Kyle and Renee y’all are great when you meet you fans and followers on the street. The tire issue has always been an issue with trailers. I just spent over $1500.00 on new tires and brakes on our Fifth Wheel. We don’t travel full time and our RV is only 3 years old it setts a lot in the garage. They said that’s not good for RV’s. Thanks for all the info stay safe and happy travels
We had a recent blowout on our tow behind last month. It was a $4500 repair. Even though the tires looked good and the pressure was correct. Stay safe. And I'll keep watching.
Kyle, the equalizer between the two axles takes care of your "nose high" FW. That's what they are designed to do ... take care of any issues concerning front to rear and side to side balance.
I agree to a degree. The suspension is leaf springs so the rear leaf will get more weight if the rig is tilted up. The frame pushes the rear most spring shackle down while lifting the front most spring shackle up. In the middle is The equalizer pivot which has limited travel even more so when rig isn’t towed level. The only way is verify this is accurate weight on scales on per axle, something Escapees offers.
Balance, over loading, and alignment Contribute to unusual tire wear. I recommend checking the axle weight on each axle before concluding the towing nose high is causing the tire wear. Travel videos and see you meet viewers is nice. Thank you for sharing and have a great thanksgiving.
What a great bunch of guys at the tire shop. We have had wonderful service from Discount Tire. They were great when we had to get our trailer tires changed. I disagree that irregular tire wear is normal. I think you are correct that your lifted truck may be a contributing factor, but one thing that might decrease the irregular wear is using Centramatic Wheel Balancers. When we changed our trailer tires after 5 1/2 years, we had perfectly even wear on our Goodyear Endurance tires after more than 30k miles. I am convinced this was because of the Centramatics. We put on another set of Endurance tires because they had performed so well. Thanks for all the great Maine info!
My mom got into Good Sam’s in the 80’s or 90’s. They had a “home” park that they could go to for two weeks, leave for a week and come back for two weeks! And had big savings on the cape! It was crazy!
Another fun video. I have used Carlisle tires on all of my trailers since 2000. They have been the best trailer tire yet. I put equal tire balance beads in my trailer tires, Also use them in our Semi trucks and trailers. The beads use centrifugal force to balance, the beads will even out when the tire is spinning. The nice thing is as the tire wears they auto adjust for any changes in the tread. Using them has stopped the cupping and uneven wear in our semi trucks and trailers as long as the alignments are good. Also my boat and car trailer tires wear even now.
Yep, we agree concerning the Westlakes. We got them on our '22 GD Transcend. They made it from NY to WA, OR, North CA and then one tire started wearing fast. Had to change it out in OH when a chunk fell out, but didn't blow. (Found out a spring had flattened, GD repaired spring but didn't cover tire). However, this spring we blew one on the way to Finger Lakes Region, NY. Then we had another one blow on the way home. First blow took out the wiring for the brakes. The second blow took out the fender, skirting, brake wiring, seal and some other stuff. Sound familiar? I threw out the remaining 2 Westlakes when we got GoodYear Endurance all around. Love you guys and your content. Thanks to the Hanks!
Glad to see you have Carlisle's for the new tires. We put Carlisle's on after we had a blow out (TPMS didn't alarm until AFTER the tire blew!). The tire guys were awesome!!
There’s no way a tpms can predict a blowout just like you or I can say”that RR tire is going to blow in 5 miles”. Sounds like the tpms was working if it showed zero tire pressure.
Hi Kyle and Renee, my Mom and I were the ones who stopped you in Bar Harbor to say hi. It dawned on me later that we didn’t introduce ourselves, so I’ll do it now 😉. I’m Anne Marie Purdom and my Mom’s name is Marcie Williams, it was so fun to get to meet you both. By the way, Prince Edward Island (PEI) was amazing! If you think you are putting more weight on the rear axle you should check and see if your trailer is riding nose high. If it is you need to drop your hitch an inch or so if you can. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
If you find yourself parked on a level cement pad while hooked to the truck, measure from the ground to the frame at the front and rear of the trailer and you will find how much you need to lift the trailer to match the truck. Then find a good spring place to put shims between the springs and the axles.
