    The railings and posts look wonderful. A huge improvement over the metal things.

    This gives myself and the mrs so so much inspiration, we bought a house 3 months ago and unfortunately we have not moved in yet as some extensive work required and lack of £££ to do it for a variety of reasons, most unseen issues and as you know things can lead in to other things and so forth.
    I’m an electrician to trade but changed career so a bit rusty to say the least, I’ve now completed and re-plumbed my whole heating and hot and cold water system and also rewired the house, joinery really is my weak point so love chilling out watching these videos.
    Fantastic drive. 👏🏻

    Another stunning result. I really like the contrast between the mahogany rails and uprights and the white/off-white spindles. Looks so elegant.

    One technique for fixing a horizontal handrail to a newel is to house it. Offer a scrap of handrail stock to the desired location on the newel and mark around it. Take out the waste with a small router working carefully up to the line. A 1/4" housing is about right. Get yourself a Kreg master system, great for stairs and lots of other projects, 👍🔨🇮🇪

    I am about to undertake this project myself, one question, what does the trim for the bottom newel post look like? I remember you used a half lap to joint to the old base, just wondered what your solution was.
    Thanks again.

    • @TheRestorationCouple

      They were from Ireland I believe, George Quinn Stair Parts. I di look around but these were the best fit for what I wanted and also came sized nicely with the bases.

    What fixing did you use to do the hidden join on the handrail I am considering pocket screwing mine. Do you think that is feasible. I have purchased the bolt fixing method but would prefer not to show the patch up.

    • @richarddunn504
      @richarddunn504 3 года назад

      Hi, did you pocket hole the handrail? Considering the same with 2 64mm Krueger screws. Thanks 👍

    • @didee3900
      @didee3900 3 года назад +1

      @@richarddunn504 I used the bolt fixing to the Newell in the end as felt it would be more durable in case of pole dancers 😂. I pocket holed any joins i had to do on the hand rail.

      @@didee3900 thanks 👍 today I rescued the handrails with all tenons intact, so will try to re-use, although the pesky builders in stead of using dowel to draw tenon in mortise, chucked a few random screws, some therefore have more holes than is preferred....they were so close to doing a decent job..😂🙄

    Hi Tim, what did you do about plugging or hiding the screws at the bottom base of the newel posts before staining?

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  5 лет назад

      I made a trim from matching wood that trimmed around the bottom.

    Hi, loving yours videos my friend, I wish I had your skills. I noticed you wearing an elipse dust mask, I’m just starting out in wood turning and was wondering what you thought of it? There are plenty reviews but im never too sure if it’s a freebie review or not. Your thoughts on it would be much appreciated. Love the ending with the girls.. 😂😂😂 kids🙄😂. Many thanks. Raymond

      Works well for me and fairly low profile so shouldnt get in the way of a visor if wearing one for turning. Simple enough to change filters too. I am sure there are better out there for more specialist work but for woodworking/diy it is great.
