  • Super fast Bullet Train (known as The Shinkansen/新幹線) speeding through Koriyama station, Fukushima prefecture.
    This video shows two Shinkasen coupled together. The green train at the front is an E5 series Hayabusa/Hayate which is joined to a red Komachi E6 series train.
    This train was heading south towards Tokyo, probably originating in Akita. We estimated its speed to be around 160km/100mph as it passed through the station. How fast do you think it was going?

    For safety reasons Shinkansen trains drive "slower" when passing stations. So do not expect full speed through a station.

    • @jeffroutledge9153
      @jeffroutledge9153 2 года назад +32

      Not sure how slowing down to 100 mph is much safer going through a station. If someone gets hit at 100 mph (or 200 mph), they'll be just as dead.

    it's hard to capture how powerful it is on the video. I was having lunch at the station and the whole building shook. I looked at the staff and they weren't surprised at all and went about their business. It wasn't until 2 days later when I was leaving Koriyama did I see it in action on the platform. It just ripped through the station. On the same trip I also went to the Misawa Aviation museum where they have the US / JP airbase right next to it. Fighter jets take off every 5 - 10 minutes for an hour session at a time. I'd say the Shinkansen at Koriyama is about as loud/powerful as the fighter jet to a subjective observer on the ground.

A nurse I know had patient come in one side of his face perfect the other caved in. He was just at a tube station and just lended out to look down the track. Track lines were close to platform, train came by that second and that was him done.

    Most likely slows down going through a station -- for safety. I can all but guarantee you that wasn't its top speed.

      @@sfmike711 Many years ago I went from Washington DC to NYC by train. It was VERY slow, partly because they had to stop several times to remove objects left on the tracks (including a washing machine). Who DOES that?

    • @sfmike711
      @sfmike711 3 года назад

      @@joesix-pack4022 : I was a train operator for almost 11 years with BART (SF Bay Area Rapid Transit). The area just south of the Hayward Station was a dumping ground. At night (my hours), because of the limited visibility, trains were automatically slowed down when approaching or leaving that section of trackway to give more time to react to hazardous objects. Baby strollers, logs, chairs, small furniture, etc. would be heaved over a fence. Never heard of a washing machine on our tracks. as for "who does that?" ... idiots. Pure and simple, idiots.

    • @joesix-pack4022
      @joesix-pack4022 3 года назад

      @@sfmike711 Plenty of idiots here too but they don't dump stuff on the tracks. But lots of idiots in cars try to beat the trains at crossings, and we get cattle and sometimes kangaroos and emus on the tracks.

    • @sfmike711
      @sfmike711 3 года назад +1

      @@joesix-pack4022 : Luckily, BART has dedicated trackway - tunnels, elevated sections, and fenced-off at-grade sections. This precludes vehicular traffic and at-grade crossings thus eliminating those types of collisions. Running past the Concord Yard I have scattered turkeys wandering along the tracks. Late one night my train took out a deer. I was leaving Walnut Creek Station, heading south to the City, and rolling at 65 mph ( a bit more than 100 kph) when this brown blur passed in front of my cab window. There was a horrible thud and I hit the stop button. It was a mess - on my lead car, along the side of the train, and back at the impact point. I was sad since the deer was just doing what a deer does - leaping around and enjoying life. Sorry to hear that you guys lose roos and emus.