This is quite the informative little video thanks Hanks. Thanks to the tire garage and all the fellows that work there that helped you with great information.
I had to laugh when you were talking with the couple in Bar Harbor who were headed to Quartzsite. I'm in Quartzsite watching the video and from Maine. Bar Harbor looked pretty quiet compared to peak Summer season. My wife and i would usually spend a week up there in October, hiking, riding the Island explorer, eating at the restaurants. I'm glad someone finally corrected you on the pronunciation of Bangor. Its bang, hard g, or.
As a mechanic since the 1980's, if you "criss cross" (17:50) or reverse the direction of any steel belted radial tire, it will cause the steel belts to cut as they reverse and cause the tread to separate. I still am at work, and never allow a reverse rotation of any steel belted radial tire. Unless they took the tires off the rims and changed the direction.
Oh my goodness! We went to this same tire shop in Aug of 2023 with our travel trailer for tire repairs. They were the greatest to work with us! Too funny!
Loved the video...and now I've seen Bar Harbor, Maine. (Checked on the Bar Harbor Inn for you, BTW, and - at least in November - they are pretty reasonable). As others have said, I really appreciate how real you are when you meet other folks who watch your channel...and those tire shop guys were pretty cool in the way that they were so friendly in their interactions with you... ...As an aside, I LOL'ed at the reader board sign at the oil change place as you were turning off the road into the tire shop (13:20 in the video) 😆
I'm not an Rv'er, but still enjoy the quality of your videos. What also makes them interesting is when you are traveling to places we've been to and enjoyed. The New England area is a part of the US we traveled to multiple times, and thanks for providing the enjoyment of going there with you.

There is an update for your keypad face, you don’t need to replace the entire unit. Our numbers cracked and the concern was about moisture getting in. Simple upgrade to replace face. Maybe 15 min.
Hey Karl and Neyney! We are new to RVing but being a small business owner and a mechanic we gets ideas... I'm thinking that after you wash your spare under the Rv, put a rv tire cover on it to prevent the salt getting in... please let me know any thoughts. My wife, my 8yr old and I love your channel. Thank you and keep em comin!
Balancing the tires are needed to allow a good even tread wear. Unbalanced tires can produce vibration up to all out shaking or even “tire hop”. A good shop will perform a digital dynamic balance, which means that the inner and outer sides of the tire will be balanced, as well as, around the diameter of the tire. The reason to rebalance tires when rotating tires is the fact that debris build up around the rim, which changes the balance of the tire. However, you can purchase and “install” glass beads inside the tire after the initial mounting and balancing, which will then maintain correct balancing while rolling down the road. So, the tires won’t need to be rebalanced; just rotated 😉
I spent a week at Hadley's Point Campground in June with a group of friends. We visited Acadia and Bar Harbor. A beautiful area. We stopped at Mount Washington on our way there and took the Cog Railroad to the top.
Two comments regarding your new tires. 1. I noticed that this company jacked your RV up using the jack under the axle. This is something everyone says is a very BAD thing as it can bend your axles. 2. The Carlisle tires have not been manufactured for over a year. They changed their name in November 2023 to Carlstar. They are great tires, 14 ply with full steel reinforcement. We love your shows. Thanks for doing them. Dennis & Maxine Henderson
Enjoyed the video. My rule for truck and rv is that if one is badly worn the others are getting close. Replace all four with the same brand and the same tread. If you buy an rv with China bombs, replace them before even leaving the sales lot. Safe travels. S
If It were my situation, I would measure the height difference ground to frame at each axle while parked on a solid level surface hooked to your truck. If for instance the difference is an 1/4” . I would add that amount as a spacer to the front axle to equalize the weight( a set of portable scales would be awesome to fine tune ) Theoretically your tandem axle equalizers should do this but it rarely does
We love Bar Harbor, we get to that area once a year. Stayed at the Bar Harbor Campground this year and loved it. We've always gone in with the truck and had no problem finding parking. Some hidden spots, but parallel parking the 3500 usually gets attention from pedestrians!
