As you know, there will be some negative remarks. We love our Ram. A couple recommendations i would make is to use Archoil 6500at each fill up, 6400 every 5000 miles. This will help keep your DPF and injectors clean. Also, keep a bottle of Rislone DEF treatment with you. If you start getting issues with your DEF gauge, the Rislone will help to dissolve crystals, especially in hot weather. Enjoy the truck! Its a beauty and you will love it!
Awesome! Thank you for sharing this. I've been trying to research different fuel additives but there are so many it's hard to pick the right one! I didn't realize they have def treatment as well. On the list!
Sorry for the brain injury hope you make a complete recovery. I do know a great GM doctor that can help. I’m here for moral support if you need anything. My BF since high school had the same symptoms and I still talk to him.😊
Congratulations Cody!! We switched from our 2008 F450 to a 2020 RAM 3500 Limited Dually with the 6.7 HO and the Aisin tranny and have never looked back! So much power, the difference is a lot of fun! now you get to get used to DEF!!
Can't go wrong with a hummin Cummins Cody!! especially in a 1 ton Dually.. Can't wait to see the relief on your face once you settle in and get used to it!!
"Grey Ghost". Glad that you found 'the' truck for your needs. I know that feeling of finding 'the one' when my wife and I moved up to a 3/4 ton Chevy 2500 HD High Country gasser, for towing our 32-foot bumper pull. As you've been Ford loyal, but pragmatic, we've been Chevy loyal, but pragmatic. When we decided to upgrade from our Chevy 1500 HD, we looked seriously at Ram and Ford, but the Chevy High Country 6.7l gasser met our needs best (and at the best price), and the interior and ride are fantastic. My wife loves it. I'd debated gas vs. diesel, and ended up with gas, mostly for money reasons ($10K over gas, expensive maintenance/repair costs). The one thing that I REALLY like about a diesel tow vehicle is that refueling is sooooo much easier at truck stops. Getting our gasser into and out of gas stations is very arduous at times. Based on a couple of your past videos, I've installed an airhorn into the Chevy ("Ulysses") and have upgraded the pipes to Borla Catbacks. Love both. My wife and I are also Harley riders; so, we REALLY appreciate nice pipes and a strong horn. I really enjoy your channel. Keep the content coming!!!
Not a thing wrong with a gas truck! Ours served us well. I've got a friend with a high country, that's a Cadillac truck for sure. As I'm now without an air horn, I'll live vicariously through you (for now)!
I had a 2019 F450 pulling a 42 ft, fifth wheel. It had 410 rear end. Gas mileage was never great but loved the truck and tight turning radius. Sold it when we bought our 2021 Renegade Verona super C. We now tow a 2021 F150 behind the coach and it works well. On the other hand, our daughter bought a 2018 Ram 3500 dually new. It now has 139,000 miles on it. She pulls hay and equipment trailers as part of her job and it drives as good today as when she bought it. It rides better than my F450 and gets better fuel economy partly because it has a higher gear ratio rear end. I think it is a 377 gear verses the 410. Just the same it continues to be a great truck so hope you have the same experience. I think you will. Love your channel!❤
Thank you for that! We have had a lot of viewers tell us over time, that they have had a great experience with the Rams. It’s just nerve wrecking to change from what you know. Ya know? It has impressed us so far!
I just upgraded from a F250 SD gas to a Ram 3500 DRW diesel to tote our new Brinkley Z3400 around the country. I could not be happier with both truck and RV. Love the compression brake!
Congratulations on the new truck and especially getting the HO 6.7L Cummins. I have a 2019 and love, love my Ram. I'm not brand guy either but this Ram has been everything towing our 5th wheels around the country. I really think you're going to love this truck.
“Grey Ghost” . I had a SRW Ram Diesel. It was my favorite truck ever. The Dually will be great pulling your 5th Wheel. Not so much parking that wide girl in a city…. Congrats, looks great and you look good in it. Safe Travels!
I have a 2022 Ram 3500 high output and love it. I run the exhaust brake on full any time our truck moves. Check out the Open Road fuel program. It is awesome! The amount of savings you get and being able to use the truck lanes. Also, remember you can't use 15W40 in the 2019 or newer trucks.
Great choice. We have basically the same setup with our '21. You are going to love the 50 gallon tank. Now you can just go to the station with the best price. No clearance issues. We get 10-11 mph @ 64mph towing a 20k lb Mobile Suites. The stability of the dual wheels on that fat bottom girl is comforting. Congratulations, and welcome to the Ram Fam. 🎉
Congrats on the new truck!! 🎉🎊 Having that extra set of tires back there makes a HUGE difference in towing, plus the diesel must make it a whole new experience for you. Using the Open Roads card makes it nice for fueling/DEF. The first mod on our dually was installing a larger fuel tank, went with a 57 gallon Titan tank that replaced the stock, no more fuel range worries! GM didn't have an option for a larger stock tank... We have to meet up this winter and see what kind of trouble we can get into!! 😁 safe travels guys and enjoy the new ride!
Oh nice! We have had to change up quite a few 2025 plans, but hopefully we’ll have some of it lined out soon! We can compare notes! I know how wild Angela gets! 😏
It must be truck season. Alex just bought a new truck.. and it's a dodge and it's grey and it's a big horn..😅😅 just like Cody, he researched it for MONTHS 😅 and had a Ford before to. So he walked in with his check and we walked out 30 minutes later and with a full tank of gas!! No name for ours yet
You made a really good choice. We got a '24 Ram 3500 dually back in April to pull a Brinkley G3950 that we are soon to be getting as soon as we can get our house sold. On your song, good choice there too! that's what we named our Harley trike!
I went from a F350 Gas to a RAM 3500 as well, after buying Fords for over 40 years. You will not be disappointed. I have the same engine in my '22 RAM Mega Cab and you will need to find your sweet spot on your truck. Mine is 70 MPH pulling or not (its that exceeding 2k rpm where the mileage drop off will happen) - you will have to wait until break-in to see your best MPG.
