Great video here, i have picked up alot from this video, i found this job exciting to do when i was completing my city and guilds carpentry, your videos packs a great punch of in depth knowlege of skilled carpenter, thank you please continue to upload more 🙂
Hi Razal 🖐 Its great that you find this kind of job interesting as it makes it much more enjoyable to do🤩 I appreciate you watching and your great comment😎Cheers Del
Great series Del thank you. Found myself almost breaking into a sweat, I have an irrational fear of drilling into chipboard floors ever since I was asked to screw down a squeaky (and poorly fitted) upstairs floor. Just finishing off doing the whole upstairs 10 screws to go when I went through the underfloor heating pipe an hour before the carpet fitter arrived! Even had the original underfloor piping layout plans but whoever fitted that decided to notch through a joist and go under a stud wall rather than head along to the door and back just to save a metre or so of pipe!
Hi Iain🖐That's sounds like an absolute nightmare😖I just simply will NOT put screws in a squeaky floor for that exact reason😬Once bitten twice shy as they say👍Thanks for your great comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
great job. would love to see more stair work. nothing wrong with laying out spindles the old way. its not that much slower and its bang on right first time. 👍
Hi Marc🖐I've only been building bungalows for the last few years, but I am just about to start a big family home, so Ill be doing some videos on stair fitting then👊Thanks for watching
Bless you mate, you do make me laugh with the old dinosaur 🦕 reference, I work with my son who is always telling me there is an app for that and that Google is my friend 😕 but sometimes it's just good to do things the old way.
Thanks Del I just love how lovely it has turned out mate Thanks for that I’ve learnt a lot love the masking tape bit I won’t be using my pin gun anymore lol 👍👍👍👍
I prefer to open up the sub floor for my landing newels if it's possible. I run the newel down close to the bottom of the joist and box around it with structural blocks with timberloc or Kreg H.D screws. I like to house my landing railings into my newels by 6mm or so. I establish my railing position on the posts and mark around a scrap of railing stock. Then mortice out the majority of the waste free hand with a Bosch 12V router. Final fit and finish is done with a chisel and sanding block. I find if I Arris the end of the railing it allows it to slide nicely into the mortice. I'm going to make up a jig for that task some Day, 👍😁🔨🇮🇪
Hi TN🖐Sounds like a belt and braces approach bud, and the newels should normally be halved over the joists, but, in this instance, the customer wanted keeping as simple to do as possible👊Great comment as always bud, and thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi Greg🖐I appreciate you watching and I get most of my timber from a local timber merchants who have a massive stock and all their materials are significantly superior to that of any builders merchants. They are part of the Hevey group from Northamptonshire👍Cheers Del
Nothing wrong with old school. Us old Dinosaurs have to stick together. At least we can work it out without the app. A lot wouldn't be able to. Also being a Pome from Kent I learnt and practised all forms of Carpentry. Moved to Oz and Qld had I think it was 16 classes of Carpentry. It is very normal here to specialise. Cabinet makers only make and install cabinets unsurprisingly. Stair makers, no prizes for guessing that one. And the list goes on. They asked what I wanted to do and I said all genres so I had to pass all the skill tests as part of RPL Recognised Prior Learning to get an open Carpentry Joinery Licence. Customers say to me all the time like who do you get to do the fit out because I'm framing. Or who is putting the stairs in. The answer is normally me. You get a few funny looks. I just tell them it is a Pome thing.
Hi Dave🖐Great comment, and very similar to what I found working in the States many years ago🤔 As you have found in Aus, many guys I worked with in the US thought it was nuts that I did all aspects of the trade, and not just specialise in one area👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
I don't know about that Del Boy🤔Firstly, apparently I'm quite demanding to work with, and secondly, every time someone wants and calls out 'Del Boy', we'll both say, 'yes'😆
Hi FB🖐The full newel skew screwed into the floor through a counter bore on one side and behind the spindle base rail on the other💪(I also put a bit of PU glue under there for good measure😉) Thanks for watching