The balancing of tires will more likely save your wheel bearings because if something is shimmy in, you might not feel it in their truck, but the wheel bearings on the trailer will take the abuse
Hey Kyle, why don't you see about looking into raising the hitch pin in the pin box? This will lower the front of your trailer so it is level thus distributing the weight evenly on both axels. I would think you will continue to have issues with that rear axel and tires until you level the unit out with proper hitch height. The camper dealer should have advised you how to do this and recommend it being done. IMO Cherrio...
You talked about balancing tires. It is super important. You should think about balancing beads. Check them out. I have them on my truck and love them!!! I am putting them on the travel trailer this coming spring.

I think you will be glad you replaced your Chinese made tires! The first thing I did when I brought a new trailer was replace the tires with Goodyear Endurance trailer tires. I never ever had a problem with the Goodyear Endurance tires.
You should have installed Sailun S637 trailer tires and be done with it. Best RV tire out there in my estimation. Have run them on the last two trailers with no problems at all.
Trailer Tires are very interesting. I was told by a good friend of mine who owns a number of Tire Stores that RV tires are totally unregulated. They are often made in China and sold as a number of different popular brands, I took my brand new Continental RV tires off my 36 foot 5th wheel because I wanted the very best. My new tires ( can't remember the name) were 4X as expensive and blew out 4 months later. They were ultimately found to be cheap Chinese knock offs. RV Tires are a real crap shoot.
@@HappilyEverHanks Yes and my friend visited a large warehouse around Chicago that had thousands of trailer tires made in China. These were labeled as different brands and sold. This doesn't happen with car tires as there is strict regulation. I was so mad at myself for taking the Continental Tires off my rig and paying 4X the cost for premium tires only to find they were cheap Chinese tires. RV trailer tires cause a lot of damage when they blow. That industry needs to be cleaned up.
Good stuff. Maine is just so much fun for RVing. As for those tires....rotate, rotate, rotate. Let's face it, many trailers don't go far enough to bother, as the tires rot away before they have enough miles on them to even come close to wearing them out. But if you tow a lot like we do, or clearly like you do then a regular rotation will definitely increase your tire life. I chose every 3000 miles to do mine. Every 5000 or 8000 would be fine too. Different positions on most trailers usually wear a bit differently and this will get each tire exposed to all the different circumstances. Glad to see those guys balanced your tires too. definitely going to wear less and ride smoother if you balance them. Great content, continued safe travels....
Wow those guys are diamonds in the rough. We had a blow out in Kansas. Finally found discount tires, overcharged for sure. This was a great video today. We never clean around our spare tire. Bangor is definitely a beautiful part of Maine.
I know that you already purchased the tires. You could go to the next size up and it would pick up the camper and make it more level just a thought for next time
Hi Kyle, this might be a hot topic but most tire shops will tell you it’s not necessary to balance trailer tires, it’s a good up sell. I have pulled just about every type trailer there is from livestock to RVs with over a million miles and have never balanced trailer tires. Anyway I know some like to but I thought I would put it out there.
Usually if were not familiar with where we're going to take our motorhome into,we park the motorhome and do a trial run in our toad to make sure we don't get into some place we can't get back out of. 😊
Kyle, now that you have new tires, it would be a good time to replace your shocks on both axels. Balancing trailer tires on a heavy RV is always money well spent, so are good shocks.
@@slalomking If it doesn't have shocks from the factory, then it's a cheap made RV, my Hitch Hiker has shocks and it's a 2004 model. As heavy as his trailer is he needs shocks.