Great, thanks! My mpg is fluctuating quite a bit, but I need a few more tows in, to see how we look over time. We’ll start posting some of them, as we get some miles under it.
I noticed you climbing into the bed of the truck. I'm of a certain age and I put one of the Bestop bed steps on my Ram. One of the best purchases ever . There are other brands, too. Highly recommend.
Thank you! I stole my mini step stool and have been using that. We’ll see how long I last without my step. You don’t realize how much you use that thing!
Woohoo congrats!!! Welcome to the Ram Side!!!! We love our Ram 3500 Bighorn Dually. We love our 50gal tank especially pulling our 45ft toy hauler. Nicole drives our dually but says I make her nervous 😂. We’ve been pulling using the Andersen hitch but planning on swapping out to the Gen Y pin box. Glad y’all made it through the hurricane safely.
Great choice with the new RAM!!! You'll love it and you'll never need to upgrade with a newer, larger trailer. Although, I went from a RAM CTD 2500 to a Chev 3500 Duramax dually and at the time, Chev was wanting to deal and RAM wasn't dealing....I loved my RAM and it did great towing and riding. As for a name, I'd go w/ The Grey Ghost....
@@RVUntethered It's grey, and in the dark, it'll be hard to see... Or you could go w/ the the Grey Goat, since all the old RAMs had a goat hoot ornament...if you remember back that far
Congratulations on the new truck!!! One tip with the Ram, set the exhaust brake on auto. You’ll really appreciate it, I loved that feature of our Ram and miss it with our GMC.
Name it the Gray Ghost It will scare the he'll out of you on how much you'll fall in love with it! Congratulations hope it will take you to all the adventures you can handle.
You’ll love it Cody. Welcome to the Ram family. Watch you all the time. Was really happy for you when this video showed. Just make sure Angie doesn’t put gas in that tank.
Was letting the wife watch your video, so now she called Laura dodge, and now we’re trying to buy a another ram, except this one is a Dually, for we pull a 40’ Montana 5th wheel. Wish us luck Buck & Donna😂
We love ours almost the same as we didn’t get the dually but long bed big horn. Hope you already got the open roads card for diesel savings. Enjoy your ride,
Congrats on the new RAM 3500 dually we are over 100k on ours and still love it. That 50 gallon tank and 4:10 gears are awesome. One thing I have recently learned is these Cummins have hydraulic lifters so as it gets some more miles it's recommended to use a 10w30 instead of the heavier oil as it will destroy the lifters prematurely.
Cody and Angela congratulations on the new truck. I myself had alway been a Chevy person but when looking at the towing rating, and the room the Rams have inside I became a Ram owner also. There are a few things you need to get now. (1)a new set of Train Horns. (2) A bed cover Tyger has a great one that fits perfect around $300.00. But you will Love your new truck. Also Cody I noticed you stepped up on the bumper getting in the back. There is a pull down step under the bumper on the rivers side. If they still put them on with that stay safe and very happy travels.
Thank you! We've had all of the big three now that we've got a Ram in the driveway. I'm honestly not partial, they're all good trucks. We don't have a bumper step but I've found a way around that (stay tuned). I'll probably check to see if there's an add on step. I've seen those and I really like them. Stay tuned to see what we do to outfit our new ride!
Love the truck - I went from Ram Gas to a new Duramax this year. The diesel is amazing. You probably already did this - Grease that hitch plate or better yet - get a teflon disc. You didn't have to do that with the slider you had but your 5th wheel is a friction point on a fixed hitch. Lube it up.
Loving the diesel so far! PullRite recommends spray lube for the plate so we’re keeping up with that. I also painted with with graphite spray which really helps keep things slick! Anything to avoid traditional grease. Angela complains! 😆
@@RVUntethered I greased mine one time. Then spent an hour cleaning grease off of it 2 days later to add the teflon disc. Grease is too much mess for me.
You will love the Ram 3500!! I have a 2014 with 53500 miles and would never get another kind of truck except Ram. Pull great and not bad on mileage. We have an Alliance 340rl, it weighs around 15400 loaded. Pulls it like a champ at 12 miles to the gallon. Welcome to the Ram family. You two have one of the best channels on u tube I have NO doubt your channel will get to the very top!!! Best of luck to you both. Take care .
We took the time and went and built our own Truck and saved us a lot of money. 2022 Lariat F-350 DRW 6.7. Could not find any thing we wanted. And this was during Covid too. Ordered it in June 2021 and arrived at dealership in Sept.2021. Couldn't believe it when we were told it would arrive in March 2022. We looked at Rams and we couldn't find a truck without carpet. We didn't want carpet. In our F-350 DRW we Got a tow package sprayed bed floor mats window Lariat package with electric mirrors we picked the Lariat package without all the sensors. Mirrors do light up when vehicles are near when towing. Good luck on your Ram
That’s awesome! We got lucky with our Ford during Covid too, but it got sketchy. We would get offers for our truck in gas station parking lots, because people were having a hard time getting what they want.
@@RVUntethered Here what a friend told me about yesterday on his Ram Cummins. thought it might interest you I had a Banks Monster Ram air intake manifold installed. It wasn’t cheap (~$1,000 for parts and another ~$450 for installation), but it was cheap insurance. While the design improves airflow which results in better performance and a slight increase in fuel mileage, I bought it for the insurance aspect. The OEM intake has the grid heater integrated. The grid heater heats the incoming air when it’s cold outside….something needed for diesel engines. They don’t like cold. The bolt on the grid heater has been known to corrode or come loose. When it does, it falls into the #6 cylinder and causes catastrophic results which can cost from $12,000-$30,000 in damages, depending on impacts to the transmission and drivetrain when it happens. I know our 2015 F-350 6. had a turbo go out on us account of a issue with them. Wish we would have known about it before it set us on the side of the road. Thats a good story too. Sure yall have stories too. Us F/Ters can tell some for sure. Take Care yall.
