Everytime I think about something I need or want to know more about, Simon just uploads the video about it. Simon you obviously have a Bat signal. Thank you!
Really informative and helpful videos. Would love to see one discussing the tunings most commonly used in black metal, and maybe some examples of lower tunings used on some well known black metal albums (if any). Keep up the killer videos!
Hey Simon, it's me, that guy who always asks for more Emperor tutorials! :D Hope you're well! Any chance you will ever teach us how to play "Inno A Satana" ? Thanks! :D
Simon, will always love your videos, but very often your BM examples lean towards the more "melancholic" style. I got fascinated with other stuff over the years, like (don't know) Drastus, for example. They took out the melancholic elements and sound even "blacker". Can you review that as well?
@@SimonSmithGuitar Hi Simon, thanks for picking up my "melancholy" comment recently in your latest video. There are, of course, plenty of examples for non-melancholic Black Metal songs that just have a darker vibe (at least for me) while still being "melodic". Two of them that come to my mind: Drastus' Constrictor Torrents: ruclips.net/video/I_dGfdU0g9M/видео.html (or Sine Nihil Polum respectively: ruclips.net/video/sDgs6xFN4Ww/видео.html) and Ondskapts Akilkarsa: ruclips.net/video/1FA_-g3awTU/видео.html (or Djävulens Ande respectively: ruclips.net/video/WEH-8qPn2pQ/видео.html - maybe one of the best BM songs ever). I have got the tendency to fall into melancholic melodies and I wonder how to get rid off this "Norway in the 90ies stuff" that automatically seems to pop up every time I strum on my guitar :-(
Thank you! I enjoy watching your videos. It's a pet on the back, knowing you give tips on how to build songs. I've already been doing like this on my own for years. Trying cool riffs in different tempos, pulse. Sometimes 2 chords sets the foundation of an entire song 🤟😎🤟
Great! would you mind making a tutorial for Under a funeral moon (darkthrone) and sadomasochistic (Capathian forest)? Nice job! I love your tutorials and channel!
black metal manda super super cool lesson my brother simon I'm going to check the patterns to create melody lines Thank you so much and nice guitar Greetings from Venezuela amigo
I've learned that there's two ultimately 2 types/ sides of black metal. One side is the corpse paint wearing, raw production black metal that's just over run with shirty bands and not enough good ones. The other side is the Non corpse paint wearing bands that have extremely good production with sophisticated guitar and musicianship, such as Winterfyllith.
It depends, usually poor production creates a better atmosphere (e.g, Paysage d'Hiver) but if a band is playing more technical BM then good production makes more sense.
Killing it Bro! Just an FYI, my black metal band, Solskol, out of Florida is in the recording studio cutting our album. I'll link you later on, after the new year when we have it completed.

Hi Simon! Is there any chance that you will make a video on the ways you think black metal should progress as a genre? Love your vids, man.