❤ watching you. I want to become a full time RVer with my wife. Anything and everything you think folks should know please tell it! The more, the merrier! It states that this was just posted 45 mins ago. Not sure
A couple years ago I researched different ways to balance tires because I have dually ford with polished aluminum rims and the lead weights would oxidize on the rims and make them look like crap. So the make balance plates for the truck along with balance beads. I went with the balance beads and have them in both trucks along with my camper now. That should solve your issue and the cost of having your tires balanced all the time. For me they work well. Good luck in your travels and Happy Thanksgiving
The guys at the tire store are amazing you need to get your axels weighed individually then you can get an air ride system such as bags to put a little air to equal the weights tires will a lot longer and take stress of of the whole trailer. How do you like the continental s now you have had them for a while?
Curious, it’s my understanding you shouldn’t cross steel belted tires with rotating, just front to back. I was told that steel belts get “set” in the direction of spin. Maybe from the centrifugal force the belts stretch in the direction of the force. Doing front to back, the wheels spin in the same direction, crossing them reverses the “set” causing the tires to fail prematurely. You could cross the old rayon and glass belted tires. I had a set of Goodyear tires on a car years ago that failed and the Goodyear tech said the belts were coming loose inside the tire. Asked how I had them rotated, and he said only front to back. When I had snow tires that I took off in the spring, Goodyear always marked them at to Rear Left or right on the tire, so they would spin the correct direction.
Must have just missed you guys up there. Please keep an eye on those Carlisle tires. Friends warned me after I had bought some for my RV several years ago. Hadn’t had them a year and one separated on me and did over $2000 of damage to my trailer. So watch out especially if the weather is hot. Love your channel

We go through Quartzite while traveling from Ca to Texas.
You should look up tire manufacturer recommended rotation methods...tires have changed a lot since the 80s bud.....
I also had worked in a dealership since the 80’s,always cross 2 of the radial tires. GM owner’s manual has showed crossing tires for years.
We have watched your Alaska videos over and over and over! Lol planning our RV trip to Alaska. Love your videos!
You will love it!
I'm not an Rv'er, but still enjoy the quality of your videos. What also makes them interesting is when you are traveling to places we've been to and enjoyed. The New England area is a part of the US we traveled to multiple times, and thanks for providing the enjoyment of going there with you.
California tire shop crews need to take some “Quality Control and Customer Service “ tips from these guys
Amazing service attitudes
I’m impressed Kyle
Nice you gave kudos to the guys in the back. If we enjoy a good meal, I always ask if I can thank the cooks. The unsung heroes that make everything run.
I’m very impressed with my Carlisle G rated tire. I always buy a rating higher than recommended on rv sticker. At least it makes me feel better.
Glad you did Hadley's Point! Be sure to get a pop-over at Jordan Pond! If you have E Bikes hit the carriage roads. (get rentals if you don't well worth it! The land Brisge is cool as well. Breakfast at two cats!
There is an update for your keypad face, you don’t need to replace the entire unit. Our numbers cracked and the concern was about moisture getting in. Simple upgrade to replace face. Maybe 15 min.
I do appreciate the dose of real life! Tires are really Important.
Yes Carlisle are good trailer tires also!!!
Yes Carlisle still makes tires...under the name carlstar....2 the rv is lifted via the RV lifts...the jack is only lifting the axel off the ground...
I would add that amount as a spacer to the front axle to equalize the weight( a set of portable scales would be awesome to fine tune ) Theoretically your tandem axle equalizers should do this but it rarely does
Agree, Camden is as far North you need go to see Maine. Unless, Acadia Nat’l Park and to drive up Cadillac Mountain is on your must do list.
We love Bar Harbor, we get to that area once a year. Stayed at the Bar Harbor Campground this year and loved it. We've always gone in with the truck and had no problem finding parking. Some hidden spots, but parallel parking the 3500 usually gets attention from pedestrians!
I just signed up on Hanging with the Hank’s and left a lengthy message about my Rv tire wear. I hope you find the information useful. Thanks
The balancing of tires will more likely save your wheel bearings because if something is shimmy in, you might not feel it in their truck, but the wheel bearings on the trailer will take the abuse
Balancing is easier on the trailer and the contents. Less vibration for the appliances and the fasteners holding everything together.