@@rvfuntimes6144I have heard about that! I struggle with spending the money when it’s under warranty, but I go back and forth on it. Maybe after warranty.
@@RVUntethered helps a tonnnn lol. Almost half the trucks life has been haulin 43ft 5th wheel. I just let the exhaust brake eat every chance it gets to
Now that you have a diesel make sure that the nozzle you use is diesel. Don't rely on the green nozzle covers, read the pump. Ask me how I know. I was coming across the country and all the pump nozzles I used up to a point were green. That is until I reached Iowa. I ended up putting 5 gallons of gasoline in my diesel truck. After that I had it siphoned out and put 1 quart of automatic transmission fluid in and filled the remainder with the correct fuel. I still have the truck and have had no issues.
Yes! We are pretty excited about that aspect of it. Not that we are planning on buying a new rig, but if we did have a bigger one, we couldn’t imagine getting in and out of gas pumps.
Congratulations on your new truck, I have been using a product called the fuel box manufactured in Visalia California the lower half is fuel tank the upper half is a toolbox it has automatic transfer from the fuel tank to your main fuel tank in your truck I highly recommend this product I have been using one for the last 10 years it has really saved me from having to pay high fuel prices when I can go further to get to another state that has lower prices have fun with that new long bed dually
Had a Ram 2017 3500 4x4 crew cab Laramie dually with the CUMMINS diesel for five years. Not one problem. I towed a 41 foot Montana. Hitch weight was 3450. The air suspension is mind boggling. I averaged a one inch drop when I hitched up. Recently traded for another Ram 3500 Limited Longhorn crew cab dually. New truck has a lot of newer options such as the 50 gallon fuel tank, surround view camera system , HO Cummins, air suspension, 4.10 rear gear ratio. Lots more interior options. Old truck averaged 10.3 mpg towing and 18.5-19 mpg on the road. New truck averaged 13 mpg on the road. Not towed with it yet. Looking forward to towing with it.
Cody, congratulations on the granite crystal RAM dually! I converted from a GM man a decade ago, and have had nothing but RAM trucks since. My 2019 5th Gen 1500 Limited is the same color as yours, but I have towed our Solitude exclusively with my 2015 RAM 3500 Laramie Longhorn 4×4 crew cab dually long bed with Cummins/AISIN/4.10 powertrain. No big OE fuel tank offered back then, but I swapped the OE for an aftermarket S&B tank. With the rear OE airbags and Reese Goosebox, we absolutely love the range and tow quality! As a former mechanic and a professional engineer, I do all my maintenance and plenty of advanced repair work (still have sticks and bricks with a full shop). I run only Mopar, Fleetgard, or Wix filters, Rotella T6 engine oil, SynPower full synthetic gear lube in the diffs, Mopar fluid in the T-case, and the AISIN gets ASRC/3309. Have never added a drop of additive to diesel or DEF, but always fill with fresh as possible and none of it sits even being a part-time RVer. I have found the rear differential needs more frequent changes even with good freeboard on payload and axle limits, which I attribute to long runs at highway speed with 4.10s along with the frequent climbs living in the mountains. I service the AISIN sooner than the maintenance schedule and always do filter and fluid. I installed a supplemental fuel prefilter setup when I swapped the tank, and change that filter at the same time I do an oil change, and the $10 filter doubles the life of the factory filters! I highly recommend adding the prefilter! Oh, I change engine oil and filter every 9K after lab analyses helped identify the sweet spot. Additionally, I encourage you to run Centramatics front and rear. I also personally run Crossfire equalizers for each pair of rear tires and the evenness of tire wear has been incredible since doing so. The manufacturer can set custom pressure and make custom hose length for an excellent setup for these! Enjoy the new towing experience!
Thanks for all of that. I’ve heard a lot about fuel treatments but we only fill up in places that turn over fuel and we virtually never sit. I did hear advice to treat the def, not sure on that. I do plan to go with T6 for the oil and start an analysis program from day one. Good stuff!
WOW! The new truck looks nice with your 5th wheel! Color coordinated! 😊 BTW, I used to solve programming issues in my sleep all the time, must be a geek quality LOL!
Hey Cody. Nice truck. Can’t go wrong with a Dooley. I own a 2022 ford f350 Dooley 6.7 and I keep the exhaust brake on auto all the time towing or not. It help keeps the turbo cleaner from buildup. Enjoy that new pulling power!
Get ready for higher maintenance cost, as a diesel engine owner for 30+ years one of the first things you will learn is to change the fuel filter if any engine problems arise, and use a high quality fuel treatment in every tank of fuel.
I’ve owned a Dodge… it was a fantastic truck. I kept it 14 years. I’m in a F250 again but I shopped GMC, Ford, and Dodge. Congratulations on the new truck!
Sorry for the second post. I am not sure if you all are considering air bags for your dually, but I would highly recommend going with sumo springs versus air bags. I had airbags on my SRW F350. When I switched to a DRW I had consider adding air bags, but after some research I opted for sumo springs. I couldn’t be happier with the decision. I’ve towed our 42 foot fifth wheel (GVWR ~17,500) nearly 2K miles with this setup and it works great. I am also curious about your decision on not going with some type of gooseneck conversion. We tow with the gen y gooseneck and am extremely happy. I know you (Cody) are in the transportation industry for which you reference as a decision to not go with the gooseneck conversion. I am curious about your opinion around the stress lateral movement puts on your trailer frame using a kingpin. A kingpin setup doesn’t seem to allow much lateral movement (side to side). This is not the reason we went with a gooseneck. I am curious to know your opinions on the subject.
