communication with a non-adult. It's not okay at all. It is absolutely morally reprehensible. 14 is nowhere near close to an adult in terms of maturity.

As a teenager now who can look back on her childhood I am disgusted by Austin Jones. When I left the home where I was being beaten and emotionally manipulated I found myself living with my mother and her boyfriend. The first night that he ever touched me I was 11. He was a fifty two year old man who stood six feet and three inches tall and I was a child trying to learn how to trust again. If it isn't obvious from my story already I cannot stand pedophiles, I lived under the same roof as one for 2 years. I stayed because he has a grandson who I did not want him to harm, but when I turned thirteen I fled back into the home of my original abusers. Years after I left I still will receive cards from my rapist, I do not know how he has found my address and there is only ever two things inside his letters; a sum of money ranging from 20 to 100 dollars, and a "Thank you for the good times" message. I believe all pedophiles who act on their impulses should rot, and that those who do not should seek serious help before they do anything drastic. But in the case of Austin Jones I am absolutely repulsed as my one escape from the man in the room next to me was RUclips. I can remember clearly when he would leave my room and lock the door behind him, I still remember the rapid dash I would make to my Mother's laptop. RUclipsrs were my inspiration, my comfort, and my hope. This platform let me escape and be a child again. What makes me sick is that I know that I would have done anything to make my favorite creators notice me at the time. I'm sure that if one of them had approached me the same way Jones approached those girls I would have complied hoping to impress anyone I admired. It is incredibly disheartening to know that what I used as a tool to heal and console has been used in the same way that calls forth a need to heal and console. I hope that absolute peanut of a man gets what he deserves, and I hope his victims know that they mean the world to me, and that things will get better