Hi Kyle and Renee! I absolutely love your content-it’s always entertaining, inspiring, and packed with useful tips. You guys do an amazing job of sharing life on the road in such a relatable way. I’ve noticed Kyle seems to be in great shape, and I was wondering-what’s your secret to staying fit while traveling? Do you have a specific routine or approach? A video on how you manage to stay healthy and active while on the road would be awesome! Keep up the amazing work-you’ve got a big fan here!
I love your guys. This videos. Keep them coming. I know you're in Maine. Stay safe and take care. Love you guys.
Cooper tires never had any trouble
.very safe and reliable. Happy trails be safe .
It’s a “rattleater” when the hot water hits the cold steel. We’ll be there the second week of June. ❤️ The Hanks Trio😎🇺🇸
I think you will be glad you replaced your Chinese made tires! The first thing I did when I brought a new trailer was replace the tires with Goodyear Endurance trailer tires. I never ever had a problem with the Goodyear Endurance tires.
Great video guys!!!!!
LOVE the interactions with the fan base!!!!!!! That is purdeee koool sharing the interactions with us!!! Keep it up!!!
👍😃🍻
Im' about to reach through the screen and ''Scarf'' on of those fries! I agree with Na Na, you got too many! LOL!
Thanks lol
You should have installed Sailun S637 trailer tires and be done with it. Best RV tire out there in my estimation. Have run them on the last two trailers with no problems at all.
Just before our last trip we replaced our original tires with Goodyear endurance, just knowing I had good tires made me so much more relaxed towing.
Well, what about a new hitch that has a lower hitch part that connects to the 5th wheel? I'm thinking a step down type hitch?
Appreciate your input, we’ve heard a lot of them aren’t reliable
@@HappilyEverHanks Yes and my friend visited a large warehouse around Chicago that had thousands of trailer tires made in China. These were labeled as different brands and sold. This doesn't happen with car tires as there is strict regulation. I was so mad at myself for taking the Continental Tires off my rig and paying 4X the cost for premium tires only to find they were cheap Chinese tires. RV trailer tires cause a lot of damage when they blow. That industry needs to be cleaned up.
That's why I buy America made Goodyear Endurance trailer tires.
@@coloradoridgerunner791 Yes. Good Choice
Tire guy Tyler ❤ Such a sweet smile.
Where ever the Hanks go a mini meet up kicks off. Love it! You guys are great!
I know that you already purchased the tires. You could go to the next size up and it would pick up the camper and make it more level just a thought for next time
That’s an interesting theory!
Tire store always tell me that too. If it goes “round & round”, mine WILL ALWAYS be balanced.
Usually if were not familiar with where we're going to take our motorhome into,we park the motorhome and do a trial run in our toad to make sure we don't get into some place we can't get back out of. 😊
Align your trailer tires by bending the axle in the middle. Some body shops can do this for you. If needed.
Our solitude came with Cooper 17.5" H tires- Rated Aluminum Wheels.
Kyle, now that you have new tires, it would be a good time to replace your shocks on both axels. Balancing trailer tires on a heavy RV is always money well spent, so are good shocks.
There are no shocks on RV axles.
We went to Boothbay Maine. Honestly, we got the idea from Travels With Delaney and Finding Our Someday.
I really like Carlisle tries my last Carlisle trail HD were great tires.
I tried everything for tires… went to Hercules 12 ply (15” tires) they are the bomb.
Ray Dee ator Renee…
The guys at the tire store are amazing you need to get your axels weighed individually then you can get an air ride system such as bags to put a little air to equal the weights tires will a lot longer and take stress of of the whole trailer. How do you like the continental s now you have had them for a while?
New tires always make us (us guys) feel good.
We run Carlisle tires also! The shop guys are freaking cool! 😎
Milestones and accomplishments for sure
Must have just missed you guys up there. Please keep an eye on those Carlisle tires. Friends warned me after I had bought some for my RV several years ago. Hadn’t had them a year and one separated on me and did over $2000 of damage to my trailer. So watch out especially if the weather is hot. Love your channel