More posts = more better! As of now, I don't think we'll be adding air to the truck. Our trailer really doesn't squat it and the ride is great! With a heavier trailer (someday), I may change my mind. Our current pin weight doesn't really call for it, yet :) As far as the hitch, it's probably a mental thing for me. I've seen 18 wheelers do 500k and many more miles without a fifth wheel issue and aside from user error, they're pretty much foolproof. I really liked the Pullrite OEX ball & coupler setup but I just couldn't pull away from the fifth wheel. My only real thought is that Grand Design/Winnebago designed our rig with a fifth wheel, probably better not to rock the boat just in case something happens. Frame issues seem to be all of the rage right now so we're really cautious about changing things & make sure our weights are in check consistently.
I get that regarding the kingpin. My FIL is an over the road long haul driver. He has a similar opinion. Our main reason for the gooseneck was bed space and the easy of having access to the entire bed. I believe lateral frame stress is unique to fifth wheels, especially if the frames are under built. You won’t see those same issues with tractor trailers, because they are over built. If you all are ever back in east TN, it would be great to meet you all.
We had some big changes recently, that have caused us to completely tear our plans apart (with the exception of Florida in January), BUT we are trying to put some stuff together, so we are a little more accessible through the year. Some meetups, or something. :)
There’s no break-in for the engine, but for the dually not need the break-in for the rear driveline? We upgraded our 1500 to a 2500 this past year and went through the 500 mile break-in procedure for the rear and not towing over 50mph. That being said, we love our RAMs! (Coming from previous Ford owners as well) Once you have a diesel exhaust break for towing in the mountains, you’ll never go back to gas. Enjoy!
We love our Ram too! The owners manual (well there isn't one but the online version) didn't specify a break in period for any of it. I babied it around empty for 500 miles then sent it to work! The exhaust break is incredible. We love that!
Congrats on the new truck! I have a SRW version of the HO with 3:73 gears. We live in a 36' fifth wheel and don't plan on going bigger, so SRW was the way to go for us. I was a Chevy guy, but in "02 I bought a 3/4 ton Dodge with the Cummins, and towed/drove it for 22 years! Sold it with 250,000 miles and bought our current Ram. My "wants" were the same as yours: 50 gal, long bed, H.O. You will love this truck and you will NOT even know your current trailer is behind you. Safe travels!
Thank you! You're right, I forget our fifth wheel is back there. This HO is something else. I really think you'll like those 3.73 gears especially for the sake of fuel economy. The duals took some getting used to, but we're getting there!
We had a 2003 Ram 2500 for 16 years and 112k mikes. Other than the terrible Dodge automatic transmission, it was a great truck. So far, the Asin Automatic transmissions seem okay. Absolutely love the Cummins engine and its torque. It takes some getting used to the lack or acceleration, especially when entering a freeway/interstate. But you'll get used to it,
I've owned Ford's my entire life (61) but came to the same conclusion back in 2018. Purchased my Ram 2500 for 10k less than an F250 and been happy with it ever since. Cheap advice, purchase an oil filter plug for oil changes.
I am jealous of your new toy. I was only able to get at '17 Ram 2500 diesel. This is my 4th Dodge, my 3rd Ram, my first diesel. LOVE IT! Yes, I have had to get somethings repaired due to past owner's neglect, but towing is wonderful. Went from towing a 25' 6000# towable to a 35' 12000# 5th wheel. The truck never batted an eye. And the diesel brakes are joyous! Someday, I will make it up to a dually, but I have too many years of commuting to make it worth the expense/wear and tear. Safe travels.
CONGRATULAYIONS . WE STILL USE OUR DEIESL 1992 PLOW SNOW TOW . AND OUR 1011 FOR R.V . HAVE 50 GAL UNDER . AND 50 IN BOX . WE WISH YOU GREAT HEALTH AND HAPPY TRAILS .
❤❤ I just got around to watching this video. We have that exact truck, except of course ours is 2022, she is red. We named her SCARLETT. I had to laugh out loud because we sing Fat Bottom Girl about our truck too!😅 😂. If we ever get a vanity plate it would be THICC! Some day we'll have to tell the story of how we ended up with our Ram on our channel. I love to see that huge grin on your face! Safe travels! ❤LauraD (great dealer name too!)
Congratulations you guys!! That has to be excited to have a beautiful new truck!! By the way, Coty are you going to get another bull horn for your new truck? I didn't hear you say anything about it! Love you guys, Enjoy your videos every week.
I had a 2019 Ram Big Horn diesel. Unfortunately it had lifter issues and the 68RFE trans started acting up so ended up trading it out for a Ford. Really liked the ride and interior fit and finish along with the better turning radius of the Ram. So far jury is out with the Ford as have only had it a year. The power stroke is a beast but transmission is a bit wonky and truck interior isn’t as nice. All the big 3 seem to have good and bad trucks nowadays it seems.
I’m impressed, I had you pegged as a Ford fanboy loyalist. I know Ram is making some nice deals with big discounts, and is still a solid truck. I kind of like the GMC look right now, but I’m a couple of years away from a big truck purchase along with a 5th wheel. Congrats!
@@RVUntethered will be curious to get your thoughts on driving a dually when you are exploring towns without the RV. I know you mentioned possibly getting a larger RV, which makes sense with the diesel and dually. We’re hoping to stay under 35 feet and get by with single rear wheel, not sure on diesel vs. Gas.
Congrats on the new mule! I think all the big 3 are making great trucks. I went with Ram because I like the exterior styling and the interior has the best layout for my preference. I've never been comfortable in a F-series Ford, and never been fond of the IFS in GM's. Only one word of caution to share: it looks like that has the OEM highway tires, which should still be Nexens far as I know. I know you're already careful about inflation, but also watch for tread separation on the steers. I've had 2 new Ram 3500 dualies in a row (now have a '22 and the previous was a '19) have a steer tire go bad at around 16-17k. When you approach that mileage, be extra sensitive to any pull or vibration. Jack up the front and look for a bulge in the tread before anything else. And just sayin, Diamond Black Crystal Pearl-Coat -is- a faster color. 😉
Thank you! That’s a good call on those tires. I’ve never heard of the brand or that issue but I’ll be on the lookout. I hadn’t heard of that previously.
@@RVUntethered I read somewhere Nexen is a S. Korea brand. Their car tires are generally regarded as good from what I've seen. Seemed to be more widely available in Europe.I've run across several Ram dually owners that have experienced the same thing at the same mileage as I have.
Corey, You guys are absolutely going to enjoy the Ram 3500 Cummins. We have a 3500 w Cummins, tow a Brinkley Z3100. I've had a pull rite slider w previous 5th wheel. Started w Reese goosebox on the Brinkley, then went to GenY Gooseball and the B&W hitch...we really like the GenY...and we have the entire truck bed available. Enjoy and Safe travels.
Thanks! We are liking it so far! It’s funny how much anxious you can be, going to a new brand, but we had a lot of great suggestions in the comments. That is pretty much, what got us to looking at them.
The CP3 really isn't an issue if you use a quality lubricant and change the upper and lower fuel filters early and often. Also helps to limit idle time. And if you are that freaked out by it just get a disaster kit or do the dcr swap. Nothing like a ford super duty.
You will love the diesel both up the hills and especially down them with the exhaust brake. I went for a new truck this year as well, but went with the GMC 3500 SRW/Duramax. Just could not get past the roller lifter issues being reported to go with the new Cummins. Drove several Dodge/Cummins years ago as work trucks and they were solid engines but with flat tappet lifters. The L5P Gen-II has treated us well so far. Hope you have excellent luck with your new TV. Old blue certainly treated you good!! All the best to you both!
The new truck is exactly what I’ve been wanting even the color. My current 2015 F250 has 267k miles replaced the CP4 before it became an issue. I can’t decide if I want a toy hauler or just a roomy 5th wheel.
After it breaks in u should be getting 12 mpg. I have a 5er just about same size. I have a 2014 w Aisin trans. 4.10 rearend. FYI get the plug for oil filter
We got our 3500 RAM Dually from Mark Dodge in LA and they filled our 50-gallon tank full. Even though we have a long bed i am still using our Pullrite Autoslider. I am on the lookout for another hitch but this thing cost me $2500 so hard to part with.
Cody, I'm both shocked and ecstatic at what you've done. We also have a Ram 3500 limited, 2012 Crew cab 8' bed DRW. Our rig is a Reflection 303. You will not regret buying this bad boy! Although, you realize that maintenance is more expensive with a diesel. Run a good fuel additive. And finding parking for that beast will be a challenge at times.
Parking is definitely a hurdle. I’m still learning on the maintenance and a little excited to compare the cost and records to what we have had in the past.
I went from a mega cab dually to an f450 You made a good choice. Enjoy the exhaust/engine brake!!!!! Way better than my f450. I loved my ram. Ride on Brother!!!
Congrats on the new truck! I did the same thing this past June. We were camping at Watkins Glen State Park and the Ram dealer had 2 identical duallies on the lot and they were ready to deal. Gave me a fantastic trade in on my 2020 F250 Tremor gasser and a great deal on the RAM. Mine is also a Bighorn but mine has the big screen and the factory airbags. We aren't full time so I've only towed with it on 4 trips but with 3000 miles on it so far I love it. It rides much better than the Ford did and so far it has been cheaper to fuel up using the Open Roads card. Oh, and get the kick out bed step. It makes it real easy to get in and out of the bed. Your knees will thank me when you get old like me.
Nice! I do agree this truck rides way better than my F-350. We don't have factory air but I don't think I'll need air at all with our current trailer. It really doesn't squat! I've got the open roads application in, just playing the waiting game now. I've had a few people recommend that bed step & I'm going to check into that. I really miss the tailgate step on my Ford!
Congratulations on a great truck. We have the 2020 regular 4 wheel 3500 with the 6.7 Cummins. Great fuel mileage and tons of power with all the creatures comforts in the cab. You won’t be sorry for your decision. Super nice looking truck. The adventures start again.
Nice truck! Congratulations!! I have a Chevy High Country mainly because my dad worked for GM and I was able to get employee discount. I too love driving the diesel truck. 20.5 mpg and towing 11.5. So much power and torque through the mountains. Sorry about the limbs falling hope the slide is fine. Installed the train horn? With the new hitch you don’t need the capture plate? A southern well is called a whale… my family is from extreme SE Missouri…
The hills have been pretty great with this truck, for sure! Ang shut down the train horns for this one. ☹️ No capture plate needed. Just a good, classic hitch. Our ‘country’ comes out a little worse sometimes. 😁
My 2021 Ford F-350 7.3 gasser was a nightmare from losing reverse twice , driveshaft pinion seal leaking , window regulator issues , back in a Ram 2500. My 3rd Ram HD never an issue with any of them ! Good luck 👍🍀
Name it Rosie….as in A whole lotta…😀. Next time go with the husky floor mats. I’ve had both and they are for superior. In my opinion they don’t curl down on the edges even after two or three years. Love your channel! Very informative, retiring in a year or so and our plan is to do what you are doing now.
Very true, just part of the deal with the diesel. I plan to do as much of the maintenance as I can to mitigate cost. Luckily the warranty on the Ram as far as internally lubricated parts & emissions is 100k miles. At least from a repair perspective, I should be good to go for a bit.
Cody, I am a little amazed by your buying a Ram truck. I understand the fantastic deal would probably make me do the same, good luck with the Gray Lady. My F350 DRW only has 572 miles on it and I’m getting 16.4 not towing. I’m like you I loved the look of the Ford, and really glad y’all didn’t have any damage from the hurricane we had no power and trees down but compared to North Carolina we were very lucky. I must agree the wide hips are a learning curve for sure, great video!
Congrats on the new rig! I can understand the stress of buying a new vehicle and pulling a fifth wheel without time to test everything out. This past summer we took a road trip from Wa to Tx with our 2017 Ram and fifth wheel. When we got to Tx we stopped by a local dealership and they just happened to have the exact truck we were looking for and had a huge discount on it. After a couple nights of debating, we pulled the trigger on a 2024 Ram dually. It was a little nerve racking knowing our first real test drive of the truck was gonna be a roadtrip back to Wa pulling a fifth wheel. Haha! But all went well.
We agree with most of the comments here! HOWEVER..... What about your train horn? Very cool setup! We love the lines on the Ram Dually vs the 350 SD dually!
Congrats on the new truck, really nice upgrade!! By the way, if you have GEICO auto insurance they have a really good mechanical breakdown coverage for only $10 a month. Catch is you vehicle has to be new and the coverage has to be added within 15k miles.
Sounds like a good upgrade! I'm not brand loyal. I love my GMC 2500, but you have tripled my towing capacity. Dually trucks are MADE for towing.. I think you should keep it for 300k miles.. ;)

My BF since high school had the same symptoms and I still talk to him.😊
🤣🤣🤣Hilarious!
Welcome to the RAM family . Mine pulls a North point 382 FLRB and I have no issues
FATTY BOOM BOOM
HAHA! At least when he calls it Fat Bottomed Girl, I know he is MOST DEFINITELY NOT talking about me! LOL
😂 Appreciate your honesty 😅
Congratulations Cody!! We switched from our 2008 F450 to a 2020 RAM 3500 Limited Dually with the 6.7 HO and the Aisin tranny and have never looked back! So much power, the difference is a lot of fun! now you get to get used to DEF!!
Awesome! Thanks!
Can't go wrong with a hummin Cummins Cody!! especially in a 1 ton Dually.. Can't wait to see the relief on your face once you settle in and get used to it!!
I like how it climbs the hills! Wow!
That's what my dad said he'd name it.
Welcome to the Ram family. We have a 1500 and 2500. We have one for our daily driver and one to tow with. We love our Rams!!!❤
Thank you!!
Thank you! We are loving the truck so far. That engine brake is the real deal!
Engine brake is awesome
I just upgraded from a F250 SD gas to a Ram 3500 DRW diesel to tote our new Brinkley Z3400 around the country. I could not be happier with both truck and RV. Love the compression brake!
Awesome! The brakes are pretty great! We are still playing with them on travel days.
Congratulations on the new truck and especially getting the HO 6.7L Cummins. I have a 2019 and love, love my Ram. I'm not brand guy either but this Ram has been everything towing our 5th wheels around the country. I really think you're going to love this truck.
Thank you! It has impressed me so far! I sweat over this one though. It is an expensive investment to TEST something!
“Grey Ghost” . I had a SRW Ram Diesel. It was my favorite truck ever. The Dually will be great pulling your 5th Wheel. Not so much parking that wide girl in a city…. Congrats, looks great and you look good in it. Safe Travels!
The parking and city situation is definitely a concern, but not much more than what we already had with the blue truck.
OMG Your New truck is BEAUTIFUL! Congratulations. I'm so Excited for you two. NICE JOB!!!
Thank you so much!
Dude! Yes, you are going to love that truck. Had mine almost a year. The Cummins HO will pull like no other. Tows our 337RL like a dream.
Awesome! It has impressed me so far!
Thank you! That was one of the first things I looked up in the manual and was glad that I did!
Oh nice, thank you! 😁 NOT having to stop in transit, is so nice!
You're gunna LOVE it! The Cummins pulls so well! Congratulations!!!
I hope so! It has impressed me so far!
@@RVUntethered There is a lot of room for an air horn under the 8' bed as well :)
HAHA. Happy Spouse...happy house!
I can’t believe Cody splurged on a new truck. I know he has already googled which toll bridges charge more for dual rear tires lol. Congrats!
🤣🤣
Awesome! And you’re happy with it so far?
@@RVUntethered yes, we LOVE it. He loves how it drives and tows!
And you will love, love the exhaust brake in the mountains.
It's pretttttty cool!
You made a really good choice. We got a '24 Ram 3500 dually back in April to pull a Brinkley G3950 that we are soon to be getting as soon as we can get our house sold. On your song, good choice there too! that's what we named our Harley trike!
That’s awesome! The Brinkleys are nice!
We did the same. Best $150 i spent on Amazon.
Thanks guys! We are getting used to it slowly, but we are really excited about the gas tank!
Thanks!
That’s the third Gray Ghost! 😁Is there a significance that I’m missing? 😬
@@RVUntethered It's grey, and in the dark, it'll be hard to see... Or you could go w/ the the Grey Goat, since all the old RAMs had a goat hoot ornament...if you remember back that far
AHHHH.. Yeah that's good too!
Welcome to the 3500 Dually Family it is a awesome truck. Even better with the air suspension!
Thank you! 😎
Congratulations on the new Ram!! Old blue will miss you !!
Safe travels !!!!
Thanks! 😊
Congratulations on the new truck!!! One tip with the Ram, set the exhaust brake on auto. You’ll really appreciate it, I loved that feature of our Ram and miss it with our GMC.
Thanks! We haven’t played with the brake too much, but we are loving it so far!
Name it the Gray Ghost
It will scare the he'll out of you on how much you'll fall in love with it!
Congratulations hope it will take you to all the adventures you can handle.
Thank you! 😊
+1 for the Gray Ghost. I was also going to suggest that.
Give it a mules name like Kate or Jake
We got a LOT of those!
AHAHAHA
You’ll love it Cody. Welcome to the Ram family. Watch you all the time. Was really happy for you when this video showed. Just make sure Angie doesn’t put gas in that tank.
Thank you! 🤣🤣 There IS a concern!
Was letting the wife watch your video, so now she called Laura dodge, and now we’re trying to buy a another ram, except this one is a Dually, for we pull a 40’ Montana 5th wheel. Wish us luck
Buck & Donna😂
Hilarious! Good luck on your hunt!
Take it from a 4 time Ram owner you won't be sorry!!!! I Love my Cummins you will love it!!!!
Awesome! It has impressed me so far!
We love ours almost the same as we didn’t get the dually but long bed big horn. Hope you already
got the open roads card for diesel savings. Enjoy your ride,
Yes! I didn’t realize that the card would take so long, but I’m working on that! 😊
Awesome, thank you! 😊
Congratulations!! That's a beautiful truck, enjoy.
I am alittle jealous of the 50 gal fuel tank.
Thank you! We are pretty excited about it!
Congratulations!🎉 We are typically Ford people also but for the same reason switched to Ram. We have been happy with ours. Enjoy!
Awesome!
Lube it up.
We thought about the Teflon plate on this one, but we just did graphite spray to start.
Congratulations you guys … Ford, Dodge, GM ….. doesn’t matter you checked the boxes and got what you wanted. Sweet, Enjoy and stay safe !
Thank ya! 😊
Very nice Truck! The 50 gallon tank got Mike excited! Make sure you get the Open Roads EFS diesel card. Congratulations!
Yes, thanks!!
We have a SRW 3500, Standard bed (6'3")...replaced stock fuel tank w 52 gallon aftermarket...really enjoy not constantly thinking about fuel.
@@TJinJaxFL I may need to do that!
@@TJinJaxFLI could see that!
Congratulations. You will love the new truck. I purchased one 3 months ago. The prices on the Ram were great.
Yes! Thanks!
Take care .
Thank you for the kind words! So nice!
Congrats on the new truck...Your honest opinions and experiences will serve me well in a few years 😉
Thank you! I’m interested to see the comparisons too.
We love our Ram diesel!….pulls our Reflection like there is nothing behind us! Congratulations!!!…Much love Cindy !
I believe that! It has been impressive so far!
Exhaust brakes are amazing. Mine stays on , got 155k miles out of original factory oem front pads and 175k miles rear oem pads.
Yes! I wondered how much life it helped on the brakes!
@@RVUntethered helps a tonnnn lol. Almost half the trucks life has been haulin 43ft 5th wheel. I just let the exhaust brake eat every chance it gets to
It makes sense!
Oh no!!! We are a little afraid of that. But that does give us hope that if we mess up, maybe it’s fixable. At least..if we don’t start it. 🤣
Dam BP stations
Even without the bigger tank the rig fuel lanes are so much easier to get in and out of rather than gas pumps
Yes! We are pretty excited about that aspect of it. Not that we are planning on buying a new rig, but if we did have a bigger one, we couldn’t imagine getting in and out of gas pumps.
Welcome to the family! We have been loyal to Ram for years. Your first song was perfect for the dually 😂
Thanks so much! HA! At least I know that he's not talking about me (Ang), when he calls it his Fat Bottomed Girl! BAHAHA
Oh man! That would be nice!
Nice! So far I've seen 17 on the highway & about 10.5 towing but I expect that to improve as it breaks in. Congrats on your new truck!
Haha! Yeah, it’s a burden to never stop thinking!
Nice truck!!!!!!!!!!! Glad our lovely Indiana weather didn't destroy your truck & RV!!! Safe travels!
Haha! It was mild compared to what others were and are dealing with. Trees are just unpredictable!
I went from a f350 to a Ram 3500 about 10 years ago and never looked back. You will absolutely love your Ram.
Awesome! I am excited to see how it does long term.
Hey Cody. Nice truck. Can’t go wrong with a Dooley. I own a 2022 ford f350 Dooley 6.7 and I keep the exhaust brake on auto all the time towing or not. It help keeps the turbo cleaner from buildup. Enjoy that new pulling power!
Oh that’s a good point! I’m still playing with the brake system, but I am loving it so far!
Welcome to the Ram diesel family. You’ll really like that engine and exhaust brake when you head to the mountains out west.
Thank you! The brake is pretty awesome! We ran some pretty big hills in Missouri and Arkansas and it just wasn’t phased!
Get ready for higher maintenance cost, as a diesel engine owner for 30+ years one of the first things you will learn is to change the fuel filter if any engine problems arise, and use a high quality fuel treatment in every tank of fuel.
Oh man! I was looking in to some of it, but I am anxious to see the difference between the two.
I’ve owned a Dodge… it was a fantastic truck. I kept it 14 years. I’m in a F250 again but I shopped GMC, Ford, and Dodge. Congratulations on the new truck!
Awesome! Thank you!
@@RVUntethered That would be great!! Safe travels.
But you'll get used to it,
Perfect! We need to get some more tows in, but it has impressed us so far!
I've owned Ford's my entire life (61) but came to the same conclusion back in 2018. Purchased my Ram 2500 for 10k less than an F250 and been happy with it ever since. Cheap advice, purchase an oil filter plug for oil changes.
I have the oil plug in my cart, thanks! What a crazy setup on something that they KNOW you will have to get to!
Thank you! I am anxious to see how it does over time, in comparison. The exhaust brake is incredible, for sure!
CONGRATULAYIONS . WE STILL USE OUR DEIESL 1992 PLOW SNOW TOW . AND OUR 1011 FOR R.V . HAVE 50 GAL UNDER . AND 50 IN BOX . WE WISH YOU GREAT HEALTH AND HAPPY TRAILS .
Oh nice!! I am loving the big gas tank! I haven’t had to stop on travel day yet and it has been great!
That’s awesome! 😀😀
Congratulations you guys!! That has to be excited to have a beautiful new truck!! By the way, Coty are you going to get another bull horn for your new truck? I didn't hear you say anything about it! Love you guys, Enjoy your videos every week.
Angela has shut down the horn. ☹️ I did get to blow it one last time though and scare the sales guys. 🤣
Interesting! I agree on all options having their problems. I guess we just have to decide which we can live with.
CONGRATS on the New Wheels! Call it "SMOKEY"
Love it! Thanks!
We have a 2023 RAM CTD HO 4x 4 LB and so far it’s been a good rig. I certainly wish we had the 50 gallon tank… Enjoy the new rig!
Awesome, thank you! I am pretty excited about the gas tank, for sure!
I’m impressed, I had you pegged as a Ford fanboy loyalist. I know Ram is making some nice deals with big discounts, and is still a solid truck. I kind of like the GMC look right now, but I’m a couple of years away from a big truck purchase along with a 5th wheel. Congrats!
Haha! I’m not sure what to expect but it’ll be interesting to compare the two.
You’re right, there are ways to mitigate the potential issues but I just didn’t want to deal with it.
Thanks! I do like the GMCs. They are really nice trucks!
The new truck is exactly what I’ve been wanting even the color. My current 2015 F250 has 267k miles replaced the CP4 before it became an issue. I can’t decide if I want a toy hauler or just a roomy 5th wheel.
Wow! Well you definitely got some miles out of it!
@@RVUntethered since upgrading from the CP4 I’m getting 22 mpg it’s also been smog free for the last 10k miles.
Check out Bullet Point phone holder and GPS holder for the Ram money well spent.
Wow! That's excellent!
After it breaks in u should be getting 12 mpg. I have a 5er just about same size. I have a 2014 w Aisin trans. 4.10 rearend. FYI get the plug for oil filter
That would be awesome! I just put the plug in my cart! Thanks! 😊
Come to Oklahoma to purchase your next truck! Our dealer filled the tank before we drove off with our GMC Sierra 2500 diesel!!
Nice! Maybe we got some cheapskates in the past. 🤣
We got our 3500 RAM Dually from Mark Dodge in LA and they filled our 50-gallon tank full. Even though we have a long bed i am still using our Pullrite Autoslider. I am on the lookout for another hitch but this thing cost me $2500 so hard to part with.
Oh nice! We COULD have used our slider. We have just been so excited about getting more bed space in there!
@@RVUntethered yes as soon as I can sell mine I am looking at the OEX.
They make a good product!
@@RVUntethered 13 quarts oil gets expensive but not so bad if you do it yourself. just buy a gallon at a time so it doesn't sting all at once.
I went from a mega cab dually to an f450 You made a good choice. Enjoy the exhaust/engine brake!!!!! Way better than my f450. I loved my ram. Ride on Brother!!!
Thank ya! The exhaust brake is pretty awesome!
@@RVUntethered I had the tailgate step in a previous F150 and I think the RAM bed step is much more convenient.
Signup for Open Roads so you can pull into those Truck lanes getting diesel and longer poles for window washing!
Congrats on the new ride!
Thank ya!
I didn’t realize that it would take so long to get it, once we applied, but I’m working on that one! Can’t wait!
Congratulations 🎉. You will enjoy that truck. Good choice.
Thanks so much!
Great choice ❤ thinking of names maybe whale tail or big smokey. Enjoy and safe travels
🤣Whale Tail!
We have a 2022 Ram Dually and we pull a 24k GVWR 5th wheel. It pulls it easy and we Love the 50 gallon fuel tank too. Enjoy
Nice! I am loving the larger fuel tank and exhaust brake! 😊
Thank ya! We hope so! We are excited to see what it can do.
No capture plate needed.
Oh man, I hate to hear that. It can happen with any brand, I suppose, but I am excited to see how it compares over time.
I like it! 😁
I’ve had good luck with the mudflaps . I may try them next time!
Nice truck! I have a 22 F350 diesel and have loved every minute of it. That Ram interior looks very nice.
Thank ya! I have no doubt that the Ford is a great truck! I'm excited to see how they compare over time.
Best advice my husband gave me when we bought diesels, Everything on a diesel is expensive, don’t freak out
Very true, just part of the deal with the diesel.
Thank ya! We are still getting used to the truck in tight areas 😬
@@RVUntethered y’all are great and the uptick in videos is a welcome change! Stay safe out there.
Uptick in the pace of the videos, or the amount of videos?
@@RVUntethered I’m noticing more and enjoying them even more, please keep up the amazing videos.
Beautiful truck, Cody/Angela congratulations, I've been a Ram guy for years, very few problems.
Thank you so much!
That’s great! It gave us a little anxiety, hooking up and towing for the first time. The unknown is the scariest!
Whoa major upgrade in trucks. We have a Ram 2500 that has served us well.
Awesome, thanks! 😎
We agree with most of the comments here! HOWEVER..... What about your train horn? Very cool setup! We love the lines on the Ram Dually vs the 350 SD dually!
🤣🤣Ang shut it down on this one.
Congrats on the new truck, really nice upgrade!! By the way, if you have GEICO auto insurance they have a really good mechanical breakdown coverage for only $10 a month. Catch is you vehicle has to be new and the coverage has to be added within 15k miles.
That’s great information, thanks! I didn’t know that!
Nice truck! Great deals on Rams right now. Now let’s talk about that toy hauler and side by side…..
🤣🤣WHOOOOAAAAAAA! Slooow down!
We love our RAM diesel. We’ve had the Ford diesel and Chevy diesel. This is our fourth RAM.
Awesome! We’re excited to see how it does.
Sounds like a good upgrade! I'm not brand loyal. I love my GMC 2500, but you have tripled my towing capacity. Dually trucks are MADE for towing.. I think you should keep it for 300k miles.. ;)
No reason we couldn’t!
